Goodbye

As this is getting published, I´m on my way home to Norway. It´s going to be a long travel day from 10 am in Nottingham to about 10 pm until I get to Oslo. Overall taking a semester to study abroad has been a great experience and I will always cherish the memories I´ve made here. If you´re thinking about taking a semester or year abroad I would strongly suggest it.

Summer vacation!

Sometimes I just need to go out and run. Today was a day like that. Been up since 5am, so I started studying in the early morning hours. I made myself two cups of tea and enjoyed the quiet early morning,´cause one cup of tea is not enough 😉

After a good amount of studying, I went to the grocery store to get some breakfast and kombucha. Then I watched some Netflix. More studying and then I just had to get out and moving. My hayfever (pollen allergy) is really bad these days… so running outside was really hard today. Pushing through though, it feels really good afterwards as always.

Now I´m ready for the last session of Latin Dance class. Running out the door again, literary.

My father was coming to London for a business trip. So I went down to meet up with him and to spend some time with him when he was not in meetings etc.

The first day we walked around quite a lot to do some sightseeing and ate lots of good food.

On Thursday, day two, he was going to meetings and working. Therefore I decided to do a little studying before heading out for adventures. I walked from the hotel in Westminster, through two parks and to Nottinghill. For lunch, I went to a restaurant that my Mother told me about: Farmacy. Such a lovely place and good food. It´s a vegan restaurant with glutenfree recipes – which meant that I could pretty much pick from all over the menu.

Friday, meaning today, it´s time for both of us to go home – him to Norway and I back to Nottingham. I´ve the whole day in London since my train back doesn´t leave until 8pm. I´ve walked around quite a lot, had a quick peek inside The National Gallery, walked some more and bought a new foundation. I´m not really feeling the shopping, so I just walked and walked, and dragged my suitcase everywhere haha.

Sunday Funday! Oh how beautiful you are these days Nottingham! The sun is shining and summer is here. I was supposed to go on a bike ride today, but that is rescheduled for tomorrow.

I´m done with two of my exams and I´m treating myself by doing whatever I want to for the weekend to take some time off. Which to me means adventure time! Work hard, play hard as they say.

I went for a looooong walk today after I had written my job article. A lot of walking, some sprinting, stair runs, stair jumps and yoga in the park. Very needed, and after I´ve gotten those endorphins and the beautiful view of nature I feel so much better.

I walked far from the city center before I started to walk towards the Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park. I must say I regretted not bringing my bank card or any money so I could buy water on the way. When I got back home, there was only one thing on my mind – water! Haha 🙂

Even though I´m in England, and there was no big celebration, I decided to do a little something something. So I invited some friends to come over for a champagne breakfast. It was so nice of people to join!

I bought champagne but didn´t really feel like drinking it so saving it for another occasion.

The rest of the day was spent walking outside with a friend and then just relaxing. Taking a few days of studying before it´s back to the books. And yes I did walk around all day with a Norwegian flag on my forehead, haha.

Today I went to the vegan festival here in Nottingham with my friend Anna. She is vegetarian and it was really nice to go togheter. The fair was really good and it was actually a lot more to see than I thought it would be. Found some more Kombucha (all about that buch 😉 ), vegan chocolate and had a decent vegan, gluten-free cupcake (for breakfast, haha). For those who don´t know what Kombucha is, it´s a fermented tea with a live culture. Which means it´s very good for your gut-health. In fact, I actually made it myself back home in Norway for a period but had to throw away my scooby (which is what makes the bacteria culture) when I left for my time abroad.

I also bought a pack of some superfood which is like a shake and it tastes absolutely amazing.

Exams stress me out, so I´ve been struggling with a bad migraine today and I keep losing so much hair… Stress ain’t good… Even though I try to stress down and give my body the right nutrtion. Oh well, they´re soon enough done. At least I got to wear my summer dress today. Funny enough, as I´m writing this the rain is pouring down outside my window.

Today have been an amazing adventure into the world of Harry Potter (despite a tired me after only 4 hours of sleep, ooops). Both on the bus ride to and back they put on Harry Potter movies – No better way to get in the “mood” and setting for some magic.

First, we visited the Alnwick castle, where I got to check off another thing on my bucket list: shot with a bow and arrow!! So much fun! I got 63 points out of 80 so not too bad being my first time.

I´ve gotten older and wiser, but that much hasn´t changed. I still climb in trees like I did when I was a child. Upside down and all around.

Then the journey continued to Durham city. We had a quick stop on the way to check out the Angle of the North sculpture. In Durham, we got to know the city through a guided tour, where we saw another scene from Harry Potter in the Cathedral. Can you remember it from looking at the photos below?

Lots of photos, smiles and memories made. I haven’t read the Harry Potter books yet, only seen the movies. Since there is so much to read for school during the year, I normally read fiction literature only in the summer. When I then first read fiction, I read until I’m “bored” of it or have satisfied my need. That can be all from 8 to 11 books. Therefore I have planned to read throw the Harry Potter series this summer 😄

That’s “all” for now – until the next adventure! Exams are coming up, so even though I’ve started revising for my exams, there is still a lot to do. I always make a revision plan and stick to it. Meaning not as many adventures for the next three weeks, more study-time until my exams are done – or at least until I’m done with two of them. Then a short adventure to London might be in plan. Before it’s back to the books. Last exam and a week of adventures before I’m moving back to Norway.

Geeking out a bit here

I´m a person with many hobbies, always have been – always will be. If you asked me to list all my hobbies (which I´ve actually done for my own amusement), it would take a while and you would be quite shocked. However, that being said I have some hobbies I do on a regular basis (such as working out at the gym, yoga, running outside) and I have a lot I do from time to time.

From my Instagram post, where I first told about my new hobby with coding and that you should educate yourself. University is a good start, but don´t limit yourself.

Hobby is defined as (noun, plural hobbies): 1. an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation.

Anyways, my recent hobby is learning code. There are many languages out there, so I chose something completely new. I already know some HTML and CSS from my earliest blogging days when I wanted to customize my blog design. Now I´m learning JavaScript and Python. I tried Python first but didn´t really get the hang of it. However, after I´ve worked with JavaScript over at KhanAcademy, I tried Python once again since I found another amazing website for learning the language (Codeacademy). I´m probably going to do them simultaneously, working on whatever I feel like and I think is fun. Becoming a programmer and mastering coding is probably going to take years, but I have to start somewhere.

So now you may wonder, why on earth would I even bother? (‘Cause that is what everyone keeps asking me). Well, I like to know how things work. I watch A LOT of documentaries, and I´m always searching up on Google how things work or if I don´t know something. I ask questions, I wonder why things are the way they are. How computers, the internet, games, applications and robots work is no exception. Furthermore, even though this isn´t my study field, I believe I´m going to make use of it somehow. Educating yourself will get you far, at least if you have some motivation and dedication in you. So I´m going to have some fun with my new hobby, and hopefully, I´ll get use for it one day. I´m turning into such a nerd *laughs* – not a bad thing though.

If you want to “wake up” and learn, just search up whatever your passions and interests are – or something you know “nothing” about. Google it. Search it up on Youtube. Find documentaries on Netflix, Youtube, Amazon ++

Remember to read from different sources and see different sides of the same topic. Reflect, think critically – there is always a side. Who has made the documentary? Who has invested in the making of that documentary?

I´m back in Nottingham, and today has been so beautiful with the sun out. My friend was going to Newstead Abbey and asked if I wanted to join, so of course, I said yes and went. The three of us had so much fun! It was the perfect day to go there, and we got so many good photos. I love to meet people that push me out of my comfort zone, and she definitely does with all those photos and “modelling”! But it was a lot of fun having a photo shoot, as well as making a lot of videos.

First of all, I need to say that this is something I have wanted to do for years! The only problem is that I´ve had injury after injury, so running a marathon was long from even possible for my body (even if my mind was ready). Just last year I sprained my ankle 4 times… like how is that even possible? So the last couple of months I´ve really worked on my ankle and running – but only running far now and then, and giving my body plenty of time to recover. The longest I´ve run before today was 29km (which was a few years back) so increasing it by 13 km is a huge victory. Bucket list check off: Running a marathon 42,125km (I ran 42,24km).

I know that the time is pretty high/bad, but it was never about the time so it´s okay. As well as running a good amount of distance on the beach (sand), which I find a lot harder.

I did walk here and there, and the last 20K I ran a bit slower as I could feel my legs getting tired. Focusing on my steps, even though I ran with my ankle supporter. Running outside is pretty “easy” for me if I don´t account for me having to use my inhaler for a run like this (I have exercise-induced asthma) and all the side-effects of that one. What I mean by easy is that time goes by, and you can watch all the things around and not focus too much on the running part. Enjoying myself with the view and music 😉

However, when running a longer distance as this there are certain things to prepare yourself for:

From my 29km I already knew I was going for only leggings without any underwear. Why? Because underwear made huge blisters/wounds the last time. I did get some this time as well, but nothing near as bad as last time. Furthermore, have a comfortable sports-bra and top/t-shirt/sweater.

Then the second thing is to remember to drink/eat during your run. I went to a store to buy a sports drink with sugar 3 times during my run to get in electrolytes, calories and liquid. I don´t like to eat while running, ´cause it just upsets my stomach, but I still need something so I won´t hit that “wall”.

Lastly, the last part is going to hurt. I think when I only had 15km left my legs started to hurt, but the next 6km wasn´t so bad. The last 8km on sand was a different story… And the last 1km was pure mental will. However, my legs don´t feel too bad at the moment.

There is never going to be a perfect time, so just do it! However, I have accounted for that I now have three days to just relax and do nothing.
