One like nitpick thing that drives me crazy is when people call Blue Whales the largest whales or the largest living mammals or some shit like that

Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today

The largest animals that have ever existed on earth that we know of. Kind of. I like to entertain the possibility that there are things in the very deepest parts of the world that have lived and died and maybe gone extinct without ever leaving a trace as their fossil records get pulled into the earth as the crust shifts. And the cool thing is we know other species have gotten close to blue whale size, like ichthyosaurs.

Also it's also interesting how we are using "largest" in this context. Because large in this context is a matter of mass. The "longest" known animal is the lions mane jellyfish, which is even longer than a blue whale. And if you count colonial organisms, siphonophores can get even bigger (like, significantly bigger).

And then if you go past normal definitions of animal, you can also include fungal colonies which can grown astronomically bigger still.

So, yeah. Blue whale. Single "largest" animal organism. But life got way freakier than whales to get even bigger. Blue whales represent sort of the cap on size for a single traditional organism. Any bigger and the blood just doesn't work. It's possible you could go bigger under the right circumstances, but you would need to have the animal exist purely in a much more dense atmosphere like the bottom of the ocean... Or you could also do some really weird mass distribution things like the Mola Mola, potentially, but an animal like that would be so incredibly niche for a survival strategy they would have a hard time propagating.
