I am CRYING laughing at this delivery app that some local startup made. The app clearly AI-generates all food images. And the results are genuinely so terrible.

This is the image for a four cheese pizza. Yep. That sure is what a four cheese pizza looks like. 👍

They clearly use both the category title + description and the actual meal title + description as the prompt to generate images. Too bad this restaurant uses the restaurant name (which has the word “Koi” in it) in their categories. 🙃

Hm, too bad that the German word for french fries and the French word for apples are one and the same! I guess the category just being “Snacks” didn’t help matters. So helpful and not confusing at all!

This whole debate regarding the woman who got an abortion after learning the baby would have Down Syndrome is ignoring one crucial element: the woman. I’m seeing so much commentary on people with Down Syndrome, how they’re happy and have wonderful fulfilling lives. And that’s great! But a woman should not be forced to carry a pregnancy and give birth if she doesn’t want to. I don’t care how morally concerning her reasons are. Educating on disabilities to ensure that women are fully informed before making a decision on whether to continue a pregnancy is amazing…but it needs to be done without shaming her for choosing to abort.

Here is a position that, for some reason, really triggers some people (usually men).

It goes like this:

Women being trafficked and forced into prostitution is an atrocity and should be stopped - at this point everyone is still in agreement.

What happens to them is rape - everyone pretty much agrees with this still.

And then: If there are EXTREMELY OBVIOUS warning signs that the prostitute in question is likely a victim of trafficking*, every single john who had sex with her anyway should be prosecuted for rape.

So many people froth at the mouth at the mere suggestion. They get furious if you suggest that this should be the law. But I think nothing could be more reasonable. Trafficking and forced prostitution flourishes because "normal" johns do not care if the prostitute they are paying is there voluntarily. They do not have to care (unless, maybe, if she is underage). Nothing will happen to him.

I say: Make johns deathly afraid of a prostitute possibly being trafficked. I want it to ruin lives to rape a woman who is clearly being forced to prostitute herself.

But no, apparently that's a horrible and hateful stance to have.

One thing that's overlooked is that there is no way to revoke consent.

There are going to always be women who choose to go into porn. When I say that, I mean women who have an idealised version of what it is and have tricked themselves into either believing that it's empowering or that it's a neutral, sex-positive thing. Before filming, this woman would give consent. Whatever happens in that space, she might be able to excuse it and get through it. She might defend it all for a while, even. Let's even imagine that she has the best experience that any woman could ever possibly have in porn.

What about when this hypothetical woman, who has only genuinely positive experiences within porn, decides that actually, as she gets older, she doesn't want to have video of her naked body being used all over the internet, for a variety of reasons?

She can't revoke consent. She signed off once, and that means that that woman is then later traumatised because there is nothing that she can do to stop men masturbating to pictures and videos that were once fully consensual. A truly consenting woman at one point, who (only hypothetically, unfortunately) has never been raped, never been coerced, never been drugged up, then still ends up being severely traumatised.

Women watching porn doesn't change that. Men in porn doesn't change that (but men can focus on themselves). Amateur porn in particular doesn't change that, because what about the couple who fall out of love, or who otherwise want to take that porn down in the future - but there will have already been countless men downloading it and then reuploading it for themselves to keep it out there forever, which goes right back to the traumatising of it.

So much defence of porn is "but that's their choice," so sometimes it's useful to remind porn-defenders that as soon as someone is involved with porn, their most-often coerced "choice" is immediately ripped away from them.

are you sure no one in that video is underage?

if yes, are you sure no one is under the influence of substances and therefore cannot consent?

if yes, are you sure no one is being raped, considering how being raped does not always mean them screaming in pain or trying to get away, although often, the person being penetrated is tied up and even gagged, so:

if yes, COULD they escape if they wanted to?

if yes, is it impossible for someone to be behind the camera, pointing a gun/weapon at the person/people having sex?

if yes, is it impossible for there to be a pimp somewhere behind the scenes, who gets all the money?

if yes, are you sure the people in the video know they are being filmed? every single person?

if yes, are you sure the video has not been leaked by one of the people involved, or by someone else?

if yes, are you sure the video is watchable by you because the people in the video are STILL TO THIS DAY comfortable with you seeing it?

you might be able to rule out some of these, but never all of them. and that is the problem.

now if you think you have managed to rule out every other part but the last one and it does not particularly bother you, let me ask you one final question:

9. are you comfortable orgasming to a video that might have been uploaded with the consent of the woman that was in it, but which caused so much trauma to that particular woman that she took her own life?

there are hundreds, if not thousands of women who killed themselves because of this type of trauma.

it does not matter if you are a woman yourself. if you have an ounce of empathy and compassion for your fellow human beings, you do not watch porn.

Now that may be the true story. But foetal remains in the yard of a female medical professional in a country where the laws surrounding abortion are “dangerous and draconian”? She would have every reason to lie.

Many details are unclear. And I may be wrong. But for now, I will be going with the assumption that she was illegally (and if so, heroically) performing abortions and is, even at this moment, protecting the women she saved.
