What is more interesting in a TV show?

A flawed character slowly becoming better due to the magic of ‘Character Development’?

A totally ‘perfect’ character who doesn’t need improvement joining halfway through the show’s run to steal her thunder?

…………….

A traumatized character with a sad past overcoming her scars gradually to become a true hero?

A slightly ‘depressed’ character who has all of her issues solved in her first episode when everyone loves her, then is gift-wrapped the superhero role in her next?

……………..

A sassy blonde who is bitchy to virtually everyone but one day could use that skill to help her new friends after improvement?

A ‘very sweet’ girl who is nice to virtually everyone… just like almost every other female student?

……………………

What I’m trying to get at here is: Zoe is a misnomer. She is not needed. There are already plenty of characters like her. Chloe had more than enough uniqueness about her personality and backstory to make a fascinating Anti-Hero to join the Miraculous Squad, but the writers (or mainly Thomas Astruc) weren’t interested.

Apparently, they’d rather have someone parachute into the show who’s already blandly ‘perfect’ to take her place, without having to deal with any of that boring stuff like ‘development’ or ‘character arcs’.

And to REALLY drive their point home, they made her Chloe’s sister. With a rhyming name. And a very similar color scheme. Yes, we get the point, dears.

People might prefer Zoe because she’s ‘nicer’, like I probably would if I met her and Chloe in real life. But ask yourself… in the context of a TV show, which would be the most interesting and dynamic person?

The girl with demons to conquer, room to change and grow, one with an unexplored childhood history? Or the girl who smiles at everyone, never does anything bad and… that’s about it?

If Zoe does ‘help’ Chloe become ‘better’ in some half-assed redemption late in S7 or something, that’ll be the ultimate insult. a) it’ll be too late by then. b) stop trying to glamorize this utterly unnecessary character and c) I want Chloe to learn these lessons for herself, not be taught them by a glorified Mary Sue.

Lastly, some people think that Chloe can improve without ‘needing to be a hero’. Well, yeah… but it wouldn’t be half as much fun, would it? Ask yourself; which sounds better: Zoe turning up as Vesperia and doing a boringly competent job, or Chloe being there to preen and pose and show-off every chance she gets, while proving what an asset she is to the Squad?

People don’t want flawless heroes. Even Superman has his Kryptonite. And by replacing Chloe with Zoe, they’re ruining what could’ve been some of the best chemistry and repartee in the show.

But, hey! What do they care? As long as the writers get paid on time and do a passable job, who gives a darn if the show never fulfils any of the rich potential it possesses?

Well… I care.

And I’ll never shake this feeling of ‘what could’ve been’ if things continue as they are now… :(

Two Times Adrien Followed Gabriel's Commands and One Time He Didn't

In "Feast", he puts his ring hand on Adrien's shoulder and tells him stop worrying about Nathalie, and he immediately gets up and goes to his room:

This line from "Wishmaker" had me thinking...

Adrien doesn't have any hobbies! Not a single memory of a childhood dream! Marinette suggests he might have wanted to be a magician, which is ironic considering Felix practices sleight-of-hand.

And that makes me want to reevaluate this dialogue:
