WHOEVER CLAIMED THAT money could not buy happiness was not entirely wrong --- but they were not entirely right either. it took more than pretty little things to feel content and fulfilled, but the dresses that she was about to buy definitely made her feel better. catriona just tried a stunning red dress when she made eye contact with a somewhat familiar blonde and she gave her a light smile. georgina van buren. a name that was plastered all over gossip girl right now. ❛ hey. ❜ she greeted, just to be polite, but cat couldn’t help herself. she had to add something else. ❛ i hear congratulations are in order. genevieve is pregnant and you and cas are dating? ❜ a lot of things happened in her absence ; it was insane, but she was relieved that her family seemed to be off the radar. ❛ i have to say i didn’t see it coming, but... i think it’s wonderful. ❜

IT WAS NOT REALLY like her to show up unannounced, but catriona felt like the conversation was overdue. she never really got to thank giulia for her rescuing mission on new year’s and - worse than that - she never got to be the friend that she decided to be after that night came to an end either. instead of wasting anyone’s time with calls, the princess grabbed two bottles of wine that she bought in monaco and hoped that giulia would be fine with her plans for the day. plans that involved some alcohol and long conversations. her lips curled into a small smile as soon as she faced the female at her place and she wiggled the bottles in her hands while she mumbled a half-hearted ❛ surprise! ❜. situations like this could make her feel ridiculously shy, after all. ❛ are you busy right now? or do you have a minute for me? ❜

IT WAS GOOD TO BE BACK in new york, but catriona could not pretend that she left her recent trip to monaco behind. her parents were easy to leave ( even if they gave her nightmares for weeks ), but now that she came back she missed her little sister more than words could describe and the temptation to drown her sorrow in alcohol increased by the second --- so she tried to clear her head with a walk in the park. it was strange, but she never struggled as much as she did now ; not even after she buried her older brother. lost in those thoughts, the princess bumped into another person and her shoulders dropped in a small wave of relief when she recognized their face. ❛ hey --- i’m so sorry about that. ❜ she murmured before she tried to muster up the bravest smile. ❛ how’s the new year treating you so far? ❜ other than people running into him, of course.

THERE WAS A TIME catriona refused to read the posts on gossip girl. as a member of a royal family, she could not care less about the blog, but things changed drastically after the disaster on new year’s eve. she began to understand how serious the damage could get and so she forced herself to do something she never wanted to do: she started to read them all. it was the reason why she recognized the male in front of her, but she rolled her eyes at herself once she noticed that she’d been staring at him. ❛ sorry about that. ❜ the female murmured after their eyes met and she laughed at her own silliness before she tried to explain the awkward situation. ❛ you are that guy that wants to train the new york giants, aren’t you? that’s a pretty impressive goal for someone so young. ❜ and very unique as well. most people wanted to do much more comfortable jobs than that.

THERE WERE SOME FAMILIES in new york that were best to be acknowledged --- and the huntleys were one of them, whether catriona liked it or not. it was her job to treat wealthy people with kindness, always keeping an eye on opportunities and alliances that could form, so she did what her parents would want her to do when she spotted the male. she walked over and forced herself to give him a smile, ignoring the fact that it was quite likely that he was not in the mood for a conversation either. so what. her mother and father pressured her worse than ever before when someone informed them that gossip girl knew about émile ; she had to be on her best behavior and even if this conversation ended after a minute, she could say that she tried. ❛ hi. i am surprised to see you here. gossip girl has been so quiet, i almost thought you left new york. until the date thing, of course. ❜

Conrad could barely feel any part of himself. The flashing lights of the club, pink and green and blue and red, reflected off his skin and eyes, making it impossible to see who was actually around him. There was no end to the high he was feeling, and he didn’t even know what he’d took. The pretty girl had only said it was new, and was so good he’d never want it to stop. That had been more than enough for him to buy a handful of pills off of her and pop one in. She was one of the usuals at that specific club, and could be trusted. He’d downed one with a shot of tequila, accepting the high gratefully after about forty minutes of dancing around,drunk, with his fellow comrades. He didn’t even take note of the familar face. But they were there in the crowd, watching him practically loose his mind as he moved his body to the beat of the music. He was an alright dancer, perhaps not great, but no one else seemed to care. They were all too high to give a shit, and that was one of the things that he loved about drugs. They made everyone so much damn nicer. Finally, he spotted the familar face. He stumbled over to them, a lazy grin on his features. “Well, well, well. You come looking for me? That’s cute, you know.”

IT WAS RARE to find catriona at a club --- and it was even rarer to find her consuming anything other than water or soda, but her recent return from monaco got her into a mood ; and it wasn’t a good one. the alcohol helped and while she tried her hardest not to pop any pills... they helped as well. amber eyes wandered to the male when he approached her and she gave him a light laugh while she tilted her head to the side. ❛ no, that’s not why i am here. i am here to have fun. ❜ if she was capable of having any, that was. ❛ why? do you think someone should come looking for you? ❜ he looked like he was quite out of it, after all.

TRUTH BE TOLD although it was his duty as a monarch to represent and his family, most notably their charity work, ralphael did enjoy knowing all his family’s money and resources were going to a good cause, but, watching this stuffy, uptight, and pompous businessman speak was truly getting to him, as ralph could just tell he didn’t care about this WORTHY cause. he soon slipped away from his two personal security officers, feigning an excuse to use the restroom. he wandered the halls of the estate endlessly until he found a secluded enough space, someones office equipped with lounge chairs, and an impeccable view of manhattan. ❝ gracias a dios, ❞ he mused, thanking the lord in his native tongue for a moment away from the boring atmosphere. he pulled out his golden flask, holding his crown as he tilted his head back getting ready to take a swig, he froze in his place instantly and tensed up as the door slammed shut, he turned around slowly, now struck with fear, he attempted to bargain, charmingly too. ❝ want a swig ? i won’t tell if you won’t. ❞

THE PRINCESS WAS HAPPY to return from monaco - the upper east side would always feel more like home to her - but she wasn’t happy to attend this small meeting. politics simply weren’t her thing and she was starting to fear that it would never change. it was the reason why she attempted to get away from everyone for a little while and she sighed in frustration after she slammed the door shut, but she froze in surprise when she noticed that she wasn’t alone. how wonderful. catriona’s lips parted and she was about to apologize when she heard his offer. one that she couldn’t decline, not now. ❛ alright. ❜ she mumbled while she stepped forward, quickly stealing the flask to him to bring it to her lips. ❛ i am sorry about the disturbance though. i was told that this room would be unoccupied. ❜

nikolai leans down to pick up his phone when he makes eye contact with her – and notices her book. he loves fitzgerald. immediately, he’s less inclined to brush her off entirely. “absolutely,” he laughs, “my deadbeat father’s fucked off to who knows where, and…taking care of his affairs is about as easy as you’d expect.” much like catriona, he’s not ready to take over the kingdom for his family, but he’s being pushed into it.

IT WASN’T DIFFICULT to imagine how he felt right now. following your parents’ footsteps could be horrible, especially when you simply weren’t like them. ❛ i see. ❜ cat mumbled. ❛ i don’t know if it’s supposed to be easy, but if it frustrates you enough to throw your phone away... it must be really bad. is there anything i can do to help? ❜

IT WASN’T THE FIRST TIME that someone made an assumption like that, but what was she supposed to do? weekly manicures and overly expensive dresses were a part of her job description as the future queen of monaco --- she couldn’t change that, but it did not mean that she couldn’t get her hands dirty. ❛ i would be happy to help. ❜ catriona repeated in a polite and determined tone. she owned more dresses than she could wear and her ‘pretty nails’ could be fixed in less than thirty minutes. ❛ just tell me what you need me to do. ❜ even if she simply wanted her to call someone else to help fix the car.

it had been a whirlwind since the new year – from finding out his future wife was pregnant to getting into an unprecedented fight with his ex’s brother, he’d been facing the repercussions for a while. his mother wasn’t exactly happy with any of it. all of it distracted him from the work he was meant to be doing and the board members were losing confidence in his ability. he left his office in a bit of a mess, hair disheveled, tie off-kilter. “no, armand – i understand there’s a risk involved, but we have to – don’t hang up on me, i said –” in anger, he throws his phone to the ground, hearing the crunch of the screen shattering. fuck.

CATRIONA SAT ON A BENCH, focusing on the book in her hands when the crunch of splitting glass pulled her out of the pages and back into the moment. oh. she glanced over at the male and shoved the copy of the great gatsby into her bag before she got up and reached for his phone, so she could return it to him. ❛ bad day? ❜ that much seemed to be obvious, but there was more to her question than a lame remark. it was a silent offer to listen as well.
