⚜  ⸻  riley voelkel  .  cis woman  .  she / her  .  if this is goodbye by britton  |  was that  freya mikaelson  walking around mystic falls ? last i heard , the  33/1000+ year old  witch  can be found mostly around  the falls.  makes  you  wonder  what   they’re   up   to .  she is  known  for  being  +KNOWLEDGEABLE ,  but  they  can  still  be  very  - CLOSED OFF  according  to  their  friends. i  heard  through  the  grapevine  that   she fears meeting her family once more. although we can never know for sure when it comes to mystic falls,  in the end,  it could be only rumors, right ?   〉

freya is currently MOSTLY canon to the events in the show(s) before the start of the group.

freya was taken as a child by dahlia. she was linked to dahlia's life force and forced to be dahlia's power bank and personal servant-like. she did see some of the siblings once but didn't say anything. where she varies is two key events. 001. freya woke up alone without dahlia this time. she knows it won't be long until she comes back and is staying for the most part at a safe distance from her siblings... but mystic falls isn't as small as it seems. they'll meet eventually. 002. freya's child was magically removed from her rather than ( that event in the show ) and freya didn't know that he was essentially out there, forgotten by dahlia.

From what he understood, most were in the woods, celebrating something. For a brief moment, he was brought back to the time when he enjoyed himself in those woods. So long ago --- and so much had changed. Elijah was not that man anymore.

With Mystic Falls residents enjoying themselves, he decided to wander the town. Get a feel for it again. He found himself in the town square, wondering what stood there when he was a teenager. Lost in thought, it took him a moment longer than he preferred to realize he was no longer alone.

it's strategic believe it or not. she doesn't wish to reveal herself to the family she was stolen from and yet, she found herself following the specific original. freya had heard stories of him, of their siblings, of their family... stories to her but memories to them. she was without a doubt envious. nikolina's words echo in her mind. a pang fills her heart. this was never her home but that didn't stop the stories or the mocking tone dahlia held when she'd tell her such things. freya struggled to swallow the lump in her throat but finally, for the first time in over a thousand years, freya spoke with a hint of hopefulness. "it's something, isn't it?" it's not beautiful per say but it's something.

freya nodded enthusiastically. "it is. it's like a warm cup of apple cider on a cold night." she admitted before sitting up a little straighter, "toss an extra log on the fire and you get more than you bargained for, but it's not bad." metaphors were outdated on her but the point still stood. she smiled up at her, knowingly. "it's not as final as we've been lead to believe. witches can prolong life, bring life back, create a version of it from nothing... speaking of, i'd like you to imagine what it's like to be a butterfly. the tension of wings flapping to fly, to exist. close your eyes." freya explained before taking her hand and holding it over the butterfly in her other hand. "start from your toes to your very finger tips."

"We are used to being mixed up for one another --- maybe even use it to our advantage every now and then." There was a hint of mischief on her face as she relaxed once more. For a moment, her features showed some confusion at the blonde's answer but she soon understood. Another witch. She couldn't help but smile. "Bonnie," she said quietly. With a quick look around to ensure that no one was paying attention, she held out her palm. A small flame erupted from it before she closed her fist around it. "It's nice to meet you."

she loved the mischievious nature of it. in a way, she longed for that familial shennanigans only family could cause but she's still looking in from a distance, still afraid dahlia would steal another thing from her, just afraid they wouldn't want her... her head shook with amusement. "if i could, i definitely would myself." freya chuckled. her eyes sparkle with a delight the other might recognize. "it's a pleasure to meet you bonnie you have no idea how much it's nice to find another one of us. i was afraid it was mostly dogs and leeches." not to be derogatory specifically but if she mentioned vampires and werewolves amongst the crowd, someone might over hear. "especially another bennett. i knew one, once. she was kind to me."

"oh i knew it felt kind of squishy. i apologize. it's dark here and i can barely see my way." emery literally didn't know he was stepping on her foot until she said something. he quickly takes his foot off of hers and moves back slightly to give them space. "i hope i didn't hurt you too badly. my feet .... they're big."

well there's that. freya was on edge but it wasn't the guy's fault. she's used to expecting attacks whether it's from dahlia or one of her enemies. to know he wasn't doing it on purpose relaxed her, sort of. "well you know what they say about big feet," freya spoke calmly, shaking her now free foot. "doubt it's true though. your head seems normal sized."

"i'd love to hear a story. i'm sure you've had so much fun with it at times," freya remarked with amusement in her voice. she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, eyes glancing around briefly before back to the other. "it's nice to meet you bonnie. i like you already. your energy is very quelling in a place like this."

she's already been called out for her fear of meeting her siblings and yet she couldn't bring herself to leave. maybe she wants to introduce herself to at least one - so she's standing there against a tree, eyes browsing the crowd in attempt to find one she thought would take the news better or someone she could at least introduce herself to slowly... too many thoughts arose. in some breaths it seems as if time meshes and blends with each other more than others. in one second she's there in mystic falls and the next, she's experiencing one year on a completely different continent. yet she can't leave. she doesn't want to. her breath hitches in her throat and she tries her best to fix her breathing. it's not one of her siblings she sees in front of her but rather a man she knew once. somewhat, anyway. to see someone through child's eyes wasn't knowing anyone, was it? she didn't know him at all. "enjoying the party?" she wondered after a moment. her eyes don't move but her heart, oh it races.

freya found herself hesitating. when it came to the family she lost and in the same breath never knew, she always hesitated. she thought they were better off without her and if she fell down the rabbit hole of bad thoughts, one that would scream at her would be... if they knew could they help somehow? dahlia took everyone from her. if she asked them for help or let them in, would she lose them again? lose them like she lost her baby and the love of her life? "dahlia has made sure that i will never rely on anyone much less love anyone other than her. besides, centuries without me... they don't need me anymore." in fact they never needed her. they seemed to be existing just fine without her.

her features move into an expression that reveals clear tension. she hadn't necessarily thought about such an idea and now that she must, she didn't know what to think. it comes out somewhat easier than the bits and pieces of english she's learned over the years at least. the truth was, she didn't know and the other's expression worried her. "i never made it that far. being awake for such a short time, i've only heard whispers. do you know who has been hunting them?"

TRANSLATION: Are we to stop him or allow him such things? I for one do not wish to be on the side of the great Niklaus Mikaelson, destroyer of cities because he was bored - tack on a man on a mission and Mystic Falls will be leveled.

The blonde had hit the nail right on the head --- no one really wanted to party. They were just going through the motions. The news of the animal attacks had set everyone on edge. Add to that, the sinking feeling that was grabbing Bonnie and threatening to drag her down left her wanting to just crawl in bed instead. "My cousin --- Natasha is my cousin. Don't worry, it happens a lot. Genetics are a crazy thing." She was used to getting mistaken for Natasha and vice versa. "You know her?" An obvious question but she was hoping the blonde would tell her how since she was an unfamiliar face to Bonnie.

freya's lips purse in thought. of course, genetics. that was the most logical explanation right? she'd heard of identical twins but identical cousins? it was a thought she stuck in the back of her mind. "that explains it. for what it's worth, name tags are hard to come by these days." freya joked, hopefully easing any potential tension of being just one more person mistaking the other for someone else. "kindred spirits more than friends, i suppose. birds of a feather flock together." freya hinted, fingers moving to lift the crystal around her neck to reveal a brief otherworldly glow. "i'm freya."

maybe, maybe not. what good would come out of revealing such things? dare she think would they even care? freya had, had plenty of thoughts over it over the years. the only sibling she had actually known personally was finn and wherever he was, she didn't know. "you and i both know why i didn't tell them the first time," freya reminded her though her voice was soft and almost, almost revealing that she had second thoughts. "while i want to roll my eyes and give some boo hoo response, i know they shouldn't be distracted. they're too exposed here and if i remember correctly, there's a vampire hunter with the intent on destroying them also following them." she doesn't know that it's mikael. she doesn't know the truth of all that happened since she's been gone, just that her siblings were the first vampires.

April was in her own head again. She probably knew the dos and donts but some nights she just overthinks. Her fears seem almost magnified in the darkness. The unknown's holy vessel. There was a twitch in her eye before an apologetic bow of sorts. "I'm so sorry. I'm blind without my glasses." She stepped off the foot promptly. "Funny I'm new here too!!! I'm April."

her expression is an undiscernible mix of sarcasm and warmth. she's not sure if she wants to be mean or concerned for the other if they can't realize it's a foot rather than a tree branch - although she could understand seeing as they were in the woods after all. never the less she smiles and gives her foot a shake once it's free. "how are you liking it so far? i find it's nicer where there's streetlights. the woods are just too dark for my taste." freya admitted and both hinted. of course she knew but she couldn't exactly tell others if they didn't. "i'm freya," her voice is softer now. gentle even. "would you like a drink?"

freya glanced at the voice, now distracted from the man who'd been stepping on her foot and for a moment she pauses. it seems like an attempt to come up with a good reason but the truth? "because dear strange whomst i have never met before," freya declares, moving to face her now, "if i start fights with those who are at an unfair advantage, i risk our dear brother and the rest knowing i'm following them. perhaps i give them too much credit. they're far too distracted at the moment."

Klaus eyes lingered, silently watching them before revealing his presents. "Oh . . . please don't stop on my account. " His voice trailed off like a lyrical song, the dark melody washing over the room. The original hybrid leaned against the frame of the corridors. Dark irises planted on the others features. freya was hesitant. who wouldn't be if they were in her shoes? dahlia gone and in the wind, and being so close to those who shared blood but not enough memories? they didn't know how she was and freya found it best to keep it that way. "i was talking about the history of mystic falls but hey, you look old enough. don't suppose you remember the founding do you?" try as she might to stay under the radar, she'd been drinking.

After the week she had had, Bonnie was desperate for a chance to just let loose. She deserved this. Already she had drained a glass, the alcohol settling in her stomach. She reached for another, ignoring the look from the person next to her. "It's a party, right? I thought we were supposed to have fun."

she had approached because at first sight, she knew the other... only by the time she was standing beside her, she realized she did indeed not know her as well as she thought she had. "it is a party," freya agreed with a head nod, "but i don't think a lot of people are in the mood for one. i agree though. i need a drink and you're not natasha like i thought."

"i know i'm new here," freya began with sweetness in her voice. she also knows she's a little behind on the do's and don't's of this century, however, "but is a normal thing for people to step on others feet? because if you haven't noticed it's my foot you're stepping on and not a branch."

freya nodded although she was quiet. it was more so that she was considering her choice words carefully. one year awake and one hundred asleep always meant that she had a game of catch up to play in which she never completed. "some are easier to tell apart from others. i don't often meet people with your strength." some were loud but most were quiet, needing to be eased out. ever since the witch trials, witches were taught to hide even further in fear that they might just be another name lost to time. it was a shame. so many died without knowing the truth of their heritage.

"death is never final. close your eyes and imagine you were a butterfly, flying through the world without care." freya instructed before reaching out to move the other's hand in a way that would collapse around hers and the butterfly like a dome. "imagine warmth starting from the middle, spreading out."
