Almost. It’s a big word for me. I feel it everywhere. Almost home. Almost happy. Almost changed. Almost, but not quite. Not yet. Soon, maybe.
Joan Bauer / Almost Home
You're not grown until you know how to communicate, apologize, be truthful and accept accountability without blaming someone else.
“Please dont expect me to always be good and kind and loving. There are times when I will be cold and thoughtless and hard to understand.”
— Sylvia Plath
~ Getting Older
So, your 30s are for thriving?
People tell you turning 30 is no big deal, you’re still young, it’s your time now, 30 is the new 20, age is just number, nothing changes. But those same people also remind you, your biological clock is ticking, you’ll find it harder to lose that weight now, you should have been promoted by now and that times getting away with you.
Turning 30 and being in your 30s is about surviving, the pressures around you and the feeling off nostalgia, like your childhood and teenage years were a lifetime ago, are raw and real. You’re longing for perfection and for all your dreams to come true and for your future but you’re caught up on the life you had, the regrets you have and the choices you made, the freedom you had, the simplicity of younger days and everything that led you here.
It’s hard, loved ones are aging, you’re aging, friendships are rare and harder to maintain, love is a whirlwind that makes feel like you have it all one day and then everything is gone the next. You’re still vulnerable, you’re still wounded, you still care and feel everything so deeply. Life doesn’t hurt less just because you’re older now, people still hurt you and let you down, you still hurt people and make mistakes. Some days your heart is aching and you have a real sense of loss and some days you feel nothing and some days you feel more alive than you ever have.
You don’t have to have it all together and there are no milestones you should have achieved suddenly because you’re now 30. Everybody’s path and road is different and that should be celebrated. It’s okay if you feel lost and unsettled now you’re 30, it’s also okay if you feel excited and blessed, it’s okay if you feel afraid or unaccomplished. It’s okay to feel absolutely everything or to not care at all.
All feelings are real, all feelings are valid and all feelings are equal. Life is hard, we don’t need to make it harder for each other.
More people stay in my memories than in my life.
