For someone who writes sibling relationships in literally everything and claims it to be wholesome and healthy, Lily Orchard/CD Call does not understand what healthy sibling relationships are like.

In my experience, as someone with older and younger siblings, these relationships are often simultaneously “don’t even breathe within 50 feet of my general direction” and “I’ll take a bullet for you”

There will be a lot of arguing and teasing, but it’s often also like “Nobody picks on them but ME!”

This is normal. Siblings are supposed to be repulsed by each other and argue, but still share a sense of familial love. Sisters scissoring does not come from a healthy place. Considering Lily’s background, it makes sense that she has such a warped view on the topic.

I hate Lily Orchard for many reasons that others have explained far better than I could. She’s annoying, she is completely media illiterate and can’t even understand stuff made for children which in combination with that video ruined Steven Universe discourse, shockingly unempathetic and even bigoted at times while presenting herself as an authority on abuse and discrimination, she’s a coward, and her fan base is essentially a cult of vulnerable teenagers who have trouble forming their own opinions or recognizing when someone is mistreating them. Seriously, this bitch yells at them for giving her money and they all started profusely apologizing in the chat.

And while I don’t support the idea that someone’s writing or media tastes are necessarily reflective of their world view, her works and certain media she’s consumed are vile and all share common themes that align with the accusations put forth by Courtney. (I don’t like Courtney either because of her recent crash outs) She also has expressed her weird views on the topic in older videos. The way it all comes together tells me that she really is disgusting.

If the story you’re writing is something Lily Orchard would hate, it’s probably peak fiction.

Obviously, don’t write solely to spite some creepy rando losing relevance. Tell the story that you actually want to tell. I just wanted to take a jab at Lily because I hate her.

One old draft of a story I’m still working on took place in the shadow of two old guys’ rivalry after they both betrayed each other and faked their deaths. It all comes back to haunt the younger generation.

Looking back, it was basically the tale of how a gay couple’s messy break-up became everyone else’s problem.

Them warmies think they know what cold is until they set foot on Europa, which most will never do, and I can’t blame them. I never thought a minor puncture in our uniforms would cause three healthy men to freeze to death in a matter of seconds, but I quickly learned that Earth’s rules don’t apply no more. They’re still there all curled up in the fetal position, exactly in death as they were in their final moments of life and will be forever. Europa never gives up her dead. Then again, does anyone ever truly leave Europa?

So there is that whole question of “if people can ride dragons, why have horses?” In fantasy. I agree to an extent. Why not have some sort of dinosaur-like herbivore reptiles, a big reindeer like those they ride in certain parts of Mongolia, even some big flightless birds?

The worst kind of comedy is unintentional comedy. Usually it means something has failed to convey the feeling it had intended. If something meant to be serious makes someone laugh, that’s not a good sign. It’s textbook bathos.

However, One Punch Man uses anticlimax in a masterful way. The whole series is built upon this.

Something modern writers need to stop doing when given control of an established franchise is stop killing off beloved main characters of previous installments in such disrespectful ways. A lot of people will get upset for the wrong reasons, but it’s also just a bad idea to replace someone that audiences are attached to with a completely new character. Especially if they killed the other guy. You know what I’m referring to…

*cough cough The Last of Us Part II, Star Wars, Borderlands 3, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League cough cough*

If you’re going to kill and old main character off, do it with some dignity ffs. Have them go out in a brave sacrifice or something.

I love the ancient advanced civilization trope. I love exploring ruins in fantasy worlds that have may or may not have robots or mechs.

The Old Ones in Horizon, Dwemer in The Elder Scrolls, I don’t know a time where I didn’t like this trope.

You know what else is cool? Tribes who scavenge ancient machinery, maybe find some massive project, and idolize these civilizations, not thinking about why they fell in the first place. Bonus points if the people were aliens or people don’t even know what they looked like.

I love the vibe in stories where it’s a bunch of friends screwing around and exploring, especially if it’s a party in a fantasy world. For some reason though, episodic stories are a challenge for me. Sometimes my brain is like “Ancient samurai centipede demon wielding 100 swords”, but it can’t come up with a silly daily adventure or overarching villain.

For me, the hardest part of making a magic system is setting rules so that it can’t be spammed or do really convenient things. I was thinking “It draws upon the forces of creation itself to deliver a desired effect” but what if that is just making gold? Reviving the dead? Sure, but creating currency is a no-no.

I love villains who are good dads. Dr. Doofenshmirtz and those ProZD skits were amazing.

You know what I love? Glass cannon MC’s. I love when the main character gets a super powerful and special ability, but it hurts them to use, so they can’t just spam it. They have to be strategic and wait for the right moment so that they get the most out of their power.

Some good examples are Izuku Midoriya with One for All in earlier seasons of My Hero Academia and David Martinez with the Sandevistan in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

I don't think that's what a glass cannon is; there's a different name for the trope you're describing, but I don't know it off the top of my head. I do agree with you, though; those characters are pretty sweet.

I also want to give you credit for the two very different examples you gave. It really shows off how much range there can be when it comes to that trope.

In Deku's case, he ended up figuring out a way to control his quirk and ended up better for it.

But in David's case, the Sandevistan was almost entirely detrimental to him in the long run. While he could've handled his situation better, what happened to him in the end due to its prolonged use couldn't have been prevented.

Another Trope I adore, but don’t know the name for, is a rare one as it is confined to spin-offs. It’s when the story is a prequel in an established universe and a well-known villain from the source material shows up at the end, becoming an unstoppable force of nature and making life hell for the protagonist. It makes the world feel more alive, showing that there’s always bigger fish.

Think of Darth Vader in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Adam Smasher in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Homelander in Gen V.

I’m a sucker for this trope, but I don’t see it enough!
