I have cochlear implants and I can only buy parts to fix them or upgrade then from 1 corporation bc of tech exclusivity. upgrades to get new processors for both ears cost $23k & insurance only covers 90% (and it’s “good” insurance)

I want all the abled people reading this to go price check a power wheel chair.
The future people fear with subscription fees for body parts is already here. The plot of Repo! The Genetic Opera is already here. Disabled people are already facing impossible prices for aids and treatments they need to live.
^^^^ I need five thousand dollars for a manual wheelchair that fits me and which I can push and service myself. Five (5) thousand (5000) dollars. And my insurance won’t cover any of it because in order for them to pay for a wheelchair of any kind, I have to go to THEIR doctor to “prove I really need one”, and they will only cover ONE specific model, which doesn’t fit me. So I’m shit out of luck. And this is on otherwise “very good” insurance.
Also, there is only one (1) self-servicable wheelchair on the market. There are zero (0) power wheelchairs that can be serviced by the end user; they all require proprietary parts and for the company to send you a service technician.
Cyberpunk was not some “what if this happened”, it was just “what if this happened to abled people”.
