Get a Library Card even if you never use it

Imagine if we did the “public libraries are punk” thing for other subcultures. Imagine if people made shirts that said “Soup kitchens are grunge” or “Mixed Use Urbanism is Juggalo”.

Libraries are sneaky, because once you go in, it's soo easy to get a library card, and once you have one, you can pretty much grab one of everything of all the stuff they have there with no consequence, and take it home. But then once you're home and you've read all the stuff you'll have to go back to the library to return the stuff, and once you're at the library again, you're at the library again, so might as well pop in to see what they got, and then you're hauling half their shit home again, and then you'll need to return to the library to return them, so you're at the library again
And the next thing you know you've read 3000 books, your crops are clear and your skin is watered, an angel descents from the heaven to suck your dick twice a week, and also you've got some books to return so you've got a perfectly valid reason to go pop in to the library. Just a little bit.

You are my one opportunity to send library-related posts to my mom (librarian) that she hasn’t already seen reposted to Facebook, so you have my eternal gratitude for that. (and, yknow, for everything else you do. Thank you!)
shouts out library moms they’re a cool bunch. fun fact i got my first library job because my best friend’s mom was the director. i hope your mom enjoys the posts ❤️

I don't know if you're an actual librarian or just very passionate, but I am someone looking into going into library sciences after my gap year. Any tips?
time for some lore…i’m in the same position! finishing my undergrad planning on going into library sciences - i’ve worked in libraries before but not with the official “librarian” title. so…real librarians, sound off! what advice would you have for some young hopefuls like ourselves?
What would you do if you lived in the setting of Fahrenheit 451?! (So uhhh, a lot of books get burned in that world...)
not to get deep on a gimmick blog but in a lot of ways we are inching closer to that reality. attacking the intelligentsia is a primary component of fascism - which is why we need institutions like libraries now more than ever. if i lived in that world i would hope to be a part of that underground fighting back. as for right now, the best advice i can give is never. stop. learning. especially with the rise in ai, companies want you to stop thinking for yourself. prove them wrong. read a book or article about a new topic. aimlessly scroll on @jstor for a while. have deep conversations with friends. go on a wikipedia rabbit hole. anything that keeps your mind active and ready to fight back.
anyways, i haven’t read that book since high school and i didn’t really like it, but i will chalk that up to the fact that i was reading it for a high school english class. should i give it another shot?
My local library had a days since James Patterson last published counter.

could an average, able-bodied person reasonably walk from where you live to a library, in good weather?
yes, because i live at a school/college etc with a library
yes, very easily
yes, there's a library in a reasonable walking distance
yes, but it'd take a while / terrain would suck to navigate
yes, but it'd take so long / be difficult enough to do that nobody would
no, there's no library in a reasonable walking distance
Reblogging to help increase the sample size!

For no reason here is a library story
There will be millions of actions like this over the coming years. An important thing to remember is that for them to work (anywhere, not just libraries) is people absolutely can’t announce that this is what they are doing.
Not seeing constant acts of resistance doesn’t mean it isn’t happening all around you all the time. Some very effective methods require silence and secrecy.
Something to keep in mind.
