when I see you again
Her face ā that smile, that ever present sweet look on her face, that utterly warm sensation that washed over him when she spoke ā Ā was different from the two years since they had last seen each other. But he could still recognize the small details that reminded him of why he had been so enamored with her from the beginning. She was still hiā Theo shoved the thought out of his mind. She wasnāt his anymore.Ā Ever since she had torn his heart out with a few simple words. He had never known why things could crumble with one simple push, until she had stared at him with those eyes, that he could never say no to, and told him that she didnāt love him anymore. He still remembered the crash that echoed in his ears when everything they had built together, every obstacle they had climbed over came tumbling down in one fell swoop.Ā Theo had been a mess for months after she had left. He hadnāt returned to that apartment or his penthouse suite in the Palace since. Every inch reminded him of what it meant to lose something. Something so precious. Maybe he still hoped that one day she would return to their home, to him.Ā In an instance, his face hardened. He forced himself to remember the hours he spent lost and broken in the moments after she had left. Theo arched his eyebrow ā but it wasnāt friendly, it wasnāt flirtatious, it wasnāt good-natured āĀ āFancy seeing you here Grace.ā He couldnāt use her nickname, heĀ couldnāt let himself fall back into that hole,Ā āItād say it was a pleasure, but that would be lying through my teeth.ā Theo smirked (vicious and mean) at her as he threw back his drink,Ā āBut you would know all about lying wouldnāt you.āĀ
Vindictive and mean. Thatās what Theo was. That's what Theo always was and Grace was very much aware of that. Bad or not, a good amount of times even she enjoyed the way Theo could twist his words in a way that stroke like a sharp knife into the stomach for the recipient. But she was never on the recieving end of it, not even on that last conversation when she lied to him about her feelings - she took off before she could give him a chance to say anything. Or before she could break down in tears and convince that she didn't mean any of her words.
It's not that she didn't expect him to be like this --she simply didn't expect to run into him. Ever again. Grace still felt her stomach drop at the coldness of his voice, at how much hate and disgust was behind each word. It's all your own fault, you wanted this, she told herself and she forced herself to smile. She told him she didn't love him anymore. If she broke off the relationship because she have any feelings for him, she shouldn't look like she just saw a fucking ghost from her past.
She wanted to be an actress, right? If she couldn't act that she doesn't give two shits about this meeting, she would never become an actress, unless she wanted to go into pornography. And she never planned on becoming that desperate.
"Look, I know I shouldn't have said I liked that blue tux if yours, but you just loved it so much, I didn't want to crush that," she pulled a lock of hair behind her ears, keeping the smile on her face light. Like everything was ok. Like they were twoold buddies, joking about a couple of nice memories. When in face she knew exactly what he meant by that last line, just as she knew how much he wouldn't like her reaction. But the choice was made way too long ago to go back on it now.
"Anyway, I haven't seen you in --what was it, two years, right? Maybe a little bit less than that. How are you doing now?"
