Hello, It's @svt-essie here. Welcome to OHMYK-FICS!
Here you will find reader fics for kpop and kdramas! I started this for fic ideas I have that won't fit into my Essie-verse and that are inspired by k-dramas.
A few things to know:
♡︎ this is a smut free blog! There may be some mature content (suggestive, violence, mental health etc) but no smut! I want to keep it to at least PG/16+. It's not because I don't like it and I have no issue with it, I just don't want to write it.
♡︎ While this is a readers fic account, I will be using images for aesthetics and to set the scene essentially. It will have nothing to do with race, weight, height, and all that.
♡︎ Requests are OPEN. Request guidelines below.
♡︎ Updates will be slow as @svt-essie is my main account.

Y/N sighs in boredom as she half-listens to her father lecture the class about the significance of a novel's first sentence. It's all the same words she's heard countless times since the moment Heo Mun-oh found out it was little stories she liked to write in the notebook she carried almost everywhere with her.
It was not long after Y/N had been adopted that the professor had snooped through the little green journal she held on to like it was a lifeline. His curiosity had gotten the better of him as he watched her scribble down words as she sat at the coffee table one morning totally immersed in whatever she was writing. He waited until she had fallen asleep that night before snatching up the book and reading through it.
That night the first story Mun-oh read was about a girl trapped in a terrible place, but she met a boy who helped her escape only for them to be found and separated, with the girl being sent to another horrible place while the boy remained in their original place but promised that they would be reunited one day. The next story was her being rescued by a kind woman who offered her a love she had never known, a mother's love. He read until he got to her latest story of the girl reuniting with the boy from her first story. Her writing, even for a 7-year-old, had a good blend of fiction and reality.
In that moment, the one-time published author got it into his head that he had found his protégé, someone who he could shape and mold into a great author. He became obsessed with making her his successor, not for her own success but for his own validation. Not as the father of a well-established author, one of the greatest in South Korea, maybe even the world, but as her mentor, the one who had crafted her into the writer she would become. Unfortunately for him, by the time Y/N had entered high school, she had grown a distaste for creative writing and a resentment towards the man who she struggled to call "dad," all because of his obsession with making her into the person he failed to become and a version of himself that he didn't hate.
"The moment the first sentence is written, the author finally takes their first step into their story," Y/N hears Mun-oh speak to the class. Words she's heard more than a hundred times since being in the care of the professor and his wife. He lets out a sigh, a hand on his hip, his other hand waving a pen around as he speaks. "Listen to this sentence—how happy I am that I am gone! My dear friend, what a thing is the heart of man!" he quotes from --- as he looks out at the classroom. His eyes meet Y/N's as he asks the students, "Anyone know which novel's first sentence this is?"
Y/N knew the answer but made no effort to raise her hand to answer. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing he's the one who taught it to her as she focuses back on her laptop screen.
"No one?" Mun-oh asks, looking around at the students, as no one else tried to answer, making it known they didn't know it or they just didn't care.
The professor lets out another sigh. He goes to answer his own question when he's cut off by Se-yun's phone playing music, causing a slight disruption as the students around them find it amusing. Y/N, who's sitting next to her friend, nudges her shoulder against his, an eyebrow raised and a faint smirk on her lips as he looks at her before looking to the professor, feeling slightly embarrassed. He apologizes as Mun-oh appears to be at his wit's end with the class but regains his composure as he looks to the side and out the window.
"That was the first sentence of Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther," Mun-oh tells them, his apathy wearing thinner by the minute. "As you all will know, it's written in the form of letters sent by Werther to his friend Albert... Are my classes a joke to you?" He continues, cutting himself off from explaining the concept of Goethe's novel that he had quoted, seemingly having reached the end of his wits, his composure losing its battle. "Are my classes a joke to you?" He asks, looking back at the class, hints of anger in his tone. His eyes land on Y/N before settling on Se-yun. "Am I a joke to you?"
Se-yun avoids eye contact with him until he orders him, his voice rising with each command to get up and get out. Y/N glares at her dad, ready to defend her friend when another voice cuts in, cutting through the room that was starting to become thick with tension.
"It's not Albert, it's Wilhelm."
Some of the students turn to look towards who had spoken, including Y/N, whose eyes widen in surprise. Sitting in the last row, near the windows, is Lee Kang, the young man she met in the library and had seen at the convenience store less than a week ago. She hadn't noticed him in this class before, but then again, she never really paid attention to who came in and out of the lecture hall.
"Werther's friend is Wilhelm," Kang corrects Mun-oh. "Albert is the fiancée of Lotte, the woman Werther loves." He looks from the professor, his eyes connecting with Y/N's before he looks away, staring at nothing in particular with a faint hint of amusement on his face. "The object of Werther's jealousy, admiration, and inferiority complex."
The students around them exchanged glances as they fell into an awkward silence. Mun-oh's face turned a shade darker, the flush of embarrassment mingling with anger as he processed Kang's correction.
"But," he continues, a soft smile gracing his lips as he rests his elbows on the desk, his lifted hands clasped together in front of him as he looks towards the front of the room again, "in the sense that all of those things are part of the friendship," he pauses, letting out a huff of amusement before saying, "I guess you could say they were friends. The object of his envy," he continues, picking up the bottle of water beside his laptop, "and yet, his friend."
The class lets out impressed sounds while Professor Heo becomes speechless and looks as though his mind is somewhere else. Y/N felt her heart race, a mixture of admiration and disbelief settling in her chest. The casual confidence that he spoke with captivated her. It was as if he were speaking facts, which he was because he was right, but also like he knew something that no one else knew, that maybe fiction was indeed playing out in reality when it came to one man's love for another man's woman.
With that, the class was dismissed, and the students started leaving the classroom after handing in their latest papers, chatting amongst themselves about what had just happened. Y/N left the room, linking her arm with Se-yun and ignoring her father when he tried to talk to her.
"Hey, thank you," Se-yun says in English as he approaches Kang, who just exited the lecture room. He throws his arm around the taller man's shoulders as they walk down the hall, Y/N trailing behind them as she continues to try to wrap her head around what just happened. "You saved me. I almost got cooked. I'll treat you to a nice meal today," he continues as though he's been friends with Kang for years. "What do you want?" He asks before listing foods that cause Y/N's stomach to quietly rumble in hunger.
"Let's get it all," she suggests as she quickens her pace to walk on the other side, Se-yun. Kang looks over at her, a small warm smile breaking across his face. "Fried chicken, pizza, corn dogs, ramen—let's get it all," she groans, lightly pushing her hands flat against her stomach as if trying to stop her hunger pains.
Amused, Kang nods his head in agreement as he looks back at Se-yun.
"If that's what you and the princess want," Se-yun says, giving Y/N a look as he removes his arm from Kang's shoulder. She lightly hits his shoulder in a playful manner.
Kang watches how the two friends interact with each other, a smile on his lips and a look of amusement and maybe a hint of hopefulness mixed in his eyes. He wonders how deep their friendship goes and if they know that their fathers know each other, and if they do, how well do they know the relationship between the failed and the popular authors?
-
"So, you're into literature?" Y/N asks Kang as they sat alone outside the convenience store that night. The store was empty, and he was about to take a break when she joined him, the scene from earlier in the day replaying over and over again in her mind. She had to admit she felt a little satisfaction seeing her father getting schooled to the point of becoming speechless by a student, of all people.
He hums, nodding his head. "What gave it away?"
"Maybe it was the way you stopped my dad from having a complete meltdown in front of the class," she shrugs, taking a sip from her can of Dr. Pepper.
"Professor Heo's your dad?" He asks, feigning surprise. What she doesn't know is that he already knows everything he needed to know about her, about him, and about their dynamic. But she doesn't need to know that yet.
She returns his look of surprise with one on her own, not realizing she had voiced her innermost thoughts out loud. Her gaze drops to her hands, gripping her can of Dr. Pepper. With a hint of bitterness creeping into her voice, she replies softly yet pointedly, "Unfortunately."
The word hangs in the air as a heavy silence falls over them. Kang studies her intently, his eyes tracing the shifts in her demeanor. He sees the way her fingers tighten around the can as if she could find some kind of grounding in the inanimate object. He observes the way her smile fades, and her eyes narrow and darken with a mix of uncertainty, disappointment, and resentment.
Their eyes meet again when she looks back at him, the mask she uses to hide her true feelings slipping back on with a look of amusement in her eyes and a small smirk on her lips. "Not only did you potentially embarrass the professor, but you really helped Se-yun out."
"Are you two..." Kang trails off as if he's trying to find the right word. "...dating?"
"Se-yunnie? Oh, no, definitely not." She vigorously shakes her head no, a little disgusted at the thought of dating the boy that had quickly become like a brother to her. "We kissed once, but it felt wrong and gross. He's my brother in everything but blood."
Kang nods slowly, seemingly lost in thought.
"What about you?" She asks, turning the question back on to him. "Do you have someone? Should I be worried about a jealous girlfriend showing up right now?" She continues, teasing him a little.
"No," he huffs out a chuckle, his eyes meeting hers once again. "You have nothing to worry about," he says and looks at her in a way that makes her wonder if he's not just talking about a potential jealous girlfriend but something deeper.

"I don't even know why I'm taking this stupid class," Heo Y/N mutters to herself while deleting the paragraph she had typed on her laptop. Letting out a huff, she stares at the blank document as if it would help her through her writer's block.
Instead, her mind goes back to two days ago when she got the results from her last assessment submission. Her professor, the man she was supposed to call father, failed her, leaving a note letting her know she got the lowest grade in the class. She knew it was bullshit. She wasn't illiterate like he was trying to make her out to be. In fact, she was above average in literacy, considering she was raised by a man who made it his life's work despite his failings as an author. What it came down to was that the man resented her just as much as she resented him. But unlike her, Heo Mun-Oh was using her for his own gain.
"Are you okay?" A soft whisper came from across the table she was sitting at, tucked away in the corner of the library.
Y/N looks up, surprised, having not heard anyone sitting down across from her. She finds a young man around her age with short, tousled black hair and deep brown eyes that are fixed on her with a piercing intensity. He was sitting there, his laptop open with the glow from the screen illuminating his features. The young woman can't help but think he is handsome, not in a popular, model, or idol kind of way but in a dark and mysterious way. Or maybe that was just her mother's therapy observation skills rubbing off on her.
"You look like you want to throw your laptop out the window.” His voice laced with a hint of amusement as he gestures towards the device at the center of her frustration.
"More like the whole class," she replies, letting a bitter smile slip onto her face as she looks from him back to the blank document on her screen.
His eyebrows rise in genuine curiosity. "Is it that bad?"
Y/N hesitates for a moment. She was not the kind to confide in a complete stranger. However, there was something in his eyes that made her want to. Maybe it was a willingness to listen to whatever she had to say.
"Bad enough that I'm questioning why I agreed to take this stupid literature class," she answers, her mind drifting back to how her father continuously hounded her to take the class he was teaching in hopes of creating his protégé. Y/N knew it was all for Mun-Oh's own ego and not her success.
"Did you not want to?" he asked. "You don't like literature?"
"It's not that I don't like it," she answers truthfully. "I like reading, and I like to write mindless nonsense as a hobby, but I didn't—" She's interrupted by her phone vibrating on the table beside her laptop. Her mom's contact photo lights up the screen.
The young man chooses this moment to close his laptop and pack up his stuff into his backpack while she stares at her phone, debating if she should answer her mother's incoming call or not. She’s not in the mood to engage in yet another round of her mother’s well-meaning psychoanalysis talk, especially if her father is involved.
After standing there for a moment, he broke the silence that settled around them by speaking once more. "It's never too late to focus on what you really want to do. You don't have to keep doing something you consider to be a pointless hobby, especially if it's only to fuel someone else's ego."
She looks up from her phone, taken aback by the last part of what he said. It carries an unexpected weight that causes her thoughts to stutter. She meets his gaze, a mixture of surprise and contemplation flickering across her features, as the reality of his statement settles in her mind.
Before she can say anything, he offers her a small smile before walking away. Y/N watches him go, a strange mix of emotions swirling within her.
Looking back at her phone, she notices it's no longer vibrating, and instead of her mother's contact photo, she's met with her screensaver and a notification that she's missed a call.
After gathering her belongings, she steps out of the library and starts the walk to the convenience store only a short distance from her apartment. Scrolling through her missed calls, she comes to the realization most of them are from her mother; a few of them are from friends that had tried to catch her at an inconvenient time, which is rare for them; and one from the children's orphanage on the outskirts of town that she volunteers at a couple times a month. None of them were from her father. Tapping on her mother's latest missed call, she taps the call button and holds the phone to her ear.
"Eomma," she starts when her mother answers with a gentle 'hello' that immediately soothes Y/N's thoughts. "I was in the middle of studying and didn't hear my phone ring," she says, crafting an apology that feels more like an excuse than an honest explanation, knowing full well she was distracted by something that wasn't her studies. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay," comes the reassuring voice of Jo Hyun-suk, her adoptive mother. "I was going to ask if you are still coming for dinner tonight."
"Dinner's tonight?" Y/N asks, pulling her phone away from her ear to glance at the phone and checking the date on the screen. Her heart sinks as she realizes she had completely forgotten that her mom had invited her for dinner a few days ago. After her confrontation with Mun-oh two days earlier, the thought of sitting across from him at the dinner table, acting like he didn't just fail her paper for no reason, made her stomach twist in knots.
"Eomma, I'm sorry," she apologizes again. "I have a last-minute project I have to finish for my photography class," she lied once more, knowing if she told the truth, Hyun-suk would go into therapist mode, whether it be intentional or not. "Let's have lunch together on Saturday, just you and me. I can meet you between 12 and 12:30 pm," she offers as a compromise.
"Don't you have work?" Her mother asks.
"Not until 4pm," the younger woman answers.
"Lunch on Saturday sounds good. I can meet you at the cafe we always go to around 12:30pm. I have some errands to run in the morning," Hyun-suk agrees. Y/N can hear the faint smile on her lips, happy that she still gets to spend time with her daughter this week. "I'll let you get back to your project."
"Mm," Y/N replies with a hum.
"I love you," Hyun-suk says before ending the call.
As Y/N arrives at the convenience store, the familiar jingle of the doorbell announces her arrival. She slips her phone into her pocket and makes her way down one of the aisles to the back of the store where a row of fridges hums softly. Standing in front of one of the fridges that contains all the beer options, it takes her a minute or two to decide what she’s in the mood for. Opening the door, she pulls out one of the cans before closing the door. Just as she turns to go down the snack aisle in search of something to complement her drink, she is startled by a figure looming behind her.
The young man chuckles to himself, an amused expression dancing across his face as he stands there with his hands in his jacket pockets.
"Yah! Kim Se-Yun! You shouldn't sneak up on people like that," she scolds him, though there's no real anger in her voice. Her racing heart takes a moment to settle back into its regular rhythm.
He raises an eyebrow and smirks at her reaction, clearly enjoying this moment. "It's not my fault you startle easily," he responds with a teasing tone. "Are you having a party or something?" He asks jokingly, spotting the single can of beer in her hand, and reaches into the fridge to grab one for himself.
"Pity party for one, I guess," she answers as they move down the snack aisle, picking out something for themselves, before heading to the checkout and paying for their items.
Moving outside, they sit at one of the tables. Y/N opens her beer and takes a sip before opening the bag of chips she bought and starts snacking on them. "What are you doing here?" She asks her friend, curiously. "Shouldn't you be at home cracking some kind of code?" She adds in jest.
"It wasn't working out, so I thought I would go for a walk and get some fresh air," he answers before taking a drink from his can of beer. "I saw you go into the store."
"And decided to jump scare me?" She asks with a playful glare.
"Maybe I was just excited to see you," he replies without missing a beat, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Sure, we'll go with that," Y/N retorts, rolling her eyes but unable to suppress a smirk.
As the two friends talked and joked, Lee Kang arrived at the convenience store to begin his shift. He was about to enter the store when he noticed Y/N sitting at one of the tables with Kim Se-yun. He hesitated for a moment, watching them from a distance. The way Y/N laughed, her shoulders relaxing as she leaned forward to engage with Se-yun, sparked something in him that he couldn't quite put a name to. She seemed happier and more relaxed than she was back at the library. With a sigh, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The familiar ding of the bell pulled Y/N's attention away from Se-yun. She looked towards the store, her eyes finding the young man from the library taking his place behind the counter as the other employee gathered her things to leave.
"Do you know him?" She asks, looking back at Se-yun, and motions towards the store.
Se-yun turns to see who she's talking about. He catches a glimpse of the person, recognizing who it is right away. Turning back to Y/N, he nodded. "He's in my engineering class. His name is Lee Kang," he tells her.
For some reason, the name triggers something in the back of her mind. "Lee Kang," she says, sounding his name out loud as if it would bring forth and unlock a forgotten memory she had stored away years ago, while the words he spoke earlier repeat in her head.
“You don't have to keep doing something you consider to be a pointless hobby, especially if it's only to fuel someone else's ego."

Lee Kang was about to leave the lecture hall but found himself stuck as his gaze became fixed on the scene unfolding in front of him. A young woman, with her brow furrowed, one hand clenched tightly at her side, the other gripping papers of her written assignment, now stood in front of the literature professor, engaged in a one-sided, heated discussion.
As she spoke, Kang could feel the frustration and anger radiating from her, and the professor's indifference to the situation only made it worse. The professor made no attempt to disguise his disinterest in what she had to say. To Kang, it appeared as though the conversation had already reached its conclusion in the professor's mind. He remained stoic, not once looking at her when she slammed the papers onto his desk and turned to leave.
Kang caught the expression in her eyes as she hastily left the room. There was a mix of anger, frustration, sadness, hurt, and an emotion he knew all too well—rejection. He felt something in his chest, something he hasn't felt before. He glanced at the professor, who was now rifling through the papers on his desk before he picked them up and walked into the back room as if the confrontation had been nothing more than a minor distraction.
A smirk crept across his lips as Lee Kang came to the realization that he wasn't alone in his deep resentment towards Professor Heo Mun-ho. And hers just might run deeper than his, her being Heo Y/N, Mun-ho's adopted daughter.

The first sounds Y/N hears as she begins to regain consciousness are the rhythmic beeping of medical equipment monitoring her heart rate and people's voices murmuring in the background. She lets out a slight wince as she opens her eyes. The overwhelming brightness of the hospital emergency department causes her eyes to squint against the harsh glare of her surroundings. It takes a moment for her senses to adjust to the strong smell of antiseptic cream, hospital-grade bleach, and the sterile white ceiling above her.
A flood of confusion rolls over her as she tries to recall how she got to the one place she wanted to avoid more than her dysfunctional household. She finds little ease in the pieces of memories that flood her mind—the abrupt onset of dizziness and disorientation, the headlights coming directly towards her, and the blurry face of the person who pulled her out of the path of the car that wasn’t slowing down.
Her gaze darts around the room, taking in the sight of doctors engaged in discussions as they go over charts and treatment plans, nurses moving from patient to patient, tending to them with a mixed expression of focus and empathy, and family members hovering anxiously at the bedsides of their loved ones. But amidst all the chaotic activity of the emergency room, her eyes landed on a boy slouched in the chair beside her bed. He's still dressed in his school uniform with his head bowed forward and steadily breathing as if he had just fallen into a deep sleep. Y/N doesn't recognize him or his uniform, but for some strange reason there is a sense of familiarity. She wonders if he’s the one who saved her from being hit by the car.
As she studies him more closely, she notices the way his hair falls across his forehead and how his fingers twitch slightly as if he’s dreaming. An unexpected feeling of gratitude comes over her. She opens her mouth to say something, hoping to wake him so she can thank him, but images of her aunt’s cold, expressionless face twisted into pure rage flash in her mind, causing panic to surge through her body.
In an anxiety-induced rush, she fumbles to remove any medical equipment attached to her body, finds, and picks up her bag before running from the hospital, ignoring the shouts and protest of the staff, to find the nearest bus stop.
She is only a short distance from the hospital grounds when she is stopped by fingers encircling her wrist. She spins around to confront the person, her eyes widening when she realizes it's the boy from the hospital. But now she can get a better look at him; a gasp leaves her lips as a memory comes to mind.
Y/N is sitting on the couch, a blanket over her lap, her arms wrapped around her legs as she has her knees pulled to her chest. Her eyes are glued to the TV as she watches one of her all-time favorite K-dramas. Hearing someone enter the living room, she looks up to find her brother, a soft smile on his face as he makes his way over to sit beside her.
‘What are you watching?’ He asks, using his hands to sign the words.
“What do you think?” Y/N says out loud as she signs back to him, a small smirk playing on her lips as he lets out a quiet groan, seeing the familiar drama playing on the screen.
‘Don’t you ever get bored watching this?’ He asks, a teasing look on his face. ‘How many times have you watched it now? 100 times? 1000 times?’
“It’s not my fault it’s become my comfort show,” she replies, turning her head back to the screen with a slight pout. Not even a second later, she turns back to him, tapping his knee to get his attention. She begins to sign again. “I can turn it off if you want to watch something else.”
It was in that moment her brother really looked at her. He saw the sadness in her eyes, the droop in her shoulders, and the smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. Something had happened that day, and she didn’t want to talk about it. Not yet anyway. Instead, he pulled her into his side, giving her shoulders a reassuring squeeze as he watched her favorite comfort show, Twinkling Watermelon, with her.
Y/N felt her legs give out from underneath her, but before her knees could hit the cold, hard, wet footpath, the boy caught her, his grip on her tightening. “Hey, are you okay?”
Her eyes meet his before moving to his name tag pinned to the chest of his blazer. 하이찬
She quickly pushed away from him, shaking her head in disbelief as her eyes met his once again. "You're not real! This isn't real!"
Ha Yi-Chan looks at her with a mix of fear, concern, and confusion. "Maybe I should take you back to the hospital. The doctors are still trying to find out what happened to you."
"I can't go back there," she tells him in a way that makes him think that there is something much deeper to why she ran from the hospital and refuses to go back.
"They'll be able to he—"
She cuts him off, shaking her head. "I'm fine. "I just want to go home," she says, trying to hide the tremble in her voice. He goes to say something else to convince her to go back, but she speaks again with a polite bow. "Thank you for saving me and staying until I woke up."
With that, she turns on her heel and runs to catch the bus that just pulled up outside the bus stop a few feet away.
As she sits on the bus, Y/N's mind continues to race with thoughts, trying to come up with an explanation for what is going on. Did she really just do a W: Two Worlds Apart? It couldn't be possible. No one can dimension hop into a fictional world, let alone a fictional world set almost three decades earlier. So, she must be dreaming, right? Dreaming one of those very realistic dreams that makes you question reality when you wake up kind of dream.
Just as the bus begins to move, she feels someone sitting down in the seat beside her, bringing her out of her thoughts. She looks to her side, her eyes widening again in surprise when she sees Yi-Chan.
Before she can say anything, he looks at her. "You're clearly going through something right now, and I'll feel better once I know you're home safe," he says, his eyes moving to the front of the bus.
"Home," she breathes out, feeling the adrenaline starting to leave her body and exhaustion take over. "I'm not from here," she says quietly, more to herself, as she shrinks in on herself, pulling the cuffs of her hoodie over her hands before wrapping her arms over her stomach. "I have nowhere to go," she adds, hoping he wouldn't hear her.
"You run away or something?" he asks, his eyes not leaving the front of the bus.
"Or something," she mutters under her breath as she looks out the window. The familiar streets flash by outside, but now, they feel and look different. It wasn't real-life, modern-day, 2023. This was fictional, in the past, 1995.
At the fourth stop, Yi-Chan took Y/N's wrist once more and guided her off the bus. "What are you doing?" She asks as he drags her up the street. Her body and mind are too exhausted to do anything.
"You said you have nowhere to go. My halmeoni owns a boarding house. She'll let you stay with us," he assures her and adds, "Even if it's just for tonight," before she has a chance to object.
It didn’t take long for them to arrive at the Snail Boarding House. “Halmeoni!” Yi-Chan calls out to his grandmother as they enter through the gates. “Sorry, I’m late home. I was helping a friend.”
His grandmother walks out of the building, grumbling to herself, but stops when she finds her grandson standing there with a girl. She looks between the two teens, stunned. Yi-Chan had never brought a girl home before.
“Who is this?” She asks, her voice a mix of curiosity and concern as her gaze shifts to the girl, noticing how exhausted she looked.
“This is L/N Y/N,” Yi-Chan replies, his tone firm but gentle. “She needs a place to stay for the night.”
Y/N looks at him, trying to remember if she told him her name. She doesn't think they exchanged names since she only knew his name from his name tag and the countless times she's watched Twinkling Watermelon. Her head starts to spin again as she reminds herself of what is happening.
Yi-Chan's grandmother studies Y/N for a moment and takes in the girl's weary and exhausted expression. “Come in, dear. You look like you could use some rest," she says as she places a warm hand on Y/N's elbow and quickly ushers her inside. "Are you hungry? I can go get you some food."
Y/N hesitates, her stomach rumbling audibly in response. She hasn’t eaten since her school's lunch break, and who knows how long ago that was with her unexpected portal jumping?
"That's all the answer I need." Halmeoni smiles as Y/N feels her cheeks heating up with embarrassment. "Yi-Chan-ah, go put some blankets in the room across from yours. Y/N can stay there tonight," she tells her grandson as she leads Y/N to the kitchen to get her some food.
Yi-Chan does as he’s told for once while Y/N follows Halmeoni into the cozy kitchen. The aroma from the food that was cooked this evening still lingers and causes Y/N’s stomach to grumble out loud once again.
“Have a seat,” Halmeoni instructs gently, gesturing towards a table with cushions around it. Y/N sinks down onto one of the cushions, feeling the weight of her exhaustion settle deeper into her bones. She watches Halmeoni move around the kitchen collecting leftover food for her and Yi-Chan as well as some water and glasses.
“Thank you,” Y/N politely says, the first words she’s said since arriving at the boarding house.
Halmeoni watches her with a kind smile, settling down across from her. “You must have been through quite an ordeal,” she says softly, concern etched in the lines of her face. “But you’re safe here now.”
Y/N pauses hearing her words, looking down at the bowl in front of her. She opens her mouth to say something but quickly closes it again, unable to find the words she needed to make her ordeal seem less crazy than it was. She herself was still trying to grasp everything that had happened. 'I time-traveled into a fictional world without even realizing it' would surely have her locked up in some psych ward or a scheduled appointment with a priest or shaman. Taking a deep breath, she tries to push everything aside and focus on the meal in front of her. Yi-Chan returns shortly after and takes his seat next to Y/N before digging into his own bowl of food.
"Which school do you go to?" Halmeoni asks, wanting to know more about the only girl Yi-Chan has brought home. The fact she has never heard him, or his friends, mentioning Y/N before has her curiosity piqued.
Y/N places her chopsticks down beside her bowl, her appetite no longer an issue. “I don’t go to school here,” she says, unsure of what to say. After all, her school is here, just not in this world.
“She goes to a boarding school, just outside of Seoul,” Yi-Chan lies for her even though he doesn’t know the story himself.
“Then how did you two meet?” Halmeoni continues to question them.
The two teens look at each other as if they were caught in a web of uncertainty. Y/N's heart raced as she searched for an answer, but the truth felt too bizarre to share.
"He saved me from being run over by a car," she answered before he could, sticking to a little of the truth. Something stirred within her, a feeling that she couldn't completely lie to Halmeoni.
Yi-Chan nodded, going along with it.
Halmeoni's eyes widen in surprise. "When did this happen?"
"A... A few months ago," Yi-Chan answered this time with Y/N nodding along. "Halmeoni, enough with the questions," he quickly cuts off his grandmother as she's about to ask something else. "Y/N's had a rough day. Let her rest. You can interrogate her tomorrow."
Y/N's wide eyes turn back to Yi-Chan. "I'll be going back home tomorrow," she says, her voice coming out quiet and unsure. 'Hopefully,' she adds in her mind.
After they finish eating, Yi-Chan shows her to the room she would be staying in before going to help his grandmother to clean up the dishes. In the middle of the room, she finds a sleeping mat laid out with blankets folded up on top of it. Beside the blankets is a pillow, and on top of the pillow is a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt. Staring at the sleeping mat for a moment, Y/N feels thankful for the grandmother and grandson’s hospitality. If it weren't for them, she would be sleeping out on the street even more lost and alone than she already feels.
As she changes out of her uniform and into the clothes Yi-Chan provided, she notices everything in the room looks the same as it did on screen, right down to the smallest details. While watching Twinkling Watermelon, she always wondered what it would be like to stay in a place like this and if it would be as cozy as it looked.
Sighing softly, Y/N kneels beside the mat and unfolds one of the blankets. The fabric is soft against her fingers, bringing back memories of cozy nights spent watching dramas with her brother while binging their favorite snacks.
Laying down, she turns on her side, facing away from the door with the blanket pulled up over her shoulder. An ache settles in her heart as exhaustion takes over. As much as she hoped she was dreaming right now, it was beginning to weigh heavy on her mind that maybe she wasn’t and for some weird, unknown reason she was really stuck inside her favorite drama.
Summary: Y/N passes out in the middle of the street only to wake up in a hospital, a familiar looking boy sitting in the chair beside her bed and with little memory of what happened and how she got there.

Y/N stretches, her arms above her head as she turns her head side to side, relieving the kink in her neck. For the last hour, she’d been hunched over one of the desks in the public library, a small stack of books to her left, a stack of papers to her right, and her laptop in front of her. The 17-year-old had been working on the last part of her assignment for her history class.
Picking up her phone, she goes to check her phone, but the screen is blank and the phone refuses to turn. “Aish,” She groans, glaring at the device as she drops it back onto the desk. Looking at the clock on the wall opposite her, she notices the time. Her eyes widen as panic surges through her.
Ignoring her aching body, she scrambles out of her seat, throwing her belongings back into her backpack and hurries out of the library as though her life depended on it.
As soon as she steps out of the library, it starts pouring with rain. Tilting her head towards the sky, she cusses under her breath with a scowl on her face, her panic turning into annoyance. Unwrapping her uniform cardigan from around her waist, she lifts it over her head like a useless makeshift umbrella and starts running down the street to her home.
As she runs, she thinks about her aunt and the beating she’s about to receive for not being home by curfew. Her aunt is a cold and mean lady in her late 40’s and the only family that Y/N has left. Her older brother died 10 months ago. Their mum died when she was 6 and her brother was 17. Their father left before Y/N turned a year old and hasn’t had anything to do with her since. So, when her brother died, her mean old aunt, who was now living back in Seoul, took over her guardianship despite her clear disdain towards having an adolescent living under her roof. The teenager swears her aunt has no soul.
Y/N is a block away from her home when her ears start to ring loudly, and her head begins spinning as a wave of dizziness comes over her. She tries to quicken her pace, but she comes to a halt in the middle of the road. As she becomes increasingly disorientated and confused, she doesn’t notice the set of headlights coming towards her until the muffled sounds screeching of tires breaks through the ringing in her ears. Her eyes widen in alarm, but her body won’t respond to the impending danger she’s in even though the voice in her head is yelling at her to move.
The car is on the verge of colliding with her when a strong pair of hands grabs her arms and forcefully yanking her out of harm's way. They landed with a thud on the cold wet road, just inches from the screeching tires that echoed through the air
The state she’s in only gets worse as she tries to make out the face of the person who just saved her, but everything was blurring together until it went dark, her body going limp and the ringing in her ears finally coming to an end as she loses herself to darkness
