❤️; Despite her being herself again, she was still frozen at what just happened. She supposed it was better to be heedful of what she said from now, she didn’t want to know what would happen if she ever upset the other. “N-No, it’s my fault…! I think I went a little overboard, aha…ha…”
Did she want to be friends with someone like this? Not exactly- it seemed like she had some issues that required some assistance. But would rejecting her set her off again? The chances at this point were rather scattered, and she was stuck between rejection and approval. So this girl wanted to be ordered around- weird. But she honestly didn’t have much to go against it if that was what she really wanted to do.
Brows scrunched, she took a deep breath in, hoping she was doing the right thing.
“Uh… then, do you want to get something to drink first?”
Tsumiki could not accept something like the girl trying to place the blame on herself, and she desperately shook her head. Even if she was entirely socially inept she knew a nervous laughter when she heard one. It was a defensive mechanism rather than showing an expression of joy or humor.
She didn’t manage to get a word in otherwise, though, as her eyes widened and her entire body seemed to come to a standstill. It seemed her brain had short-circuited. Sorry, but Tsumiki.exe has stopped working, we’ll let you know when we find a solution.
“M-me?” Her hands were trembling, but with excitement rather than fear. “Nobody’s ever invited me to...to hang out, or d-drink, or-or anything!” She brushed tears away from her cheeks. “T-that’s the nicest thing anyone has e-ever said to me!”
nosedquartz:
“There’s nothing wrong with my nose. I don’t have a nose.” Why were the insects she came across always so fixated on this ‘nose’ thing? She could understand if they were impressed by her gem, as she was a magnificent example of a Quartz soldier, but for the most part they were all about it being a ‘weird nose’.
“As for my health, I’m fine. Do you see any cracks? Am I misshapen or warped in any way? No.” Jasper pointed to the gem in the middle of her face, as if to make a point.
To drive it even closer to home, dared to lean in. “Tell me, insect, where do I look broken?”
There was very clearly a nose on her face, thus Tsumiki was even more confused. Was it possible her skin miscoloring was due to jaundice? Without any sort of medical records, Tsumiki wasn’t comfortable in assuming anything.
She kept her hands clasped tightly together in an attempt to stop them from quivering, and her breaths came out a little shaky from fear. “N-no cracks,” she shook her head, cowering backwards more and more. “I-I can’t tell if it’s misshapen since I’ve never seen it before -” She was talking too much and immediately slapped a hand over her mouth.
What an idiot she was. Tsumiki let out a whimper as the intimidating woman-like person moved in closer and she averted her eyes in obedient submission. “I-I-I’m sorry...I’m just a cockroach!” The flood gates had opened.
“Um, um…” Ruby began. She wanted to try to ask the other to calm down, yet with how much of a fuss she was making, she couldn’t get a word out. Honestly, she was about to start crying herself with how worried she was- it was surprising that she hadn’t done so already!
“P-Please calm down…! I’m really worried…” Pausing for a moment, she quickly checked her pockets, pulling out a handkerchief before handing it to the other. She wasn’t really sure of how to help the other, yet it was a start.
Ruby wasn’t too worried about her injuries, they were small and they weren’t anything she wasn’t used to herself. She just wanted to make sure the girl in front of her was okay, she was more concerned about her.
Oh no, the other was empathetic, while meant by her being pathetic, she was only serving to upset the other further. “I-I’m sorrrrrry!” Tsumiki covered her face, hastily trying to get to her feet, only stumbling slightly. For a long time she stared at the handkerchief before accepting it with trembling fingers.
Perhaps she was afraid that the girl would change her mind at the last second, mocking her for daring to think that anyone would try to offer her something like that. Tsumiki carefully wiped her face, having seemed to calm down a little bit.
“I ma-made it dirty...” The girl tried to shrink from the stranger’s gaze, voice filled with shame. Nobody would want to touch anything that she had sullied with her disgusting hands. “I’m sorry...”
“If you were handchosen then that means you do deserve it. I do not know that much about the profession, honestly, but you do speak with fervor about it and that means you actually love it.” Despite Horo’s ignorance in the subject, she did feel Tsumiki was more than competent in her field. Just intuition, nothing concrete at all. And judging by that name and description, that sould be an academy for elite in the other party’s home world. Interesting for her in some ways.
The farmacies’ led signs surrounding Sector 005′s avenues at that point were starting to become visible and the number of people wearing respirator masks increased from being one or two per hundred to five or six. Her least favourite part of her home sector but it wasn’t a torture after all.
“By the way, if you are still wondering about why I am covering my nose, it is because I am not used to that smell of yours. As you may already know, I am a wolf and my nose is quite the sensitive one.” She added, a hint of shame behind her words as she looked over the shoulder.
Even if she were complimented everyday for the rest of her life, she was certain kind words would always manage to catch her off-guard. Tsumiki stumbled backwards as though the words had dealt a physical blow against her body, which most certainly was not the case. Sticks and stones may break her bones, but words didn’t have the ability to shove her shoulders, it just didn’t work like that.
“T-thank you!” She rubbed at her eyes. “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me!” That alone was nearly enough to open the floodgates once more, and tears of joy welled up in the corners. “I-I’ll prove myself to you! If you want!”
Her tone made it incredibly clear that she could never push herself onto someone - just a harsh glance would be enough to send her running with her tail between her legs (metaphorically.)
The nurse was not oblivious to the amount of people wearing masks, and she eyed them curiously. The air quality must have been poor in this sector, leading to increased chances of lung damage. “Oh,” her shoulder sagged in relief. “I thought it was because I smelled bad! M-my classmates would call me a pig for it.”
☼》 Before Chiaki could even respond, he was being dragged by the alarmed young woman to a nearby bench. He laughed and smiled at the young lady, a little sorry that he caused her such alarm.
“There’s no need to worry, Miss! This kind of injury isn’t a–” he gets cut off as she pulls out what seemed to be a bona fide, full-fledged first aid kit, of all things, which made him laugh even more.
“Amazing! To think I’d bump into someone so prepared, I must be lucky today!” he laughed, beaming up at her gratefully. “Are you some kind of nurse?!”
To have someone smiling in her presence without a hint of malice was a new experience, to say the least. And if she didn’t know any better, she would say that the youthful boy was happy to see her. Obviously, that never happened when it came to her, but even the thought of it was enough to make her feel a little warm on the inside.
“An injury is an injury!” Tsumiki planted her feet on the ground firmly. “W-what if it got infected?! Then you’d need to go to the hospital!” And even though it was her job, nobody enjoyed having to visit inpatient care.
The compliment was enough to make her blush. “I-it’s not that impressive,” she weakly protested, secretly pleased. “I’m a High School Level N-Nurse! Mikan Ts-Tsumiki, nice to meet you!” She squeezed her eyes shut before focusing on the task at hand, finding her small container of medical peroxide. “It-it’ll be cold but it won’t sting! I-I promise!”
❤️; In that split second of personality change that happened, she felt her heart stop for a bit. Intimidation? No, it was mostly how it unsettled her to see that dark expression given in return to silence her. What was up with that transition? It came out of nowhere, and with the height difference it made it all the more awry.
But thankfully, she resorted back to her usual self (if that was even right at this point) afterwards. She was left like the dust, however, unable to regain that sense of assurance to talk back to her.
“A-Ah…” What was up with this girl, like seriously? “I… I guess…” Should she continue to fight back, she thought she might be barked back again- or perhaps even worse.
Without a doubt she had scared the other off by simply being herself. The unfortunate change of circumstances left her with shining eyes once more. “Uwah...” She quietly cried. “I-I’m sorry! I say such weird things sometimes!” Such a mistake surely wouldn’t have been forgiven easily, but when she had offered to make up for it last time, Yazawa-san seemed to be upset.
Therefore, Tsumiki was at a loss of what to do. “P-please tell me what to do,” she trembled as she shrank backwards. “I’m fine with it, honestly!” Being called names, or being pushed around.
Still, her smile was without a doubt weak. “I don’t really have any friends! Not that I need any...” No one that would bother standing up for her. “D-don’t feel bad, please! I know I’m pathetic...”
“It is fine. It is not like I am afraid of doctors, it is the most altruistic profession you can have and I do recognize how good people can they truly be. It is just the concept of ‘shot’ does not appeal to me.” Horo expressed, completely sincere with her temporary companion. Maybe she was just being childish, it wouldn’t be a surprise, to be honest. Nonetheless, she tried to mantain the chillest vibe she could at that moment.
“What about that title? It is the first time I hear something like that.” If somebody had a title, then they must be someone important… like her. Kind of. That didn’t sound like a self-imposed thing, it seemed pretty stupid coming from somebody that looked like a reliable person in her action field. Besides, what was more intriguing is that she was particularly young to be somebody with a title and, apparently, a lot of experience.
Tsumiki appreciated the sincerity and clarity with which Horo spoke. There was a little chance for her to misinterpret the words this way, and the words were not minced to try and mask how much she might have truly been hated. People were so hesitant to speak with her, probably because she was so annoying and frustrating, but rather than directly tell her to go away, they continuously dropped hints. (Or, at least, that was how Tsumiki tended to perceive everything.)
“It’s okay!” She tried to soothe the other. “M-many people don’t like shots! Which is a shame...” Her voice trailed off into a disappointed mumble before she let out a quiet squeak. “It - the title just - I don’t de-deserve it, probably, but...”
Wringing her hands anxiously, she took a deep breath. “It’s - it’s for those who go to Hope’s Peak Academy!” That might not mean much to the other. “A-a prestigious place...you have to be h-handchosen and...”
► This wasn’t really how she’d gotten Mikan to fall for despair initially, but that wasn’t the angle the SHSL Analyst was going for with this encounter. No, she wanted to the nurse to fall for Junko herself. The despair? It could come later. Fooling around with her cute senpai could fill the boredom she had for the time being - and she still had steps to take before she could really leave a mark in this city anyways.
Spreading despair in this place was harder than she’d thought.
“I appreciate the sentiment Tsumiki-senpai, I really do!” Her response to the nurse’s ‘I’ll do anything’ came with pep as she pulled away from the hug and gently held the other by the shoulders. “But I’m not so selfish to ask that of you when we just reunited. You have no memories of me, right? So I won’t do anything weird like ask for a kiss. I’m not that selfish!” Yes you are, and stop filling her head with weird ideas you devil woman.
“I just want you to be happy, ‘kay? Even if you feel like you’re the worst person in the world, remember I think you’re the most beautiful, amazing, coolest woman here! I’ll always love you!”
With just a few sentences, Tsumiki was completely wrapped around her fingers. The more Junko’s melodic voice resonated in her ears, the more she wanted to lean against her warmth and never leave the place where she felt loved and - and accepted. Someone who accepted her for the mistake that she was...
It would have been too good to have been true, had she not been so naive. It wasn’t Tsumiki’s place to question things, yet her sudden and intense attachment would have been worrisome to anyone who didn’t know her - without a doubt she would have laid her life down for Junko had she just waved her hands.
“Pl-please don’t question my loyalty!” The nurse squeezed her eyes shut, a surprisingly determined expression taking control of her face. “You aren’t selfish at all! I-if you love me, you have to be the most selfless wo-woman...”
She took a deep breath, pressing their lips together without a moment of hesitation, wanting to communicate all her feelings into the gesture.
Being the incredibly shy girl she was, she tended to freak out quite a bit when faced with unfamiliar situations- or pretty much anything that seemed frightening to her. Right now was probably an excellent example.
Minding her own business, exploring the city, she suddenly found herself on the ground, scraping her hands and knees against the ground. While she would normally scream in panic, it seemed that the person she supposedly smacked into was a little more panicked than she was, that was certainly surprising for her!
“Oh, um, it’s okay M-Miss…! I-I’m not angry…” Ruby explained. Sitting up, she looks at the palms of her hands quickly, before looking back up at the stranger. To be perfectly honest, she was more worried about her now!
“Um… Are… Are you okay…?”
If the other girl had scraped her hands and knees, her punishment without a doubt would be sever - still, Tsumiki would accept it without a word of complaint. After all, it was her fault she could never seem to fix herself - damaged goods had no place on the shelves, even if it was probably wrong to think of herself as a product for others to use.
“I’m sorry!” The tears that had built up began to stream down her face. “A-are you hurt? I can fix it! I won’t mess up, I pr-promise!” She would surely do whatever the girl would order of her. “Please don’t worry about trash like me!!”
She was fine. Well - all things considered. Physically, there was only a light scrape on her elbow. Emotionally, she was grovelling on the pavement in front of the red-haired beauty, so that was up for interpretation a little.
RANK UP▸CITIZEN
She wouldn’t really have many people to text, would she? Still, her parents had never graced her with a cell phone - the closest she had ever gotten was her student handbook on Jabberwock Island.
Oh, wasn’t this exciting? Tsumiki giggled as she clicked on another ringtone choice, absolutely delighted. “I-I wonder what I can do with this!”

☼》 Having a few injuries isn’t really a weird thing for Chiaki. But usually, he was within close distance of the clinic or a first aid kit, and not really in an unknown place where he didn’t know where things were at.
The young man was walking around, clutching his arm–he had brushed against something sharp apparently, that tore through the sleeve of his shirt. He didn’t even know when that happened (maybe when he was practicing stunts? he’s sure getting rusty), nor did he even notice he was injured until he felt a slight sting and also felt his blood dripping down his arm. A hero fails to notice these things in the heat of the moment, ha ha! ☆
“Hey, Miss!” He called to a young woman, giving her a smile. “Do you know any nearby clinics or drug stores or anything like that? I’m new around here, so I don’t know places and stuff yet.”
She supposed that if any luck existed in the world at all, this would be one of those moments where someone would turn their head to the sky and thank any deity for setting the situation up in such a manner. To run into a nurse when injured was surely uncanny. At first she didn’t even think she was being addressed.
Sometimes it was hard to remember that she was larger than a speck of dust, even if she almost never felt like it. Tsumiki was only ever addressed respectfully when she was on the job, so when she spun around her eyes widened. A calculating gaze swept over the young man’s body, landing in particular on the blood congealed on his shirt.
“Y-you’re injured!” That was a little obvious, and with more speed than one might anticipate she was standing in front of him, grabbing his hands to tug him to a nearby bench. “Now, do-don’t move!” It was a good thing she stole from that medical store with Evie lately - and where did she pull that first aid kit from, anyway?!
❤️; Just as she assumed this was going to a better direction, she thought too soon as she heard how much bullying there was with her. How could she say that with a smile? If it were her, she would have reacted quite differently and it somewhat chilled her seeing how happy she was with all of this.
“You need to stick up for yourself! Don’t you get mad when they say that? It’s not right of them at all to say those things at you.” Hands clenched into fists, she pointed at her before without a moment’s hesitation.
“Listen up, if they ever say that you need to tell them to cut it out. They’re completely wrong and you shouldn’t even accept it so willingly in the first place!”
Tsumiki only needed attention. Even if it turned her knees bloody and darkened her bruises to a sickening purple color, she knew that being ignored was worse. Her darkest memories were that of her parents shoving her in a dark closet, ignoring her wailing as she covered her face, trying to hide away from the dark.
After a while she simply learned to stop crying. Being too disruptive was an inconvenience to everyone surrounding her, and for some reason Tsumiki seemed to be getting bothered by what Yazawa-san was trying to tell her.
“It’s better than being ignored, isn’t it?” She stepped forward, her finger tapping her lips. “What would you know, anyway?”
Then it seemed her sudden bravery, no matter how dark, vanished. “A-ah, I’m sorry!” Tsumiki cowered backwards. “They w-would hate me if I told them to stop!”
“Do not worry, thank you for clariying that, Tsumiki.” Horo retorted with the calmest tone she could find her spectrum. Her sight was still focused on front, the wise wolf was trying to avoid eye contact to not uncomfort her even more.
Her left ear twitched at the description. A chill went down through her spine as soon her brain processed the words. That did not sound pleasant at all. Of course, for somebody like her, that idea had more of torture than of solution. It was truly something fitting for the phrase ‘the remedy is worse than the disease’. Not like she was afraid of needles, she was used to sharp objects, the concept itself didn’t manage to convince her at all.
“No, I thank you.” She declined respectfully, mainting a rather neutral expression on her countenance, she wasn’t sick and now she was desiring to not be for a long time. “You plan to work in this city’s hospitals, do you not?”
Unfortunately, not worrying was not something that Tsumiki was capable of, although the calm tone did indicate that she probably wouldn’t be called worthless for apologizing so much. That was kind of a nice feeling, she wasn’t going to lie. People in Hive City seemed much nicer than those in Japan! Not something she would have expected.
She enjoyed being able to talk about her job, but she could have sworn she saw Horo’s facial expression falter for just one tiny second. “I-I’m sorry,” she quivered. “Did I talk too much? M-many people are afraid of doctors and sh-shots and I just went ahead and ran my mouth off...”
Tsumiki seemed to shrink a little. However, no outburst came so she kept her head bowed respectfully for a few moments, hoping it was enough to make up for the earlier blunder. “I-I would like to! I’m not sure they’d hire someone like me, considering my t-title of High School Level Nurse do-doesn’t mean much around here.”
Naturally Evie had a magnetic personality and unbelievable beauty. It was easy for her to befriend and garner the attention of others. Even when she was banished to The Castle Across the Way she had her mother. Technically Evie was almost never alone. Yet, there was still this ache in her heart. A different sort of loneliness that came from those positive traits. One that came from the knowledge that people generally only cared for her façade. Not many cared about the real her. Truly she just wanted friends that she could ugly cry in front of. Something that seemed simple but was practically unattainable for her.
Evie smiled a bit wider when Mikan leaned into her hand. It made Evie happy that Mikan began to be at ease around her. Mikan may not be a villain, but she obviously an outcast. The world had rejected Mikan just like it had rejected Evie. That was enough for Evie to consider Mikan one of her own. Someone who deserved her villainous affection and protection. “Let’s be friends. Not the type where you just meet at a party and are like ‘yeah we will totally hang out,’ but you never do. Like real friends. Want to come over my house this week? We can do make-overs and we’ll find you the perfect tiara! It will be fun promise!”
It was pleasant to hear Mikan giggle. Since they had begun their interaction Mikan had be a bundle of nerves and self-doubt. “Cinderella seems to have a nastier streak then you do. The Charming family even craved retribution and punishment for how her Wicked Stepmother and Stepsisters treated them. So yes, I would say you are so sweet.”
When Mikan grabbed Evie’s hands, Evie jumped startled. It wasn’t an action she would have expected from the meek girl. When Mikan complimented Evie, she gave an enchanted smile. “Thanks. I’m a villain, I have to get my hands dirty.” Evie squeezed Mikan’s hands. “Plus I love science, it is one of my greatest passions.”
Evie’s eyes glittered with excitement when Mikan mentioned she was a nurse. “Really!? That is so cool! That must mean you like medical science too! So that means we can do that stuff together instead of you doing it for me. friends! I’m currently running a human trial on some drugs I synthesized in may lab. Maybe you can help! Wouldn’t that be so fun? I mean I could really use someone with your knowledge.”
Mikan seemed to have an extreme personality and already formed quite the attachment to Evie. That didn’t scare Evie no, it made her happy. Dedicated friends were something the villain always cherished. Especially ones who seemed so open to her villainous ways. Evie’s left hand let go of Mikan but her right hand slid its fingers in between Mikan’s. Slowly Evie began to pull her towards the dance floor. “There is this great medical supply shop I steal from…We should definitely go sometime!”
Tsumiki wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if there were so many people lining up to be Evie’s friend - she was radiant in the sort of way that plants would lean towards the sun, soaking in the warmth before a dark day of clouds would roll over the sky once again. Although it was entirely possible she was still lonely - Tsumiki could have people constantly pushing her down but still have her heart ache. It was attention, but not attachment.
Never having belonged anywhere, she could not fathom the idea of being sought out in someone else’s free time. Could her presence be missed, other than when she was used as something similar to a punching bad? It might have been normal to everyone else, but to her it felt more akin to a gift.
Being in someone’s thoughts... “I-I would love to!” The more she was encouraged and complimented, the more she seemed to emerge from her shell. While there was no doubt she would always be shy, perhaps Evie could see the more passionate and clever side of her.
More than that, finding someone else who also spent their hours delving into things such as science and chemicals allowed her to find common ground. For once, she could place her feet firmly on the ground, even if it was for a short while. Human trials sounded rather exciting, and Tsumiki didn’t seem to have any moral conflict about the news.
“I’ve studied all the weakest parts of the human body,” she giggled. “How to torture without killing!” Perhaps she wasn’t so innocent to take such interest in grim subjects. “I’ll-I’ll be useful and helpful, I promise!” Her eyes glittered at the possibilities.
As she was tugged towards the dance floor, she looked a bit hesitant, turning towards Evie for confidence and support. If she didn’t try anything too complicated nothing would end in a disaster, most likely. “L-let’s do it!” She cheerfully agreed, always needing more medical supplies..
