Got out of the movie theater to find that my job kicked me off this project a week early, and I have to check out on Sunday. Never work for companies based in red states lmao
I found out via automated email (sent at 7pm) that another guy had been added to the project. It didn't mention that he was replacing me, but I noticed that it had changed my listed checkout date to tomorrow. I asked the hotel front desk and they went yeah your checkout date changed. I mentioned it to the other techs, who said they had also gotten the email and didn't even notice that my checkout date had changed. The email just mentioned someone was joining, not leaving.
Not a single human being called or emailed me to let me know I was getting kicked off and needed to prepare to leave tomorrow. They cancelled worked today for air quality, and the field lead didn't say anything to me. Like, they just kinda of expected everyone to closely read this email and pick up the slight change. I guess I was supposed to find out when the room key stopped working tomorrow lol.
This company is pretty infamous among shovelbums/archaeologists for being TERRIBLE to work with, it's on all the "don't take a project unless you are desperate, because they treat you like shit and underpay you" but holy fuck I would have expected, like, a human being to tell me I was supposed to leave and why.
also this comes after I nearly passed out from heat stroke after hiking about a km of slope in direct sunlight and then through wetland, and the kestrel (temp checker thing) said it was 114F out, and I was like "hey dont we take breaks for heat" and it turns out that, yeah, we're supposed to stop work if the kestrel reads past 110F (and take scheduled breaks if it's over 91F) but the company's way of avoiding this seems to be to get really annoyed when you ask to check the temperature.
Also, it's based out of Florida, so I don't know what I was expected regarding worker safety and humanity lol
lmao FINALLY got a call from my manager and she was like “btw you check out tomorrow :) nothing personal but it’s for your own safety bc you seem to struggle with the heat :) we need to meet quota and don’t want you to get hurt :)” so it was 1000% retaliation for me pointing out they weren’t following heat safety guidelines
Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
surprisingly forward-thinking of jim henson and co. to make a female character in the 70's that's allowed to be loud-mouthed and violent and kind of overwhelmingly romantic and even a huge bitch at times and not have a moment where any character asks her to change
going through all the muppet movies in a row made me realize that like. miss piggy was made in the 70's. and it's so rare even today to have a character like her. she's loud, she's selfish, she's funny, she's extremely vain, she's obsessed with romance, she's violent, she's kind of annoying, and there's not a single moment in any of these films where she's asked to tone down any of these personality traits. i am not joking when i say that miss piggy might be one of the best treated female characters ever written
Group with Parasols (1905) by John Singer Sargent
Elliot Page does not play Achilles in The Odyssey like transphobes were preemptively angry about but Homer just told me he updated the Iliad and Achilles is canonically transgender now and not just subtextually transgender like in the first draft.
having a multi year long character obsession becomes like a abstract thought experiment at some point

i’m going to be really honest with you guys i think the tendency to read the absolute worst possible intentions into every action you don’t agree with is getting too automatic and it’s eating you from the inside out
While Eva is a dutch first name, Stratt isn't a Dutch last name.
I hereby present reasons for Eva Stratt to be named that
1. Andy Weir did his research bad (boooring)
2. Stratt has a German dad and a Dutch mom but lives in the Netherlands (plausible)
3. Grace misheard Stratt say 'I'm Deutsch' and assumed she was Dutch (funny as hell and very in character)
Concept: PG-13 movie of a Shakespeare play, allowed one F-word. Where in the screenplay do you insert it?
When Fortinbras enters at the end of Hamlet. It’s his only line, and the play ends immediately after.
I love this answer so much! My only other idea:

uooooogh the christian God is actually deer skull and raccoon salmon in pickup truck ooooooooooooooo and She (god) (usually refererd to as Male but im Queering it) talked to me in parking lot and said uh h Life Is Decay Anr Rotting and Sunlight is actually the souls of deer skull and i was like woah but im just little old me from somewhere in the contiguous USA and She (god) (Queering it) said being Yourself is th e most important thing and that i should Vote
letting family members sit in for dead senators is just monarchy logic im appalled that this has even happened before
Each state gets to decide how their state is represented in Congress
This has been a common method for a long time in some states
The idea is that a Senator's sibling/spouse/parent/child knows their intentions and policies better than a political rival or a random person would. It's a pretty good way to prevent political assassinations tbh
An unelected individual getting grandfathered into a real political position due to their blood or legal relationship with a deceased elected official is not pretty good actually
