a psa ahead of episode 10 for anime only fans

heya gachi gang! we're nearly halfway through s1 which is awesome! that being said, this is an episode that the gachi fandom has been dreading for awhile, so i think a little psa is in order.

first off, please do not jump into calling this character who will be introduced fan service or gooner bait or what have you. gachi has an incredible variety of fem characters and this is just one of many. please give the anime time to reveal her story, and see what's going on.

if you've praised gachi for its lack of fan service, please extend some trust that the characters haven't been designed lightly in gachiakuta.

I would generalize this to, there is a level of interest in being Part Of The Thing (a reader, a subscriber, a member, a client, etc) where someone will make the effort to switch, in whichever direction. Assuming you can reverse the last change that drove people away and they’ll come back is assuming this level is 50%: they left when their interest dropped below that, they’ll come back when it gets above it.

But it may be more like 60%, 65%. They left when interest in being Part dropped below 40% or 35%, so only getting it above that won’t be enough; you have to get them all the way above the switching threshold.

Also switching back takes almost as much effort as the initial switch. They won’t come back until a) they hate the new service as much as they hated yours AND b) yours is the best option available when they decide to come back, AND c) you’ve either somehow regained their trust or they don’t trust any option.

This whole thing is the reason why Bluesky– being the 450th platform to try to go up against twitter– is an actual thing now. Other attempts failed, because attractive users– the people whose posts draw in other users– have to be motivated to post on the platform in order to draw in users, but they have to get enough engagement to make it worth their time. And of course, engagement requires users to already be there.

The features of the new platform don’t matter. If you can’t motivate a large influx of users to provide engagement and users to engage with, then neither type of user is going to bother to check the site/app regularly, when they can get what they want from the existing site.

And then Elon Musk made it clear that he was going to start running Twitter into the ground, just as bluesky was picking up initial momentum. Don’t get me wrong, Bluesky is a fantastic platform, and if you still have Xitter, you should switch to there, but the main reason for its success was the fact that it was getting its feet under it when Musk started with the bullshit.

Now Xitter has a competitor– and a solid enough one that it’s not going to go away.

I’m predicting something similar will happen when support for Windows 10 ends in October. The thing is, lots and LOTS of perfectly functional computers are going to be left out in the cold without patches, become vulnerable, because they don’t meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. And Linux has finally come far enough as a desktop operating system that it’s actually an alternative now, which means that a lot of people are going to go ahead and bite that bullet and make the switch– aided by a lot of vloggers who are going to milk that content tit for all it’s worth.

And then Microsoft will Find Out that the only way for it to lose its throne as the Dominant Operating System is to Fuck Around like it did.
