"Just watch the poor Remus bit around poor Remus," He said without any malice. "It bothers him when people feel sorry for him. I dunno what you do or don’t know about that, but…When you poor Remus him all he wants to do is go to class and not rest when he really should be resting."
He smiled at her and nodded, “See. Not so painful to say yes,” He chuckled. “I promise I’ll keep a leash on James. I know he can be a bit…over the top in your presence, but I promise he’s a good bloke under it all or I wouldn’t be trying so hard to get him a date.”
"Various members of my family would probably curse me for saying it, but purebloods have far more squibs these days than muggleborns and half bloods. My mum and dad are cousins. I’m lucky I wasn’t born with an extra head let along a squib," He smirked. Lily had been at Hogwarts a long time, but he didn’t know if she really knew much of the inner workings of pureblood families.
"Oh, he knows that I just use the 'poor Remus and 'poor Lily' as an excuse to stuff us with chocolate," Lily snorted, thinking of how strong Remus actually was. "Have you ever tried to 'poor Remus' him right after baking, when offering him a slice of chocolate pie? I'd pretend to be dying to have one," she added shamelessly, food being the thing that had pushed them to bond during their patrols.
"I know he is... Insufferable at times, but good. And don't tell me it's not true, I know you get exasperated too when he's too hyper." Well, she didn't know but she suspected it. "He's trying really hard to do a good job as Headboy, isn't he?"
Now, she had no idea that Purebloods were in that kind of troubles, though it partly explained their fixation with blood purity. "I... was told about Purebloods and Halfbloods and Muggleborns by... someone who probably wasn't... very reliable, so there is still a lot of stuff that I don't know... Including things that I know they should be obvious, so I can't even ask my roommates..." she was looking down at her lap, obviously not liking being in the dark. "Hey... about that... Do you... Did you ever see some sort of animal pull the carriages that bring us to Hogwarts from the Hogsmeade station?" She knew the other girls hadn't seen anything, but it was since the previous Christmas that Lily was worried about hallucinating black creatures.
