man remember nabiyah be... remember damon daunno...
And you know what it was so fucking nice to see the gorgeous & talented Allie Daniel in the Hadestown proshot!!!! trans women I 💚 you forever and ever
I have always love love love loved that deep bass vocal part in the trio of muses and this felt so completely right and natural. Women!!!!!
Like my god trans women in musical theater you simply own the whole entire world
I’m not really a mean person I just think you should need to be able to sing and act to be in a Broadway show
Hadestown really did just set the standard for all proshots going forward. "The cinematography of this stage production was extraordinary" is a wild sentence but completely true. This is the rubric all future proshots should be held to.
everybody looked and everybody saw that spring had come again. with a love song, with a tale of a love that never dies, with a love song for anyone who tries.
hadestown at new york theatre workshop (2016) dir. rachel chavkin
at one point i'd resolved to be less of a hater but then i recently realized anyone who found my incessant negging of r**ve c*rney particularly annoying would have already unfollowed me. now i just keep it out of the tag.
*scrolling through the hadestown tag*
post 1: I cried in the theater, amazing, stupendous
post 2: *passionately analyzing symbolism and themes*
post 3: ok but bleebo and blorbo are so orpheus x eurydice coded like when marvo was in the spangler. AU where bleebo doesn't turn
post 4: I hate reeve carney
I haven’t seen the proshot, but I saw both the NYTW and the Broadway versions of Hadestown, and as usual my thought is “I’m glad people like it in its current form, but getting it to Broadway meant bleeding it of almost everything that made it theatrically and textually worthwhile”
what they don't tell you about hadestown is that orpheus and eurydice are not the main characters. neither are persephone and hades. or hermes. or the fates. the main character is whoever in the band is playing the trombone because holy fuck
I should be able to go into any cinema any time of year and see Amber Gray singing songs
had to redownload the app urgently because I accidentally found this pic
“If It’s True” from Hadestown sung by Damon Daunno at NYTW
I’m forever annoyed that they didn’t include this in the recorded soundtrack. To give some context: this happens right after Nothing Changes, when Hades runs out Orpheus after he snuck in to save Eurydice the first time. By singing this song, Persephone takes his side and the walls open (see: Chant II “Everybody knows the walls have ears. Is it true?”)
NYTW Orpheus and Eurydice you are so dear to me
if you can do it, so can she. if she can do it so can we.
finally got around to making some obc hadestown art who cheered!
