I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.

Sg Jazz being possessive over Sentinel regarding Optimus and BA (probably because Sentinel’s pretty decent and caring for an sg Autobot) only for them to be interested in him too. BA wants to get to know him and talk with him but he’s cagey over her being a decepticon soft spark and an organic lover (and part organic!). Optimus and him have…a weird dynamic. Bossbot bosses him around a lot more than Sentinel does, and his relationship with Sentinel? Makes his plating itch. But he also lets him do more compared to the rules he follows under sentinel command.

Spider lady plays nice and seems true in her affection, she and sentinel seem…almost sickeningly sweet sometimes that it’s hard not to want to be between them (the pecks on the cheek she gives totally don’t make his fuel pump stutter. Nope. Not at all. Stop asking!)

Over all, they’re definitely a dysfunctional little group (with Optimus being likely the main source of their issues tbh.) but they’re interesting. Now if only BA could convince them to not take over Detroit after they get ride of Sumdac…

How do you think Jazz deals with jealousy? (Relationships and other stuff too)

OOOOO this is a tasty question!

Jealousy is a messy thing that fits Sentinel like a glove, but with Jazz? Yeesh. It’s gonna take a lot of small repeated instances to break him down enough to insecurity. Y’know since his default is self assured cool dude B]

But let’s assume that Jazz is already super duper attached to someone and their attention drifts away to someone else. Like uh… let’s say Master Yoketron! Teach has to teach and Jazz ain’t the only ninjabot. It’s no biggie.

As he progresses on his training, Yoketron begins to pull away more so he can focus his attention on the newbies. Ok, yeah, that makes sense… kinda sucks. But that’s just how things roll. He’ll still try to reach out to spend time with Yoketron. That old wise bot means a lot to him. Y’know with his empathy and morals and such.

Jazz deals with his jealousy by pushing it aside in favor of maintaining the peace. Which isn’t really dealing with it at all. On a Cybertron where so much already sucks as the default Jazz clings onto the bits of good and magnifies it. Ignores his hurt for as long as he can.

We could also throw in my little headcanon that Jazz and Blaster used to date way back when. Until Blaster’s attention kept getting pulled into different directions. His music career and his relationship with his cassettes are the big two. Jazz tried to lighten the load by not asking for much. But in doing so he sorta made himself… idk. The squeaky wheel gets oiled, or however the saying goes. Their relationship ended amicably, even if deep down Jazz still hasn’t gotten closure.

No longer a priority student for Yoketron, other priorities became too important to Blaster, being everyone’s friend yet nobody’s person. It sucks so hard.

Which is beautiful kinder for a complicated relationship with Sentinel Prime! Or a messy situationship if either/both parties are too stuck in their own public image to commit.

Overall, a real life Jazz would handle his jealousy in a cool and mature fashion. MY self indulgent tfa Jazz on the other hand is a shaken bottle of soda on the verge of exploding if ONE more person drops him.

At first I was wondering howwww Sentinel would be the cyberninja. But then I remembered about the different sub-categories;

Martial Arts/Ninja (Jazz, Prowl, and Lockdown)

Fencers/Swordfighters/Melee weapon users (Dai Atlas, Drift)

Boxers/Kickboxers/Street fighters (Kick-Off, Sky Garry)

Wrestlers/Sumo wrestlers (Grandus, Motorarm)

I think Sentinel would be in the melee weapon users category. Ooo maybe he was transferred to the Cyberninja Dojo as punishment for what happened on Archa Seven. If they dealt with draft dodgers with Prowl I could see them dealing with him too. Maybe Dai Atlas was more of his teacher since Yoketron’s seems more… ninja-y. This is a good route for Sentinel!! He either confessed the Archa Seven plot was his or Ultra Magnus saw through the bs and rightfully punished him too.

Whatever. Sentinel is a cyberninja that learned patience and humility, babyyy!!

Jazz though… I don’t know man. Sentinel is his shield but would Jazz even want that if he is supposed to be the “knightly” one here? MAYBE Yoketron’s death hit him so hard that he wants to seek out vengeance. An eye for an eye, a spark for a spark. Lockdown better watch out.

Wait wait wait. Mayyybe because since Optimus, Sentinel, and Rodimus were all taken out of the running, Ultra Magnus is stuck without a reliable candidate to take up the Magnus Hammer. He has to branch out and find a new guy.

Insert Jazz! He’s a chill guy in the Intelligence unit that pretty much everyone likes to work with. He’a got that hope for the future that Ultra Magnus has been missing. (Why he wanted Optimus to be the next Magnus.) Jazz transferred from the cyberninja corps after Master Yoketron’s murder, giving him new drive to “fight the good fight”.

bla bla bla Jazz gets elevated to Primehood yay he is the second in command! It’s big responsibility that he never thought he’d be able to handle. But at least there’s Sentinel helping him out. And he’s a fellow cyberninja! So that’s cool.

Yeah instead of canon where Sentinel Prime makes a shady deal with Lockdown to bounty some Decepticons, JAZZ gets some personal conflict with Lockdown. He goes rogue to hunt down that bounty hunter even though he REALLY needs (Sentinel)his shield.

The Sentijazz divorce arc is so so good in that it is both like. An action of character growth for Jazz and part of a down-spiral for Sentinel but simultaneously painful for both involved. Sentinel just lost the guy he trusted most on his team (+ the guy who tolerated him the most while still correcting him) meanwhile Jazz doesn’t have to deal with Sentinel meanwhile he’s just joined a brand new team and is also dealing with the sting of watching someone you cared for just…get worse. They’re both definitely bitter about everything and imagining them being a couple before Jazz went off to earth is just OW.

I love love that both of them are kind of getting worse before getting better but you can also see how their current situations also impact how that process goes. Jazz actually has someone to talk with regarding the whole mess, someone who actually understands Sentinel and won’t raise eyebrows when talks about Sentinel’s positive traits and won’t judge them for even being a couple before the break.

Meanwhile, Sentinel has the twins, but at the end of the day, he’s their superior and doesn’t know them well + they’re younger than him. At best they might get an idea of what happened through Sentinel grumbling to himself and his attitude about the matter but unless he gets wasted with them in tow, it’s unlikely they’ll truly get the full picture outside of “Jazz left and Sentinel is super upset about it”.

Between the two of em, Sentinel’s unlikely to really get better until he’s humbled somehow, because until then he’s running on “I’m so cool and everyone’s just jealous!” + “I’ll show them! They’ll be so embarrassed when they’re wrong about how much of hero I am!” So humbling him likely will involve him being ousted from his spot as Magnus, since part of the reason why his issues aren’t being addressed is him covering it up to feel better in an endless cycling of fumbling. If he hits rock bottom, it might stand to break said cycle and it might let him properly process things, though he also definitely will need time to lick his wounds first. After that? I think once he shows genuine change there’s chance for them to get back together.

However…I do also think it’s important to bring up the angsty elephant in the room of the issues they will have to work on as a couple. Jazz leaving isn’t a bad thing if it’s just ur shitty boss, but if you take him just leaving through the portal as him essentially ghosting Sentinel for a bit? Hoooo boy. Unfortunately for cool guy Jazz he will be needing to talk about his feelings here for things to get better because ghosting your boyfriend is not productive. And Sentinel is also just. Oof. I can see him genuinely working to be better for Jazz and it being great, but I think he’s going to develop a bit of a perfectionist issue because of the time period when Jazz left. Definitely has worries he’s going to fuck everything up and Jazz will leave again. So he’s gotta be better (than Optimus) right?

Throwing Optimus in the middle of sentijazz divorce is so so messy because he is unwillingly the center of both sides of jealousy.

Obv we know Sentinel is jealous of Optimus ya ya ya just watch the show. He would be so so jelly thinking about Jazz getting closer to OP. Oh yayyy everybody just LOVES Optimus! Maintenance Prime that ruins everything around him like Elita’s death, Magnus preferring Optimus over his deserving self, losing Jazz! Oh yeah he def misconstrues Jazz’s ghosting to be Optimus’ fault. It’s easier to blame Optimus for every bad thing in his life.

And it erases the importance Jazz had by sorta stripping his autonomy. Like noooo Jazz didn’t choose to ditch him without a warning because he’s awful! No no no, Optimus made Jazz leave with his loser bad luck energy. Sentinel isn’t pissy at Jazz personally because that would be admitting that he meant a lot to him. Which he doesn’t! Certainly not anymore!

… what a terrible way to cope, man. ONTO JAZZ.

Omg and apparently when Sentinel was stuck as just a head he called Optimus for backup. OPTIMUS! And not his boyfriend… oh yeah Jazz absolutely finds out and is not happy about it in the slightest.

and he BOTTLES IT UP, babyyy! Haha probably not. But could you imagine? Jazz pretending that he isn’t bothered by it now that they’re broken up. Or trying to rush the grieving process so he can enjoy his time on Earth. Throwing himself in indulgences and music and dance and drinking motor oil and partying with friends and street racing fighting decepticons and human villains and and and…

Jazz wants to be free but he just can’t. Not while he feels stuck on the bridge that he burned.

Tips for Writing Trauma!

i love you all and i need you to stop writing trauma as a single breakdown scene in the rain after which the character is Healed and Ready to Love Again. that is NOT trauma :(

⊹ Trauma doesn't announce itself. it shows up as your character suddenly not being able to eat a specific food, or going very quiet in a loud room, or laughing at the wrong moment because their nervous system decided that was the appropriate response. it's mundane and weird and it makes no sense from the outside. the dramatic flashback sequence is the least realistic part. the most realistic part is your character suddenly needing to leave a grocery store for a reason they can't articulate.

⊹ The body keeps score and it keeps it in the strangest places. a particular smell. the quality of light at a certain time of day. a tone of voice that sounds like someone who hurt them. your traumatised character doesn't think "this reminds me of the bad thing." their heart rate spikes and they don't know why. they feel wrong and they can't locate the feeling. they're irritable for three days and only later, if ever, do they make the connection. write the disconnection. it's more honest.

⊹ trauma also does not make people universally sympathetic and wise. it makes some people controlling. some people funny at inappropriate times. some people very good in a crisis and completely unable to handle a normal day. some people are generously kind to strangers and absolutely terrible to people they love. trauma shapes behaviour in contradictory, inconvenient ways that don't resolve into a lesson. your traumatised character can be difficult to like. that's not a flaw in the writing. that's the WRITING.

⊹ Healing is not linear and it is not a destination. your character does not get better and stay better. they have a good month and then something small undoes two years of progress and they have to start again with slightly more tools than before. that's the actual shape of it. the spiral, not the arc. the scene where they finally open up and cry is not the end. it might not even be progress. sometimes it just means they were tired that night.
