Skylar looked at the guy next to her, as she couldn’t help but shoot him a little smile. “Yeah, I know how do you feel” said the blonde, maybe it was not because of the same reason, but she stood up all night reading. “Three calls? God that’s the worst” said Skylar surprised “I have to say that they keep calling me from the same phone company every afternoon, it’s exhausting” nodded the blonde. “Oh, well, my day was good” she nodded “But I really need a nap too, I stayed until 3 am reading and I’m really tired” chuckled the blonde softly.

Flashing a quick smile Alec was pleased to know at least he wasn’t alone in his struggle. “I swear this used to not be a problem but than robo calls became the next big thing.” Everyone had thier own vices and flashbacks that kept them off at night. “It was awful. I wanted to fight all of them.” He half joked. “I can’t imagine it being the same company. That’s just cruel. Are they trying to sell you something?” He asked meeting her eyes from a second. “Are you one of those people who needs a full hour to nap or can you just quickly rest your eyes?”

Even after Alec pulled her into a hug, her body remained stiff and she didn’t relax into the embrace; instead pulling away after a few seconds. “No matter what you say, there is no excuse for not reaching out to me. We live in 2020, Alec. There are so many different ways that you could have got into contact, even if it was just to say that you were alive and okay; and none of those methods are all that time consuming either”.

Feeling how tence Lola was against his body Alec knew this was going to be an uphill battle. Letting out a drawn breath Alec’s eyes fluttered to the back of his head. “I kinda joined a cult.” He said in a hushed tone not wanting to be overheard by anyone around. “I wasn’t really around my phone or a computer. I  honestly wasn’t allowed to reach out to anyone. So no, I couldn't really reach out.”

“Where the fuck did you go, man? You didn’t even send a goodbye text before disappearing off the face of the earth”, Noah complained. “Of course you did, I’m pretty fucking great. I missed you too”.

“If I said a cult would you believe me? It wasn’t my intention to disappear, I just wanted to take a break for a bit.” He sighed.  “How couldn’t I miss your pretty face?”

“Those apps aren’t 100% effective though. At least from what I heard. Hopefully it stops some of them though. I’m good, yeah. How are you? How’s Athena?”

“No, they aren;t but fuck I’ll take anything at this point. I could just start spamming  other people and then maybe it’ll stop. I’m doing well. Ahh.. Atehna actually passed away.”

“No but I’ve only just switched back to an America sim card and phone number so that might be why”, Nikolai said. “How many tasks do you have? Maybe I can help”, he impulsively offered; not really having anything better to do right now.

“I would ask why but that’s not really my business. Do you travel a lot?” He asked not wanting to pry too much. “Well I have to move in to my apartment so whatever task comes with that. If you want to help I won’t say no. I have everything unpacked but ti’s moving shit around.” Although he didn’t know the other, Alec would take any help he could get.

“Of course people noticed. Despite what you may have thought, you actually had a lot of friends here”, Arden told him. “I was referring to your extended absence. We don’t need to talk about that other elephant because I’m guessing that passed a long time ago”.

“I would still argue against that but thank you. I guess, I’m not really one to reach out.” He shrugged. “Why did you never bring it up? Oh yeah, I kinda went to this tech free camp and it was supposed to last a week and ended up staying a lot longer.”

Easton nodded his head in agreement. Alec finding an alarm clock would probably help him sleep in longer instead of having his phone on next to him. It would cause way less annoyance. “I’m sure you’ll be be able to find a cheap one online. I think mine was only like $10 or less.”  Easton couldn’t not have his phone next to him when studying. Although, it really distracted him. “I can’t stand looking at paperwork for too long. It just irks me and gets under my skin. I like to do whatever I enjoy my free time. Studying doesn’t click for me. I need to find a fun way to study.”

No longer falling alssep to his phone screen would probably do a great number on his mental health. Plus having an alarm clock couldn’t harm him. “I mean  $10 won’t break the bank. I think the main thing is knowing that it’s going to work and god knows the cheap ones on amazon will work when you need it. “ Alec had the normal relationship with his phone or what he perceived as normal. “I get that. I’ve had friends and we would make games to study. I get it, especially when I don’t like the subject.”

“It’s okay, it was just a lot of information to digest all at once”, Amber-Jade laughed. “You guess? That’s not very convincing”. The name Alec was familiar to her from her relationships with Lola and Ryan but as neither woman had mentioned Alec Fields arriving back on campus, she just chalked it up to the men sharing a name. “I’m Amber-Jade”.

“I’ll work on my sumation skills. Sounds good?” He joked. “I’ve been called other things but my name is Alec.” At this point he wasn’t entirely sure who , if anyone knew who he was. But this wasn’t the time he wanted to find out. “I think I’ve heard your name before I don’t know where.”

“No, it’s okay,” Ryan assured him. To be completely honest, she’d become pretty used to Alec disappearing every once in a while. “Yeah, we can grab dinner or something,” she agreed. “Well, I’m glad you’re back. I’m sure a lot of people missed you.”

“No, it’s not Ryan. Why are you so willing to forgive me?” Scrunching up his face, his eyes fixed on Ryan for a second. All Alec wanted was for Ryan to help him. “I’d like that. We can go to that place that you love, if you still like it.” He offered. “I strongly doubt that. I probably missed you the most.”

“Are you fucking kidding me right now? You basically disappeared off the face of the earth and refused to return any of my calls and now you want to talk about naps and spam calls?”

Alec diserved all of Lola’s anger. Instead of protesting he pulled his sister into a hug. “Hi Lola, I missed you. I have an explanation. It’s not valid but there is a reason for what I did.”

“Fuck talking about naps and spam calls. I’m more focused on the fact that you’re back on campus… I never thought that I’d see the fucking day!”

“Honestly yeah me too, but hey I’m back here. How are you doing? I fucking misses you.”

“Don’t get me started on those! As a personal rule, I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognise and then search the number after. I’m doing good, how are you, Alec?”

“I know but they still call me. I just bought one of those apps to help prevent that. I’m doing well I can’t complain. Well... I can. How are you Robyn?”

“Realising what, Alec?” Arden asked curiously, feeling like there was something more to this conversation. “I can’t believe that we haven’t seen each other in months and you start the conversation by talking about naps and spam calls. It’s like you’re trying to ignore the elephant in the room”, she teased.

As Arden spoke Alec felt his cheeks turn a darker hue of red. “Yeah, I kinda dropped off the face of the earth. I don’t know I kinda hoped no one would notice. Umm.... Which elephant in the room are you talking about?” Given that it had become public knowledge Alec had a crush on her, he had valid concern.

“You know what fucking sucks? Realizing... Neverminded. I just need a nap. But honestly spam calls fucking suck. I got 3 this morning before 9am. What the fuck is up with that. Anyways, how are you?”

“You’re really good at ignoring my calls, but you pick up for spam callers? I’m just teasing, I’m glad to see you’re okay. I’ve been worried since not hearing from you,” Ryan smiled. “I’m good though. Are you back at Monarch? Or just visiting?”

Alec’s heart stopped once he laid eye on Ryan. “Ryan...I’m sorry. I went through a non tech phase and after that I changed my number. I get tell you about it sometimes, if you still want to talk to me. If not I completely understand.” He said calmly through a smile. “Yes I’m back for good.”

“You know what fucking sucks? Realizing... Neverminded. I just need a nap. But honestly spam calls fucking suck. I got 3 this morning before 9am. What the fuck is up with that. Anyways, how are you?”

“I generally block private and unknown numbers, that tends to do the trick”, Nikolai told him. “Maybe you should try and have a nap now, it seems like you’re in need of some sleep”

“Do you get the whole calls from number where the first  digets match?” Alec asked. “I definitely need sleep but I have a mild to do list to get done. I swear if I live to get these task done then I can sleep.”

Amber-Jade blinked at him, trying to process the fact that he had just flitted from three topics very quickly. “Wow, you didn’t even give me a chance to process one of those things before you had jumped to something else”, Amber-Jade teased. “I’m good, though. How are you? Actually,who are you?”

Furrowing his eyebrows Alec hadn’t even realized that he’d been rameling. “Sorry, I didn’t even realized I had done that.” He paused incase the other wanted to interject .”I’m well I guess, I’m Alec. Who are you?”

“You know what fucking sucks? Realizing... Neverminded. I just need a nap. But honestly spam calls fucking suck. I got 3 this morning before 9am. What the fuck is up with that. Anyways, how are you?”

“You got three spam calls that early? Shit. It looks like somebody really wants your information. I’d have turned my phone off after the first one to be honest.  I don’t like anything or anyone interrupting my sleep schedule. I’m good, man. I tried to study last night - empathises on the word tried because I ended up face timing one of my friends after like an hour or so.”

“I swear I’ve been registered for every type of insurance and the IRS is really on my ass. I should try turning off my phone and just buying an alarm clock. I’m sure I would sleep better. I am a heavy sleeper so I would have to find a good alarm clock. Dude that’s a whole ass mood. I’ve had to hide my phone before to actually study.”
