Here is an article from NPR about it (May 22, 2026):
Carolina Milanesi, an independent technology analyst, said Google is trying to make its cash cow business — search — richer and more personalized, and it will make shopping easier. But there is a risk that users may have fewer choices about what to click. "Right now it's: I ask a question, I get a bunch of answers and I feel that I'm in control as to which answer I take, or if I'm looking for something, which product I'm going to end up buying. That is going to be less so going forward," she said. Milanesi envisions AI-enabled search and agents proposing products to consumers — perhaps even those they have requested — but with less clarity or choice around where it's coming from. "If you're going to say: 'I want a pair of Jordans, go find them,' you're not necessarily sure what steps have been taken and whether the AI has used a source or a store that was paid for and therefore came up in the search results," she said, "or if AI actually went and did their due diligence and picked the best for me as a customer."
And here's one from Time magazine (May 20, 2026):
While Google already has “AI Mode,” the company will now power the whole search bar through its new Gemini 3.5 Flash model. Instead of the classic list of blue links, Google Search will now also generate a custom page with an AI-generated summary of what you’re searching about, which will then trigger a conversation with AI Mode on the main page, allowing users to ask follow-up questions—similar to the kind of layout you would see when opening ChatGPT.
And a little more from Time's article on how this may affect the websites that we are trying to search for:
When Google first started implementing AI-assisted results, news publishers warned of “catastrophic” impacts on the industry, much of which relies on Google search to drive users to their websites. Last year, news websites saw significant traffic declines as chatbots increasingly replaced Google search as the primary way to find sites and ask questions. Small businesses also noted drops in traffic to their sites from Google, which has traditionally delivered customers. Lily Ray, vice president of SEO strategy & research at Amsive, a digital marketing agency, warned as early as last year that Google’s planned changes to search are “going to have a devastating impact on the Internet.” “It will severely cut into the main source of revenue for most publishers and it will disincentivize content creators who rely on organic search traffic, which is millions of websites, maybe more,” she told Technology Magazine.

my sister told me once that people that REALLY wanna die just do it they uust kill themselves without making anybody else feel bad
"this suicidal person is so stupid for believing nobody will miss them. i remember people i haven't talked to in years lol"
ok but are you present in their life enough for them to realize that?
we can all say after the fact that we cared for our friend who committed or disappeared or whatever. we can even mean it when we say it. we can think about them. but did we ever act on it? did we ever even make them feel like we were there? "nobody would care if i disappeared" is not a literal phrase. of course they know that people would care. what the phrase conveys is a deep sense of alienation that can't be mended by implying stupidity on their part.
One of the posts I made right before my suicide attempt in 2022 was “everyone always turns out to be friends with the person who just killed themself” and I was referring in part to this exact phenomenon,
which was followed with basically everyone I knew including my roommates waiting until the entire town thought I was already dead to say or do anything in support of me at all.
Let people know you care about them

Project 2025 outright calls on conservatives to fund and manufacture more “studies” on the “negative” effects of trans-affirming care.
guess we need to be circulating this psa again. This Is A Fucking Trap. Do Not Participate.
Wow. This is really egregious and I have some background to add. The PI for this study was once my statistics professor. What a displeasure to have to think about him again.
John Michael Bailey is a "Professor of Psychology" at Northwestern University, and his illustrious career in human sexuality studies has produced a thoroughly vile and warped perspective on sex and gender. He was once a NU psychology chairman but stepped down in 2004 following the publication of his book "The Man Who Would Be Queen."
This book, in addition to being extremely unethical from a research perspective by not informing the subjects that they were being studied, peddles the same disgusting lies we have come to expect as foundational transmysoginistic talking points. This guy literally wrote the playbook. Trans women are confused gay men or autogynephilic deviants. He follows in the footsteps of Ray Blanchard as one of the primary advocates for autogynephilia theory.
In addition to his disgrace from the position of chairman of psychology, Bailey has not been allowed to teach his original class, Human Sexuality Studies, since a graphic class-related sexual demonstration in 2011. And the terrible decisions do not stop.
John Michael Bailey has testified during a trial in support of gender-affirming care bans as recently as 2024 and has used evidence from a web survey just like this one.
John Michael Bailey promoted the idea for almost 20 years that male bisexuals did not exist based on one study of his on 30 bisexual men.
John Michael Bailey has published research in 2001 arguing that it is morally acceptable for parents to use gene selection to choose to have only heterosexual children, should it become scientifically feasible. He has also spent a significant portion of his career in support for a genetic/germline explanation for homosexuality and has vigorously investigated what a "gay gene" might look like.
JOHN MICHAEL BAILEY IS A EUGENICIST. He has a long and fraught career littered with this type of research. In addition to everything I've shown, there is so much more.
One more running theme you might notice if you look into these articles further is Northwestern's complete and utter lack of a backbone. The administration has given John Michael Bailey second chance after second chance, and now is continuing to support him and promote his Project 2025-funded research. Just something to note.
Please take care of yourself and watch out for these studies that are looking to take advantage of you. And please spread the word about John Michael Bailey, because it is this exact type of man that the current administration is funneling their money into.
