What to do if you have a binding injury
1. Take the binder off. I donāt care how dysphoric you are, I donāt care how bad you feel, I donāt care who is around. DO NOT PUT IT BACK ON.Ā
2. Go to the doctor. Or to a nurse. When I broke my ribs, I went to the nurse at my school because that was free and that worked fine.
3. Accept that there isnāt anything you can do to heal faster. The most likely thing that doc is going to tell you is that you have some bruised ribs, and you need to let them heal. Sometimes broken ribs can break lungs, which is potentially fatal, so no matter what, you still need to do step two, but thatās probably not going to be the case.Ā
4. Treat yoāself. Get some icecream, and settle down with your favorite tv show. This is gonna be rough on your mental health.Ā
5. Tell peopleĀ that you are injured (make up a bull-riding/bungee-jumping story if you donāt wanna tell em why). This will garner you some sympathy points, and people will go easier on you. Maybe your boss will let you wear a hoodie to work.
6. Donāt reflect too hard on it. The first thing you are going to think is notĀ āoh I have an injury so I better take care of myselfā itās going to beĀ āthis is the physical manifestation of my dysphoria and why does being trans always ruin my lifeā. Try to refrain from that particular thought. You have an injury. Treat it like any other injury or illness you could get.Ā

I choose me. Itās okay to put myself first when I need to.
I am more than any one part of myself. My appearance, my past, my mistakes ā none of that defines me. Only I do.
It is not weakness to show vulnerability; it is strength.
Itās okay to not be okay. Furthermore, if Iām not okay now, I will be eventually.
Whether Iām not sure of the answers to my homework, what to do, or who I am, itās alright to not know. Iām still learning and Iām doing just fine.
Making mistakes is a part of the learning process. I donāt have to beĀ afraid of making them or of admitting when I do.

Remind yourself that you will have exhausting hours, days and weeks. There will be times when your soul seems nothing but tired and your mind tries to pull you back into the darkness you have fought so diligently to be free of. It is normal, and it is okay. Being genuinely happy and at peace does not mean being in a consistent state of elation. Donāt beat yourself up because you donāt wake up with a radiating smile every single day. Understand that being vulnerable to negative emotions is a part of being human, and it in no way makes you weak or pathetic. Continue to be patient and kind with yourself, continue to fight through those draining moments and do not allow them to persist longer than they should. You are in complete control, sadness is simply a visitor within your mental space, not a permanent resident. Chat with it, understand it, master it, and most importantly, know when to say goodbye. You will wake up the next morning and you will brew your coffee, and it will still be wonderful.
