So the last few weeks have been rough. Last week's art class was a disaster, after the most chaotic day at the office I have ever had. It broke me. Then there were family and personal issues, beurocracy to deal with and social rendezvous to keep. It all wore me down, but I fought my way out of what I suspect were the beginnings of depression. I couldn't have done it without the help of my wonderful fiancé, Elske De Jager (@family3magic). She is my lighthouse in a turbulent sea. Time to smash it with my art! #sketch #messysketch #depression #standup #renewed
So I had left my drawing materials and sketchbook in the car, and I thought it a poor idea to go fetch them at 03:45 this morning. Enter the Penflex Jumbo Kid's Marker challenge. This is the result. #art #marker #markerart #sketch
What started as a quick sketch of Dr Strangelove, turned into Neon-zombie-cyborg_trumpman. Happy Friday!! #sketch #trump #markerart
Acrylic Still Life Update: Well, Wednesday's class was a bit trickier than expected. We were asked to mix a polyfiller (plaster) and wallpaper glue mixture, that went into our acrylics. We used that to create texture on the board. #acrylic #artclass #polyfiller
Basic sketch and background for tonights art class. Acrylic still life. Super excited, but nervous. These classes always push my boundries. Getting better at it! #pencilsketch #artprep #artclass

So...I started a once a week art class last Wednesday, to build my skills up. The first class was sketches with pencil, charcoal pencil and two difrent hardnesses of natural charcoal. For last night's class, we had to pick an image of cups, and paint it with acrylics. I haven't worked more than a sketch or two with cahrcoal before, and acrylics are completely new to me. It was a very uncomfortable, but fulfilling experience both times. Not what I expected, but that 's how you learn to push past the painful relationship you have with your shortcomings. To accept yourself as you are, and then grow into into something something greater that lies within..
Keep working at whatever you'e passionate about, and over time you will became a master of your craft.
I love Alex's videos. My 5 year old son does too. Here, he tackles a sensitive issue...the French Burger. Funny, informative and oh so yummy looking! Enjoy!
After a long day at his day job, how does an artist start his evening of creative productivity.....dishes. poof!
This should give you guys an idea of the style I'm hoping to somehow pull off for the graphic novel: A blend of sci-fi comic (marker sketches) and the more abstract (pencil...umm....experiments). Hope this satisfies ur curiosity, at least for now George Bennie!
So this is what ai lok like at 4:20 in the morning. An hour after I choose to get up. I've started a project that, right now, seems a million light years of work and skill building away. I have no idea how I'm going to get it done, but I'm taking small, slow steps towards it. If you're keen on seeing some of the planning I'm doing, comment and let me know.
This has been one of my life's greatest challenges. How about you?
How are you living? Wisdom from a cook.
Today begins my experiment to see if I could have the discipline, motivation and desire to be a full time artist. Leave from work...check. Work schedule...check. 10 minutes late......ughhh. :P
Work for yourself. Work for your heart. Don't work for an object. Don't work for someone else's pocket. Listen to the deepest part of yourself, and find what you can contribute. Then take your soul back from the machine.
