Headcanon:

Firebenders have to learn wind instruments or singing, to develop their breath (based on Fire Nation students having a music class in "The Headband", Lt. Jee singing and also both Iroh and Zuko playing tsungi horn).

So Ozai played flute (I used dizi as a reference) and hated every single moment.

Post canon Toph who doesn’t want to go back to her shitty parents so she just decides to stay in the Fire Nation and bum off Zuko’s hospitality.

Zuko’s like no, yeah, I totally get it, and just makes her one of his advisors. At first it’s just so she has a good excuse to stay but after the first meeting Toph storms out shouting about how EVERYONE was lying why would you even need to lie about what kind of tea you want??

Zuko: I mean they’re politicians…..but also who, and when, and in what way

They make a subtle Morse code system so Toph can warn him when someone is lying to him without tipping anyone off that she can sense lies.

Zuko gets a reputation for somehow being both extremely socially inept and yet somehow disgustingly perceptive?? You can’t get ANYTHING by him???

One of the most valuable lessons that Zuko taught the gaang during their field trips was to share his skills at breaking and entering.

Lesson 1: if you need to break in to an ancient civilization, watch out for booby traps.

Lesson 2: when breaking in to a maximum security prison, leave your sky bison at home.

Lesson 3: infiltrating a highly trained military unit requires matching outfits.

The real reason Toph never got a field trip is because she doesn't need advice on how to break into places.

I love in actuality how conservative Asami's character design is. She's unquestionably beautiful and her role in the show and comics reflects that she's supposed to be sexy (boo hiss her continued use as a love interest is a different rant), but when you look at her she's not at all projecting femme fatale sex kitten. Her standard design in each season has her completely covered, and not in a leather suit, either. Look at her coat! Asami's special occasion outfits really only show arms. Even her bathing suit has little shorts that go halfway down her thigh. Her nightgown makes Mako look half-dressed.

In fact, with Bolin and Mako's rolled-up sleeves, Asami is consistently the most conservatively dressed of the entire Krew.

What I love about this is that a) Asami's appeal has little to do with tight or scanty outfits, which is honestly refreshing in a female character meant to be pretty, and b) I think it says a lot about her, personally, that someone with unquestionable taste and fashion sense knows she can look good without looking naked. Asami updates her outfit every season in a way the other characters don't, which reinforces she's trend-conscious and cares about her clothing, but it's never to dress sexier. And idk I kind of love this for her. She knows who she is and she knows she's pretty no matter what.

best thing about uncle iroh is that if you pay attention he is actually just as much of an idiot as zuko but has just mastered the art of coming across as a wise old man. the even better thing is that zuko is the only one on the planet who somewhat realizes this and no one would ever believe him because he's zuko

like uncle iroh 100% does dumb shit on purpose sometimes to get people to underestimate him and keep zuko from capturing the avatar, but other times he just, and i cannot emphasize this enough, does impulsive dumb shit for no reason other than the fact that terminal stupid presumably runs in the royal family's blood

once got captured by the earth kingdom army buck ass naked bc he really wanted to go to a hot spring in enemy territory

betrayed zhao at the Northern Water Tribe with no escape plan and then spent 3 weeks starving on a boat

immediately went to a spa resort upon publicly committing treason

ate a poisonous plant and, in the spirit of Two Fish Hook Sokka, was going to solve the problem by eating another potentially poisonous plant

decided the safest place in the world they could go was the city he once FAMOUSLY laid siege to for 600 days

instead of lying low or giving a modicum of a shit about people recognizing him, overachieved himself into becoming one of the most well-known restaurant owners in said city

in fact overachieved so hard that he got an invite to meet the earth king (whose city he, again, once FAMOUSLY LAID SIEGE TO) which he fucking? accepted????

The thing about Zuko taking the lightning for Katara is like. If she dies what is the point? He's promised his uncle he's going to make a better world and that involves stopping his sister but also. This girl who is the last waterbender, who he's watched grow as a bender to become a master in her own right, who represents hope, who believed in him and expected the best of him even when he made mistakes, if she dies what is the point of it all?

ZUTARA WEEK DAY 1

Tradition-

I love all the different clothing in atla, and if Katara were to marry Fire Lord Zuko, I don’t think she’d wear the red robes. I like to think she’d wear something that was a mix of the two nations’ traditional clothing. I wanted to keep the structure more fire nation and the patterns/colors more water tribe. So here is my design for her!
