THINGS TO DO DURING QUARANTINE
There are many things I learned during the first quarantine of 2020. I must admit I was feeling super depressed and let myself pick up unhealthy habits. When the world and daily structure is suddenly taken away from you it disrupts the natural energy and groove you were in before. I just moved to a different state two weeks before the world went on lockdown, I didn’t know a single soul and was far far away from family or socialization. I felt completely alone and craved the daily activities that kept me sane. I know i’m not the only one whose experienced these feelings so here are some things that have helped and are helping me get through this difficult time.
Meditation:
Meditation has a way of making you feel grounded and the time you allow yourself to meditate can do wonders. It should be the first or last thing you do before you wake up or go to bed. Dedicate at least 5-10 minutes to find a quiet place to close your eyes, put on some relaxing music, and set your intention for the day. “Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strength”
Exercise at home:
Being stuck inside can lead to unhealthy habits such as bingeing TV shows, eating junk food and not getting up and moving around (Trust me, i’ve done it). Going to the gym was my therapy and helped me clear my mind of clutter and stress, the gyms may be closed but we can get creative and use random equipment around the house. I will include a fun/easy/quick workout routine on my next post. 15-20 minutes a day can improve your overall health and increase endorphins in your body which triggers positive feelings.
Learn a new skill:
Being stuck at home gave me time to pick up new skills, a resource I highly recommend is Skill Share and Lynda Learning (this is not sponsored, if you are in school you can access these sites for free or just try the free trial). These sites contain videos from instructors from all around the world with knowledge on all topics. I used my time to learn how to play the guitar as well as learn how to use Adobe products which helped me create that image above! If I can thank quarantine for anything it would be for the time I got to learn new skills.
Call your loved ones:
This might be the most important advice of them all, I couldn’t have gone through this lockdown without the support of my friends and family, a simple phone call or message can go a long way when going through a mandated isolation period and I recommend to talk to someone. This also brings me to why I started this blog. This is a safe space to come and have a community who are willing to support each other through this hard time.
