I mean it’s kinda the real life tragedy of love exaggerated, innit? Irl people die young or one person dies old and another person dies even older. At the end of it all someone gets left behind and has to learn how to move on after that. And for the one who dies you know you’re leaving them behind. You know you’re dooming them to moving on and if you believe in an afterlife god only knows how long you’ll be waiting for them on the other side. The tragedy of the immortal loving the mortal takes those feelings we all know about and rips your heart out about it.

A pet rock is a great pet, until you realized its essentially immortal, and you have damned it to an eternity of watching loved ones die.

Two vampires/other immortals that were made immortal roughly around the same time, in the same era, and have known each other for several centuries. Knowing the implications of immortality, both deemed it best to choose a profession that would remain unchanging for time immemorial.
One is like "you fool, the human body will remain unchanging for as long as we can live among human society", and becomes a doctor, and through a combination of meticulous research and pure old-fashioned trial-and-error, becomes the best healer and doctor any place he has settled into, for several generations and false identities. Then germ theory happens, nothing he used to know is valid anymore, and with the knowledge and experience he has, he's suddenly isn't qualified to do basic nursing.
And the other one was like "lmao no I'll just do what makes me happy", starts a pottery business, made hand-crafted pottery for centuries, almost went out of business during the industrialisation but figured out how to go into art, and in the year 2022 is making Oddly Satisfying Tik Tok videos along the lines of "this artist has managed to recreate this mysterious ancient pottery style, and she won't tell anyone how she did it."

What I don't get about stories with societies of vampires in it is that there's societies of vampires. Like, what the fuck could possibly motivate them to do that? I mean, sure, it's practical to ensure that you always have an endless supply of blood to feed on, but that can easily be arranged just by keeping a low profile and letting humanity do their own thing.
Apex predators don't usually do all that much when they're not hunting, preying on something or migrating from one point to another after game. They just chill, play with each other if they're social, maybe play with random sticks if they're not generally a social species. They reproduce to keep themselves going.
What would a species of apex predators that don't need to worry about food sources - which are ample literally anywhere where there's people - or reproduction - because they live forever - be motivated by? Humans were driven to design, build and cultivate in a quest for food, and dedicate their fleeting lives into creating art or science in order to remain in history, or raising children in order to pass on their genome.
Realistically, vampires have no reason at all to organise themselves. Having more than one vampire in the same area means there's competition for easy game or a risk of being exposed (which would lead to game hunting you), so why would they gather? Each one already is immortal in their own right, they wouldn't be motivated to go into politics in order to carve a name for themselves.
An easy, endless life doesn't prompt anybody into doing anything that isn't either fun or necessary for survival. By their very nature, vampires would be stagnant, unsocial, passive and unmotivated creatures.

Character concept: An 8-year-old boy who actually talks like one of those "father I cannot click the book" boomer comic kids, who is actually a vampire/similar immortal who was turned into one as a child. He is actually 68. He tries his best to be inconspicuous but has zero idea how to act like a normal child because he fucking hates children and doesn't want to be anywhere around them.

Vampires that aren't just universally immune to crosses, but abhor the symbols and scriptures of whatever faith they practiced and believed while alive. A determined team of monster hunters are baffled on how to defeat an atheist vampire before discovering that while alive as a human, the vampire was really into stoic philosophy, and decide to give that a try.
The vampire shrieks in torment as they read aloud an excerpt of one of the letters of Epictetus, which delves into the exact way and reasons why seeking to pursue any sort of immortality or an undying name for oneself would make someone a bitch and a coward.
