One headcanon I refuse to let go of is that Taylor's multitasking ability is not a distinct power from her vermikinesis/bug control, nor is it her shard/agent/passenger taking over the mental load. I hold to the belief that she's using her bugs as a distributed network of bonus neurons instead.

At any given time when she's managing multiple groups of bugs across the city, she's also interfacing with TONS of less mobile insects. Worms. Ants. Hell, crabs. Each bug not involved in using its brain for locomotion and direct order execution is basically one extra synapse for Taylor.

There are 100000 buried cicadas under Brockton Bay and Taylor hijacks the sum of their dormant cognitive abilities to calculate exactly the wrong course of action so she can Do That.

internal shit would've been INSANE. grieving her mother's death in part because she never got to come out to annette before the car crash AAAAUHGHGHGH

even more secrecy and awkwardness with danny OUGH. ough. was she outed to him by the locker incident? or is she still closeted to him..? oughghhghghghhghg

first time taylor meets and talks to the undersiders lisa immediately recognises that she's a girl and taylor is thrown for a loop and Does not know what to think about those villains..? but then she meets armsmaster who assumes she's a guy (colin is a jerk) and she doesn't want to deal with that really

first paycheck from the undersiders she gets herself diy hormones. or maybe lisa gets it for her. perhaps in the coming months there are some changes and perhaps danny notices but probs not. oughghg.

DO YOU SEE. you don't even have to alter the direction of the story or even her character much. taylor is SO trans-coded already it's ridiculous. she already HAS the trauma and self-esteem issues (remember how many times she hates on her appearance in canon) and mistrust of systems and such. making it textual just adds spice to the secrecy of her two identities, her already fraught relationships with winslow, danny, the PRTectorate (you know their wards offer is gonna have been shitty about being a trans minor), and all her internal conflicts about everything. DO YOU SEE.

One of my all-time favorite Worm moments still has to be when Taylor meets Scapegoat. They trade injuries, he goes “you’re fucking blind?!” and spends the rest of the chapter being dragged around by his teammates while Taylor looks on thinking “I wonder if his power makes the damage worse for him?” Meanwhile she’s in so much less pain than before that she describes the feeling as euphoric. My dissociative queen 🪲

People love to harp on Taylor for shooting a baby that one time but the secret is she was entirely right to shoot that baby. That baby being kidnapped by a guy who's main hobby is "keeping people aware and trapped in horribly painful time loops until long after the sun goes kaput." Every time Purity shows up she takes the time to look directly into the camera and proclaim her love for That Baby Taylor Shot not just as a mother loving her child, but as a Nazi who viewed that baby as the most inherently perfect, pure thing in a horrible world infested with people who weren't white. And she tried to throw that baby out the damn window. Taylor shooting that baby is really just a Purity L she was tangentially involved in cause what do you mean the teenager you tried to blow up two years ago saves your baby better than you do. L. In terms of net suffering prevented, shooting the baby is like the most moral thing she does in the entire book. It's not even in the top twenty most questionable things Taylor did. It's the easiest trolley problem of all time but, sadly, "Taylor shoots a goddamn baby in the head" is really easy to dumb down for casual reference in a way that stuff like "Taylor played chicken with Triumph's life to make his dad agree to argue against the city's condemnation" just isn't. Anyways this is why the marketplace of ideas sucks.
