I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but I really do appreciate that Grace uses basic diy shit to solve complex problems despite having fancy tech/expensive equipment at his disposal the majority of the time (sans computer and biology equipment).
Going to Home Depot and using basic hardware tools to experiment with the astrophage despite having an internationally funded research lab. Bungee cords to navigate through the Mary in 0 g. Duct taping the shit out of individual bulbs for a flashlight despite there most likely being a better technical solution. Putting tape on the clock for Rocky's echolocation instead of using any initial tech.
There's a lot that can be analyzed from this alone, but what I love the most is its depiction of science. You don't need the biggest resources or fancy locations to solve problems and make discoveries: just curiosity, determination, and a lot of fuckin duct tape
