Free HIV testing at Freddie's Beach Bar

Tonight is the night at Freddie's Beach Bar, 555 23rd St South, Arlington, VA.  Come out between 9pm-12am for free, confidential HIV rapid testing!  There will also be a drag show!

Announcing a free screening of the film Translatina, brought to you by NOVAM, MPoderate, and Identity.  The documentary details the lives of transgendered people in Central and South America, and the many struggles and hardships they undergo in order to realize and express their gender-identity, including police abuse, lack of access to education and healthcare, and sex work.  Following the screening of the film, there will be a discussion panel and refreshments.  Free, confidential HIV testing will also be offered.  This Saturday, 2/26/2011, from 3:30-6:30 at 7978-B New Hampshire Ave., Hyattsville, MD 20783.  For more information, call 240-813-5589, or 703-231-0703.

Tonight is the night at Inova Juniper!

NOVAM's very own Bryan Collins will be conducting free, confidential HIV rapid testing tonight (!!) at the Inova Juniper Project (5015 Lee Highway, Suite 102, Arlington, VA) from 5pm-7pm!  If you think you have been exposed to HIV by having unprotected sex, or by using intravenous drugs, then come on down and get your free HIV test!

Do you live in Arlington, and need to be tested?  You're in luck, because on Wednesday, 2/23, NOVAM will provide free, confidential HIV rapid testing at INOVA Juniper's Arlington site (5015 Lee Highway, Suite 102, Arlington, VA) from 5pm-7pm.

Rainbow Tuesdays clinic!

Are you a gay or bisexual man?  You are!  Well then come to the Rainbow Tuesdays clinic at the Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St, Alexandria, VA).  The clinic is the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, and registration is from 5-6:30.  A variety of free tests are available--gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, HIV--as well as Hepatitis A&B vaccinations.

ACLU and Yale launch campaign to stop censoring LGBT websites in schools

ACLU has teamed up with Yale Law School to launch the “Don’t Filter Me” campaign, which aims to stop censorship of websites in public high schools.

The ACLU blog post reports that some schools have been blocking LGBT-related websites such as the GSA Network and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

These schools even allow students to access to anti-LGBT sites that condemn LGBT people or urge LGBT people to try to change our sexual orientation. The ACLU describes this as viewpoint discrimination.

ACLU asks students to report unconstitutional web filtering at their schools by filling out a form at action.aclu.org/dontfilterme.

Free HIV testing at Freddie's Beach Bar

What!?  Yes, that is absolutely correct.  The third Thursday of every month, the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry (NOVAM) provides free, confidential HIV rapid testing at Freddie's Beach Bar (555 23rd St South, Arlington, VA) in conjunction with the National Institutes on Health (NIH).  Come get a free test, learn about HIV vaccine trials, and kick back with a drink to enjoy some karaoke!  9pm-12am.
