It was only right to invite him to sit. He’d been so sweet to her and the nice messages he’d been sending her way were really doing a good job at keeping her morale high during finals prep. Unless it was something he did for all the girls that come into the little coffee shop, but she had a sneaking suspicion that it was a special thing he did for her, and that made a slight blush rise to her cheeks even as he stood there in front of her.
There was a grin spreading across her face when he accepted her offer so quickly, and it only slightly faded by the time he backpedaled a bit. But Natasha nodded, the smile brightening right back up.
’I’ll be here for a while, I’m sure,’ she said while waving a hand over the books spread out on the table in front of her and with a quiet groan to punctuate the work she had ahead of her. ‘A little bit is perfectly fine.’
And one more big grin was directed at him before she took another sip from her coffee, made another sound in the back of her throat as though this was the most amazing thing she’d ever tasted, and turned back to the screen of her laptop.
Clint blushed and bowed out hastily, still beaming at her, and resumed her place behind the counter. It really was a slow day-- there were a few patrons that stuck around to work or study, like Natasha did, but for the most part, it looked like finals season meant most people were cooped up in the library or somewhere else. Even the other regulars he knew weren't stopping by.
He usually stood at the counter, but today, he pulled up the stool and sat down, elbows on the wood next to the register, chin in hands, and darted glances over to where the redhead sat. Was her hair naturally that red? he wondered idly. Was it as soft as it looked? What was she studying? Would she get along with someone like me, who hasn't even gotten a college education? Will she think I'm stupid?
He shook off that pattern of thought and checked the time. His shift was almost over, and he tried to convince himself that the knot in his throat wasn't because he was anxious to talk to the girl he liked. After all, he'd managed it before.
Finally his replacement walked in and he dashed to the back to change before coming back to slide into the seat across from Natasha.
"Um, hi again. Up for that break now?"
