Yes but OP was referring to Private ownership. The majority of home guard weaponry was to be supplied by the government.

Did they? I was under the assumption that the longbows were privately owned and practiced with; then the men were levied? Because they used to have like village shooting competitions for holidays and stuff?

I mean I guess you could say peasants didn’t even really own the clothes on their backs did they?
