tfw you hear some information about a person that completely validates your private dislike of them
as someone who constantly gets stuck in ruminative cycles, figuring out a way to stop the cycle before it gets out of hand has been incredibly formative for me. if you find yourself ruminating or unable to stop the cycling, here’s a place to start.
am i learning, processing, or ruminating? it’s important to be able to distinguish between the three. learning is when you receive new information that updates your frame of understanding. processing is when you study a situation to help yourself understand it. ruminating is when you cycle over the same thought repeatedly, often causing distress. learning and processing are productive, while rumination is destructive.
which theme is this? understanding the root of the spiral has helped me to untangle why the rumination feels so intense and scary. (example: i’ve been ruminating on one specific interaction with someone where i think they might’ve misinterpreted what i meant. this is my theme of fear around being misunderstood.)
how do i respond? (example: okay, this is that theme of being misunderstood. but it is not my job to make myself perfectly understood. the people i have around me can ask clarifying questions if they’re confused, and they are willing to meet me in the middle because they want to understand.)
don’t feed the raccoons tuna. (this is an example from my therapist that i love! essentially, don’t feed the beast or it will keep coming back. distract yourself, journal, listen to music, etc.)

I miss American big drinks. a large iced coffee could save me right now.

sorry for the nervous breakdown everyone im actuallt fine because i have to be
Thinking about how when you get to the title drop in Rebecca Solnit's Hope in the Dark, you realize she's referring to "the dark" in the sense of less showy, slow moving acts that build in the background to make bigger changes possible and changes you literally can't see because you can't know what the world without you making those efforts looks like rather than "the dark" referring to, like, terror. That it's about putting your hope in the "dark" (as in unseen/uncelebrated) processes and keeping going even when it doesn't look like it's doing anything, because it often is and you just aren't equipped to see the full effects.
Everyone I've heard talk about this book tends to frame it as more of the how not to lose hope when things look bleak book (which to be fair it kind of is), but not as many talk about how the main push is how important it is to keep doing the right thing even when it looks like it's not doing anything because it actually is, even if you don't know exactly what it's doing at the time.
(The comparison made in the text is to the mycelium of a fungus as opposed to the mushroom/fruiting body. Which is something I low key love; the part doing most of the work is the part you can't see and without which you can't pull off the big mushrooms that everyone thinks of when you talk about fungi.)

"A sign installed in the largest wildfire burn I’ve ever seen, along the BC/YK border. Borrowing the aesthetics of BC Recreation Site signs, once again pointing to the overlaps of outdoor recreation, resource extraction, and the consequences of the climate crisis. Most recreation sites in BC exist along previously built logging and mining roads.
“Forced into a great and difficult transformation” was a line I heard in a lecture on Buddhist philosophy I was listening to on my drive up north. But it became another mantra I thought about while living in a place that’s been utterly transformed by resource extraction over the past century, and as I thought about the burnt landscapes I drove through."

having one of those days where i'm ready to go home now 👍
i think i'm doing better now. i was fully crashing out for about two days straight and had to take a morning off classes about it, but i think a pep talk from our academic coordinator may have fixed me
i guess i get one (1) free breakdown per month. hoping this day off helps, in addition to my host mom giving me some very Moroccan comfort and advice in response to my crying last night and Janine De Luca describing Runner Five as "undaunted by the tasks that lie ahead of us" during my run this morning.
thoughts on zr! back from the dead, episode 2:
after i finish Back from the Dead, i should
jump immediately into the next s10 episode
restart from s9 to refresh my memory
start from s8 to refungus my memory
restart from s7, what even happened that season?
start from s1e1, clearly i don't remember enough to fully enjoy current content
helpful details: it looks like it's been at least four years since i last ran a new zr! mission, and at my current rate i'd be doing a maximum of two episodes per week
is Season of the Hunter any good? i'd almost certainly prioritize catching up to the current ZR! season before starting another side quest, but like... what is it?
