Dear Inadvertent Art Thieves...

Hey folks, your local artist with a slight internet presence here (i.e I get my art reposted without credit pretty often). Just wanted to share one gal’s opinion on reposting/posting without credit.

Now, I know in today’s hectic world, sometime it’s hard to find an art piece’s source. It’s not hard to imagine finding an awesome picture on Instagram and going “Oh shit, I gotta share this with my followers like yesterday” without even thinking the image might have been cropped, or even changed hands and reposted multiple times before. And what if you’re on mobile? Or if you speak a different language from the original artist and literally don’t know which bit is the name? 

I’m just saying, I get that it’s easier to just post out of enthusiasm than go searching through tineye.com for an original source every time you see uncredited cool art, and that’s fine. I know I don’t speak for all artists, but I, for one am okay with reposts and a simple “Someone please tell me who drew this so I can give proper credit” in the comments. It’s not ideal, but as long as your intentions are good and you’re willing to take it down, or redirect the viewer traffic, or look for the artist when you have some free time, or give proper credit at the artist’s request, it’s a tiny and totally forgivable crime =] 

Now, for those people who take the art on purpose to sell or claim artistic credit, dishonor. Dishonor on you. Dishonor on your cow.
