I’m so excited about taking part in a zine, and such an awesome one at that!!
📖 Ed is the Ruler of the Ocean. He came from land but seas were his escape, and when he became the supernatural lord of the ocean he never wished to look back. The land reminded Ed of the unhealed wounds inside him.
Once upon a time he met a man who dreamed of being a pirate. In the end it turned out the man, Stede, just longed for life to be different. He wanted to escape the land and find solace in saltwater, just like Ed once has.
They fell in love soon. In the end they found a place to be their escape, their sanctuary - an abandoned lighthouse.
Only Stede moved into the lighthouse, but it was home for both of them. Ed was still bound to the ocean, but he visited the lighthouse whenever he could. As a sign of his devotion and to make sure he never forgets to come back no matter how far he is, he cut out his heart and left it home. He put it in a box which only Stede has the key to, always hanging around his neck.
To be fair, Stede thought it’s a bit extreme and freaked out, but it is just how magic is sometimes so he came to terms with it. 📖
The concept of the Alternate Universe of the piece is actually just something I came up with, I haven’t written anything bigger about it but I do invite others to do that - I’ve only ever written a one-shot. The inspiration for this AU was of course Pirates of the Caribbean.
I’ve put a lot of time and love into it and the zine is also full of many amazing pieces people have put a lot of love into so consider checking it out!
I’ve actually looked into the history of lighthouses and how they looked during the Golden Age of Piracy. And the key is inspired by ancient Roman keys.
