just went through a rollercoaster of emotions as i found the ig of one of my professors who i hate a bit for being kinda of a dick and generally chuddish. at first my heart kinda melted bc the latest post was a really sweet pic of him in a picnic with his wife and his kids; i thought "aw, i kinda misjudged him. people can be really different in their professional and personal lives, i get it", and then immediately got mentally hit by a semi-truck when i went to his following list (looking for what i actually wanted to find in the first place, if another professor i really respect had an online presence) and saw it was 90% young female insta models. on his public profile with his real full government name, following his workplace's account. what the fuck.

this is absolutely just an outsider's perspective, but it's really sad how reluctance and suspicion often dominate discussions around lesbian motherhood, and how harshly f/f couples who are looking to have children are scrutinized. like, so much of the prevailing rhetoric can only logically resolve to the conservative talking point of "a child's true parents are the biological mother and father who should be together", even if you try to interpret it in good faith.

there's just so much veiled hostility. women who want to be mothers are almost treated as abusers by default who have to prove they will be the most ethical parents who ever lived in order to "earn" the right to be mothers without being treated as monsters. you know damn well straight couples aren't shown 5% of the scrutiny.

you can tell a lot of people who claim to care for the hypothetical child are just straight up homophobic and want to make women give up. "if you choose to adopt you have to have the child's biological parents in their lives or they will be traumatized. if you use a sperm donor he has to be part of the family and be around as much as possible or they will be traumatized. if you do reciprocal ivf only the woman who carries the child will ever be the "true" mother. i'm just trying to help, dyke!"

This morning my heart goes out to the women and girls trying to survive in Sudan 💔

The news I watched interviewed one woman saying almost all the survivors of these massacres are women and girls and on its head that may look something like "men and boys have it worse" because they get insta death but we all know why war criminals actually "spare" females. I can't imagine the torture inflicted to the point that these women and girls are killing themselves to prevent being kept around as potential rape spoils.

The Sudanese crisis has displaced and killed at least double the amount of people in Gaza in 2 years but it doesn't directly involve a colonizer like Isreal so these poor survivors are being forgotten.

Ironically, if MTF theorists didn't go for the angle of male privilege while trying to convince FTMs that being FTM is easier, it would have continued working well. The average TRA genuinely believes that trans women are the most oppressed demographic, so FTMs generally give up a lot of space and power to them anyways and most accept being told they should shut up and listen to trans women more.

Just turns out when you listen to trans women you start noticing they're saying stuff like "I wish trans men would stop using abortion as a weapon" and "you should never believe rape allegations against trans women"

Yes, like, while I did believe that trans women were biologically male, I truly believed TWAW (and that overrid their birth sex) and did a lot of excusing of misogynistic shit that they did or said to me or others (which I never would have done for a man). It took years and years of seeing MTFs, as a demographic, actively undermine feminism, express disgust for actual female bodies, abuse/sexually harass female people, and sympathize openly with rapists and incels for me to conclude that trans women are politically aligned with other males.

I have really understated on this blog how much labor, energy, time, money and love I have given to male trans people. I was a wreck when I realized how many of them blatantly saw me as inferior or stupid, minimized my pain, mocked my body, used me for money or domestic labor or free therapy or sex. A lot of MTFs act like we're just chomping at the bit to TERF out... I definitely wasn't. I wish more than anything that this wasn't all true.

I am so sorry they took advantage of that goodness in you, and shamed you for more than any single person can reasonably give. It really is just a profound cruelty to take shit we literally went through, claim it as theirs, and use it against us. We know how it feels to be vulnerable girls, and I think any of us would go to great lengths to keep others from feeling that way.

A couple months ago I would be horrified at who I am now. It really hurts to look back and realize I was fighting my own liberation.

Nothing illustrates the difference between male and female socialization better than females spending our whole lives sticking up for males who, for the most part, secretly hate us and believe that we're inferior to them.

It's the same as how the majority of women spend tons of energy catering to cishet men who don't see us as equals.

Catering to other people and caring about everyone else's feelings above our own is female socialization. But it's a good thing to care about other people. It means you're a good person who wants to do right by everyone around her, wants to take care of others who she sees as part of her community.

The problem isn't our actions or our support of them. The problem is that males weaponize our caring, take advantage of it, and turn our empathy against us. And they do it in sneaky ways that can take decades for us to learn to recognize.

It's not our fault we couldn't see, when they're the ones who put the wool over our eyes.

related to that last post: i really dislike how butch women are expected by default to "prove" they aren't toxic/a threat by performing emotional and physical labour for pretty much everyone in a disturbing amount of lgbt spaces. this goes double for brown and especially black butches. it really feels like having to atone for gender nonconformity.

love for butches who are as masculine as they are without restricting themselves to the aspects of masculinity you find nonthreatening. respect for butches who are kind of mannish and not "like a man but safer." acknowledgement of butches' humanity as individuals rather than accessories and background characters.

we take pride in our service but don't forget that some of that is because we have to.
