omg do you like kiara? bc i saw u reblog things about her and she’s one of my favs but i feel like EVERYONE in this fandom hates her sm so i barely post about her so i was just happy seeing someone reblog kie posts 😭

i LOVE kiara! i think she’s one of the realest depictions of a young woman with a big heart and a deep sense of justice who lacks the knowledge on how to create change that she wants to see in the world. she’s clever, she’s funny, she’s a great friend, and hilariously up until season 4? she’s beloved by almost everyone on the island (until ruthie arrived and hamfistedly fucked the status quo). haters are literally just wrong

and it’s usually 1 people who hate any kind of conflict in a television show and are annoyed at kiara’s actions that move the plot forward, 2 people who judge her for canonically sleeping with ?? TWO characters? or 3 racism. almost always door number three though

Listen, I know that portraying nerds as chubby, socially awkward and with bad eyesight is problematic. Except for my boy George. You can pry him from my cold, dead hands.

I think it's honestly because George Cubbins is that rare socially awkward smart kid with a bit of chub and bad eyesight that truly does not have any self loathing or self consciousness about himself. There's never a moment in the books where we see him question his looks, be sad about not belonging, look dejected because he's not on the football team or whatever. There's never a moment he's embarrassed by being smart, by wearing glasses, by wearing ill fitting clothing, any of it. It's way more common to seeing kids who are caustic or hostile or standoffish because they have some kind of baggage or insecurities about themselves. George is caustic and hostile because he's a vicious bitch always ready to throw hands.

I love that George doesn't have a tragic backstory. He has a home, a good family, and he's so smart. He didn't have to be an Agent, he could have continued school or pursued something safer and easier. But he chose to risk trauma, injury, and death, he is often traumatised, injured, and near death, all because he decided as a small child that he was going to fix the world and he will not back down from that goal. To have other options and choose a hard life for yourself on purpose simply because you see something wrong and you want to try and fix it takes such an incredibly strong person. He's so cool.
