“Dayami”

Purple Chickens

  This is my first track review, so go easy on me. ;)

  I was lucky enough to trade in my group’s album for a copy of Haláng by the Purple Chickens during our fun Radio Republic gig in 19 east a couple months ago. I was also very lucky to get to see them live for the first time. Excuse me for the late memo, but I live under a rock most of the time.

  I press play and close my eyes. “Dayami” is the perfect first track because as I listen, I visualize myself entering a tunnel flooded with komorebi (light that filters through tree leaves). The thick atmosphere of sound is ethereal and beautiful. When the words start to come in to play with the sound, it all just blends together perfectly.  The lyrics are about things in the past that come back from the grave to haunt you, musically it feels like a dream sequence. Maybe they were trying to give us the feeling that these things from the past are no longer real and no longer reside in the present- just like a ghost of an idea.

  I hope you go out to see them live and get a copy of their album “Haláng” J It’s a wonderful piece of art that should be heard and appreciated for it’s many details.

So....

So i decided to make a blog.

I've been wanting to do this since college but I never really had the balls to start. Writing for me is a frustration. I always found writing enjoyable, but I was afraid of being vulnerable on the internet. Yes, writing is vulnerable, it's like putting your thoughts on display for everyone and anyone to see. If there was an x-ray machine for the non-physical things going on in your brain, it would be a keyboard, wild fingers, and a sense of silly reckless abandon (aka intoxication). Thing is, I grew up and honestly, I don't care anymore. *teehee*

So this blog is going to be about music. Music that I think is wonderful. Music that I would like to share with the universe coupled with short random ramblings about why it speaks to me. Also why these sound waves penetrate past my shallow eardrums. It could be an indie band, it could be a pop song, a viral video, an old song interpreted in a new way- it could be anything. I'm going to feel my way through this experience and I have no intention of any negativity. This is a genuine-wholehearted way for me to share music and show you the awesome things that come my way.

EP REVIEW: CUT_

When I was in the Netherlands a few months ago, I went to a local music festival in Haarlem that was free for all. Many artists performed, but only one group stuck out like a glow-in-the-dark star in a pile of glitter in the dark, they were called CUT_ (Cut Underscore). Their sound was fresh. So fresh that my immobile body suddenly started to move to these sounds.
