i had a whole talk about this with my sister a while ago and i fully believe horses attract two kinds of people

the exploitative kind do just that, they see horses as a vessel for money, control, and ego boost or whatever possibly else all under the guise of assertive horsemanship its become rampant in the modern dressage scene (dont even get me started on that) but pretty much across any discipline its why we saw the racing industry implement automated track runners so they could train horses en mass or why we saw the FEI rollback on their blood rule

i really hope someday the exploitative kind stop running the show and producing products like that bc i genuinely think they do hate their horses unless theyve fully submitted under them

barrel racers are so god awful and the industry around them does nothing to stop the abuse. It was like NBHA or NBRHA something that had a state or national show nearby where there was a horse that was skin and bones and on a solid concrete floor in his stall with no bedding and the organizers wouldn't even report the animal abuse or disqualify the owner. terrible. these organizations have no problem with abusive owners and are so complicit

Drugging horses with blood pressure medication (so they're less likely to bleed out of their lungs and nose) racing is so normalized in competitive barrel racing that racers think it's cute and funny that outsiders are concerned at all
