Holy Jack Bauer, Batman!

If you were trying to figure out what major US city Jack Bauer might save in a future 24 miniseries the answer could very well be Gotham or Metropolis (Of course Batman and Superman would have to be on vacation). These two famous comic book cities exist in the same world where we celebrate our great first African American POTUS - David Palmer.

Let me explain, after Bane has threatened to blow up Gotham with a Nuclear Bomb the President of the United States gives a public address to calm citizens of the US down. That President turns out to be former Secretary of Defense James Heller, Jacks on time almost father-in-law.

Now the implications of this are just super fun to think about? For instance Superman is pretty selfish to let that bomb go off in Southern California. Was Bruce Wayne a big contributor to the Charles Logan campaign? I mean we saw what that did for Harvey Dent. And finally, how long does it take Lucius Fox to seduce Chole when they inevitably meet, 10 minutes?

Aaron Paul is slowly dying inside: Why do we treat celebrities like pieces of meat?

"You´re a monkey, Derek! Dance, monkey…” - Zoolander Last night I went to a fan screening of the new movie Need for Speed* featuring a Q&A with the star of the movie Aaron Paul. From the moment Aaron Paul introduced the movie and was forced by the audience to yell “Yeah, Bitch” his signature catchphrase from Breaking Bad I realized I felt super dirty. This feeling bubbled up more as fans shouted the saying during the screening of the movie and it reached an apex as a fan asked the following question “Why didn’t you say Bitch in the movie?” *Twitter Review: Crazy action, super funny, frustratingly obvious/implausible. It was at this moment I started to feel bad** for Aaron Paul and realized I don’t understand the infatuation we have with celebrities. ** Not too bad, he’s young, rich and full of sugar! Why do grown woman talk about their “real love” for Justin Timberlake? Why do we think it’s ok to interrupt a celebrity when he’s taking his kids to school? Or when she’s waiting for a friend at a comedy show? As a society most of us just lack common human decency when we see celebrities. It is more important to us that we get 20 likes on the picture we post to Facebook than respecting a person’s space. Personally one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is running into celebrities on the streets. Anthony Bourdain, Natasha Lyonne, Tyson Chandler & that A-hole reporter from Season 5 of The Wire are proud feathers in my cap. But I always do my best to avoid interrupting their life because I think about how annoyed I’d be if someone stopped me on the street for a picture*** ***Not so fast my friend! I’m not perfect, Lee Corso can attest to that. But back to Aaron Paul, I know that this Q&A was part of his of job (a carefully designed marketing activity designed to drive positive word of mouth). I mean he was literally inviting people to come****. But for some reason as he left the screening with multiple theater employees in tow as body guards I just felt sadness for him. ****Full disclosure I went to this event mostly to see him in person and contemplated asking some of the silly questions others asked so I am truly no better than people I railed against. In the end I guess I just expected more from people. I was hoping for a more detailed discussion about the movie’s successes and short comings but all I got was half hearted “Yeah, Bitch!”

The Ten Movies of Christmas Break

I saw 10 movies for the first time (6 in theaters and 4 on Netflix) this Christmas break. The following are micro reviews and rankings of all 10 movies I saw:

1. Her – Beautiful, tragic and oddly hilarious 1a. Wolf of Wall Street- Best scene of movie was improvised! Amazing physical humor and a kid from HS dad is the Jonah Hill character (what?) 3. Love Actually – Move over Home Alone, there is a new favorite Christmas Movie in town. 4. American Hustle – Laugh out loud funny though 20 minutes too long. 5. Frozen – Clever and heart warming (no pun intended) 6. Warm Bodies – Wildly exceeded my expectations 7. Primer – Super technical, fun and mind blowing 8. Secret Life of Walter Mitty – Ben Stiller has a beautiful eye. Best midlife crisis ever. Saw too much in the preview, a little mystery would have been nice. 9. Room 237 – Like watching a Reddit thread 10. Anchorman 2 – Rinse and repeat of Anchorman (in a great way)

I would like to thank my parents for the AMC giftcard and my sister for her Netflix password, without you this wouldn't have been possible (actually this would have been possible just WAY more expensive).
