Just downloaded Tumblr for the first time! ✨ I’m gonna use this as a place to write random stuff, whether it’s a rant, an update on my life, or just whatever pops into my head! (｡•́‿•̀｡)💭

Getting back into Tumblr. I feel like I didn’t give it much of a chance the first time

June isn't just Pride Month.

It's also Men's Mental Health Awareness Month and that's something that should be talked about more. Social media and society often pushes hate onto men as a whole and it's honestly disgusting and I've seen from the people close to me irl and online that this affects them a lot.

A lot of the men in my life don't really talk about their feelings too much or at least don't say why they feel a certain way. There's stereotypes that men have to bottle up their emotions to be 'tough', which is so outdated and stupid. NO ONE has to feel like their emotions and struggles don't matter, they always matter. Holding it all in doesn't define strength, strength is in being able to show your feelings.

Pride Month often overshadows this and it's very upsetting. Not saying that's anyone's fault I'm just saying this should also be observed. We also just need to stop hating on men a whole, just because some men in your life may suck doesn't mean all men need to fuck off. I see hate towards men the MOST on social media, more than any other sort of discrimination (just my own social media experience but I know there's a ton of hate as a whole).

Let's look at some tags I found on Tumblr while putting tags in on this post.

Like I was DONE writing before the tags but I found these and put them just to prove my point. Fucking stupid. Can we just stop hating on people, this is part of the reason why they struggle so much.

Obviously I'm not a man so I can't fully speak on their behalf. But IF you're a man, know that you're not weak for your emotions. You are not weak for struggling. Your struggles are valid too. You are not inferior. You're human. And you're great. Please talk about your problems and feelings, it makes you strong. Your mental health matters, just like anyone else's.

There are way too many parents out there that stay together ‘for the kids’ but most of the time, the kids are praying for them to get divorced. 😭

I don’t think my life would have been that different if my parents got divorced but no, my mum had to make a ‘sacrifice’.

Please just leaveeee. I’m begging you!! Go and enjoy your life.

My brother has arrived,

And with him has come sickness,

Of course I feel sorry for him but it’s time like this that makes me mad. While at boarding school, my brother decided to drank more juice than water and unsurprisingly his kidneys couldn’t cope. He always makes these stupid decisions and then he gets sick.

He needs to prioritize his health.

I’m angry because I care. But still - it’s annoying.

More family events are scheduled for the week. Meeting family, eating out and movie nights. It feels like we’re close. But outside of these activities we live our own lives. My brother doesn’t talk to me unless he has nothing else to do; and while my mother tries, her insistence on African values means that I don’t feel like I can confide in her.

We ended up watching Power Moves with Shaquille O’Neal so the ‘movie night’ turned out to be a ‘watching a series together night’. I’m not gonna complain though. The series was interesting enough and although I don’t have even the slightest interest in basketball, it was nice seeing people striving for their dreams.

Would definitely do this again.

But next time with a tear jerking movie since those are more my style.

We’re watching a movie together.

From an outsider’s perspective it would seem like we’re close, but we aren’t. That’s partially my mum’s fault and partially mine. It’s something common among African parents and it kinda sucks. I’ve tried to ask more questions so that I can get to know her more but why do I have to do all the work?

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt because I want to be close to my family. I just wish I didn’t have to do all the heavy-lifting

The original cast of Hamilton is coming backkkk! I wanna be in the room where it happens but unfortunately I’m an ocean away 😞

I guess I’ll have to be happy with the London production…

It sucks when you want to help someone but there’s nothing you can do. I just want things to be like before. I want him to be happy. I hate how complicated life is now. Before was so good… I should have cherished that.

What am I supposed to do here?

I’m back home after my disasterous exam. My parents don’t know what happened and I don’t plan on telling them. This is something I plan to take to the grave. I don’t even want to imagine their disappointment if they found out.

I wake up every morning and I occupy myself until it’s time to sleep but I don’t do anything meaningful. I know that it’s the break and I’m supposed to enjoy it but I feel like I’m wasting my days.

My boredom has grown to such an extent that I’ve decided to write an essay as part of a personal project. A mini dissertation to speak. I told my parents hoping to hear even a hint of surprise. Surprise that I care about my studies and that I can be passionate about something.

Of course that doesn’t happen.

But that’s okay.

Everything is okay.

I’ll be fine, right?
