hi! do you have any tips on drawing water?

I’m so sorry anon, I saw this 2 years ago and wanted to reply with a water tutorial but then started working full time instead so I felt like I missed the timing to answer this.Some quick tips!

For a more rendered look, having a base layer with a gradient and then working in more tones of blues works really well with a layer on top adding crisper lines for waves. If I have a character interacting with the water (ex. half submerged) I would draw the character on top. Once I’m finished I would clip a color balance adjustment layer onto the folder to match the colour to the water and then mask out the area that is outside of the water.
