No wonder I don’t get along on SM with most of this drooling, uncouth fandom.

I don’t judge them for not wanting to do sex scenes, given I’m not the one naked “in front of” millions of ppl. But, do you think OL would have been as successful if it wasn’t for those scenes in S1?
Yes, I didn’t watch for the sex scenes. I watched for the beauty of Scotland and the beauty of the relationship between Jamie and Claire and the chemistry of Sam and Cait (who were complete unknowns to me because I watched after Season 1 aired).
If people watched primarily for the sex scenes, they really didn’t care about the show, IMO. You have to differentiate between the hook to acquire viewers and the depth of the show to retain them.
I disagree about watching for the sex and not caring and here’s why…..
We were sold on the sex. We were told it was the “Female Gaze”. We were sold on Claire’s sexual agency. We were told that it was ok, admirable, sexy af to want sex and to not be afraid to take the lead on it. It was empowering to a great deal of their female audience. And then, suddenly we were meant to feel ashamed for it. To hide that the titillation was part of why we tuned in. To be embarrassed to be a horny grannie. So, I say, if you watched it for the sex scenes, and you enjoyed it for the sex scenes then good for you. Anyone deserves to feel strong and proud of being a sexual being. Not ashamed.
And, let’s be real, the writing has really been in the shitter the past couple of seasons. All of the things that made it special and different have been muted down to a typical Hollywood tv series. L-shaped blankets, fading to black, and women’s bodies and lives as only purpose to men.
@sherrigamblin 👏👏👏👏 Thank you for reminding us how they first sold the show and now we are perverts for wanting to see the love story between Jamie and Claire.
