Traditional czech sourdough bread, called Šumava. It's made with rye and wheat flour, and has caraway seeds in it. It works with pretty much anything, we even occasionally substitute it for soda bread when we have Irish breakfast. Flowering kale, at this point there's little else to look forward to but brassicas and beet roots in our garden. This is a hybrid named peacock, and should get pink in the middle when it's cold enough. Had a very productive day yesterday, harvested our own quinoa, made some apple sauce, and many wholegrain muffins from buckwheat, spelt, oats, aqua faba, cinnamon and some of the apple sauce. There was also paella, and the martian in the cinema. Brownie and pretend coffee for breakfast. The brownie uses some courgette from our current glut, and the coffee substitute is from barley, rye and chicory. Apricot dumplings, another traditional czech thing not found anywhere else i've been to. Usually served with melted butter or curd and sugar, but we went with stewed forest berries. They also come stuffed with strawberries and plums. We usually make them from strawberries but we got a bunch of home grown apricots that needed to be used.

Tree spinach. This stuff has been growing like crazy for us. It's all self seeded and probably the most prolific thing in the garden at this point. We mostly use it as we would spinach in salads and wraps and so on, but it's much prettier.
