Okay not to get controversial on main but like…. Can Cis people stop telling trans Harry Potter fans what they can and can not do?

Like seriously I’ve seen three different cis people on my dash today tell trans people that they are bad trans people for liking and interacting with FAN Harry Potter content and just like… no. Y’all don’t get to say that. Don’t make this issue about how you are better than some trans person who draws HP fanart or writes HP fanfiction.

I didn’t even like Harry Potter but what y’all are doing is still shitty as fuck. I’m not saying go out and buy the books or go watch the movies but I am saying that people need to stay in their lane.

“But fan content gives it a platform!” I hear you cry and if you don’t want HP fan content on your dash then I respect that. I also understand that fan content does technically ‘give it a platform’ but can we all remember that HP is the second most sold book in the world. (Number 1 being the LITERAL BIBLE) Harry Potter IS pop culture and some fanfictions on AO3 aren’t making a DENT in its numbers.

If trans writers and artist want to go reclaim Harry Potter then I fucking encourage them too. Draw Harry with Top surgery scars! Write fanfiction about a cool nonbinary defeating the dark lord! Make JK Rowling uncomfortable with her own damn book because you took her piece of media and made it for yourself.

You can absolutely make media about Harry Potter that doesn’t support or platform Harry Potter. ( Dimension 20 did it REALLY well with Misfits and Magic) And if ANYONE should be able to make that media it should be trans people.

Anyways stop speaking over trans people if you aren’t trans, even if you disagree with how they are handling this. In the end they are the ones being affected by this the most, not you.

It is not great that I am mostly unexcited about trying to get into Tumblr again.

I said I was going to do new social media websites, but they either are so blah or for a specific purpose so still have not signed up for any. I almost joined Instagram even though I said "no" years ago, but I really do dislike Facebook (Meta). I am still thinking about making an account, but it seems doubtful. I don't like TikTok (or the ones trying to be like them) because I find the little short videos very boring. I have only have watched friends/family use it and just went to look up something on someone's TikTok a few times. It NEVER keeps my interest. I know that people find it fun, but it has no real depth. I also have heard problems posting videos/photos, finding stuff, and actually seeing things you follow/interested in.

I want something that is actually interactive rather than just watching and liking a little video clip. I am not interested in buying stuff or trying to stay up to date on the next trend. This shows my age, but I like the vibes of what Twitter and Tumblr used to be. I think I might even sorta even be okay with something similar to Facebook. This is shocking because I say this as someone that almost never posted anything there and just used it to occasionally communicate with friends/acquaintances.

I am on a few Discords and they seem okay, but the lack of some basic features is weird. This is not exclusive to Discord, but a number of social media websites feel like they were created in like 2007. It is almost 2024 and I would have thought that most of these websites would have a bare minimum of features. Facebook or even a generic forum should not be that much more advanced than your website.

Random announcement time: I think I am going to join a bunch of "new" social media websites and see what sticks because I either don't like or never joined the current big ones. I also want to try to get back into Tumblr again for fandoms. Knowing how I am, I am doubtful about me succeeding, but I will still give it a try over the next couple months.

I am looking for a room for LeakyCon Boston for October 10-14.

I am having terrible luck. Every time someone lists an opening and I contact them, they have already found someone else. Sharing a bed is fine with me. I am not picky about roommates as long as people are very quiet while others are sleeping. I would be arriving very late on October 10 and will be as quiet as I possibly can getting into the room.

I would even do floor space as a back up if I don't find a room.
