Sohee was always sure he didnât believe in love at first sight. It made no sense to him - How was it even possible to have feelings like that without getting to know someone? The entire concept was crazy to him and from the first time heâd heard about it as a kid, he wondered what kind of a person could fall so hard just from one look.
Today, he found that he was that type of person.Â
It was a regular day, like any other, where Sohee found himself just a little out of it from getting crossed the night before. Could anyone really blame him though? He was starting his third year of college and he and Anton just wanted to have some fun before instruction began, especially since the two had moved to a place off campus this year. It was nice to have a little more privacy compared to living at the frat house, especially since he had his own bathroom now. It was like a breath of fresh air not having to check the bathroom floors for puke or other bodily fluids - literally.
Sohee loved his brothers, he really did, but if he had to live in that frat house for another day, he would have lost it. Thereâs just something about a clean place that was just his and his best friendâs that felt right. And so, the two had celebrated that by taking some shots of cheap vodka and a few too many hits of Antonâs pen on the first school night. In retrospect, that wasnât the brightest idea since he was now sitting at his 8am lecture - 20 minutes early, mind you, because he was scared he wouldnât find a parking spot if he left later- with a horrible case of brain fog and nausea. To top it off, heâd forgotten his water bottle at home.Â
He sat in the back of the lecture hall, hood of his zip-up over his head as his elbows rested against the desk and his palms pressed into his face. He took deep breaths, hoping that his body would reset before class started.
Unluckily for him, it seemed the universe wouldnât allow that as he felt someone tapping his shoulder, mumbling a quiet excuse me as they did. Sohee groaned at the contact.Â
âIf you want to sit here, go for it,â He mumbled, not even bothering to lift his head or look over at the person.Â
âO-oh,â He heard them stutter, voice soft, âNo, IâŠI actually had a question,â
Soheeâs response was instant and blunt, âAsk someone else,âÂ
It was quiet for a moment after that before the voice rang through Soheeâs ears again, âThereâs no one else here to ask..â It was at this that Sohee was letting out a huff of air, his annoyance clear as he sat up and glanced over at the source of his irritation with a frown.Â
As soon as his eyes landed on you, however, he felt his breath hitch as everything around him seemed to fade away so that all he could see was you, standing before him with a nervous smile, and he swore that music started to play in the distance like someone was strumming the most gentle melody heâd ever heard. Time seemed to move slower as his heart sped up and rushes of warmth spread over his skin.
It all lasted only a moment though as you cleared your throat, effectively bringing the boy in front of you crashing down to Earth as everything settled. From your end, you had no idea the sudden rush Sohee was feeling and instead saw a boy who you only assumed was not amused by your interruption of his solace as he stared at you in silence.
You fidgeted in your spot, glancing towards the doors of the lecture hall before turning back to the boy in front of you. You gestured towards the door, âI-Iâll just find someone else outside,â
Before you could even take a step away from him, Sohee was rushing to stand up, hands slamming onto the desk as he exclaimed a sharp âNo!â
You flinched at his sudden outburst before your brows furrowed from the way he winced and immediately sat down, his eyes shutting tight.
âSorry,â His voice was softer now, cracking just slightly as he carefully peeked up at you. You watched him warily, taking note of how his skin looked a little red and how he, in all honestly, looked like heâd been through the wringer. His hair was a shaggy mess underneath his hood, one of his shoes was untied, and you swore his shirt was inside out. He looked kind of sad if you were being honest and you couldnât help but feel bad for him.Â
âItâs alright,â You frowned, unable to get an accurate read on the situation before you. This guy seemed weird but there was something about him that kept the warning bells from ringing in your head, âYou seem to beâŠâ You gestured towards his appearance, âgoing through something?â Your words came out as a question and as Sohee glanced down at himself, he felt red hot embarrassment running up his skin. He let out a huff as he leaned forward to tie his shoe but right as his hands were about to grasp his laces, his head made contact with the desk with a bang. You gasped as the sound reverberated through the lecture hall, hand flying up to your mouth as Sohee muttered out a string of curses and folded in on himself over his chair.
Your body instantly moved to sit next to him as your hands gently coaxed him to sit up, âAre you alright?â
Sohee allowed himself to slowly sit up but his hands stayed covering his face, âIâm okay,â His words came out whiny and muffled from behind his hands.Â
It was kind of cute.Â
âFuck, Sorry,â Sohee ran his hands down his face giving you a view of the newly formed red bump on his forehead. His eyes avoided yours as he spoke, âIâm a little hungover right now,â His voice was so small that you almost didnât catch the words but as they registered you were nodding in understanding as his strange behavior suddenly seemed to make sense.Â
You couldnât help the laugh that left your lips as you thought about it, âIs that why your shirt is inside out?â
Soheeâs eyes widened as he looked down again, pulling at his shirt before muttering out an exasperated Are you kidding me?
Another laugh left your lips before you were leaning forward, bringing a hand to brush Soheeâs hair back so you could get a better look at his bump. Sohee stiffened at the contact before almost instantly relaxing, not wanting you to pull away as his eyes traced over your face. You were oblivious to the way he was committing every bit of you to memory in that moment. From the soft burrow of your brows to the curve of your cheeks to the warm touch of your fingertips against his forehead, he felt like it was all setting his heart ablaze too quickly for comfort. It was as you spoke again, voice sounding as if it was coming directly from an angel, that he knew he was doomed.
âIt doesnât look too bad,â You hummed with a small nod, letting your eyes flicker onto his, âDoes it hurt?âÂ
His brain short circuited as he stared back at you, suddenly aware of just how close you were. It was only as he heard the door to the lecture hall swing open that he was pushing away from you with a start. Your eyes widened at the sudden movement as you settled back in your chair, glancing at the person walking past you two and down to the front of the room.Â
âSorry,â Sohee mentally cursed as he registered that he had now apologized to you three times in the last five minutes. God, if the floor could open up and swallow him whole right now he would be eternally grateful. Unfortunately, he knew that would not happen so he had to do some damage control himself.
âItâs okay,â You watched curiously as he turned to face the front of the lecture hall, avoiding looking at you. He cleared his throat, sitting up straighter and puffing his chest out a bit.Â
âSo,â His voice came out much deeper than before and he ran a hand through his hair before leaning against the desk so his body was again angled towards you, âWhat was your question?â He had a blinding grin on his lips that gave off a boyish charm. If it werenât for the red bump on his forehead and mismatched outfit that he wore bringing his vibes down, he might have looked a bit like a heartthrob in that moment. Instead, you were thinking that maybe he had a concussion.
âWhy are you talking like that?â The grin was wiped off his lips almost instantly and he moved to sit straight again, bringing his hands to his lap. You raised a brow at his new position, posture looking a bit too prim for his appearance.
âThis is how I always talk,â He shook his head, voice normal again, before gesturing for you to ask your question. You couldnât help the smile tugging at your lips at how absurd this whole encounter was over a simple question.
âI was just wondering if I was in the right room. I just transferred here from community college and was so excited that I didnât really pay attention during the orientation tour ,â You let out a sheepish laugh, the sound sending a flutter through Soheeâs chest, âIs this next class for Intermediate Accounting I?â
âIt is,â Sohee hummed, ignoring the throb in his head - and heart. He watched as you let out a sigh of relief before taking off your backpack and setting it down on the desk. You perked up for a moment, almost as if you had remembered something, before turning back to him.
âDo you mind if I sit with you?â At this, Sohee was quick to shake his head, wanting nothing more than to be next to you at that moment.
Well, that was a lie. He did want a little more than that.
âI donât mind,â He shook his head, smiling to himself as you relaxed again and started to pull out your laptop for class, âAnd maybe if you donât mind, I can show you around campus later?âÂ
Your head whipped back in his direction at the offer, face lit up with surprise, âReally?â
âYeah,â Sohee nodded, breaking into a grin, âI mean only if you donât mind,â
âI donât mind at all,â You shook your head, before taking another look down at Soheeâs appearance, âBut maybe we can go this weekend?â Sohee raised a brow at your question, and while you couldnât see his inner turmoil, the boy was absolutely freaking out and thinking that you didnât want his company since you were pushing back on his offer.Â
âYou should really get some rest today if youâre hungover and -oh!â You pulled out a water bottle before handing it to him, âYou should stay hydrated,â
Sohee felt his heart stutter as he took hold of the bottle, his fingers brushing with yours. He swore you had to be an angel. What were the odds he forgot his water bottle and then the prettiest girl heâd ever laid his eyes on offered him one?Â
He was so glad he hadnât skipped class today.Â
âThanks,â He gave you a softer smile this time, before remembering that he hadnât even told you his name yet âIâm Sohee by the way,âÂ
You responded with your own name and Sohee couldnât help but think that it sounded just as pretty as you looked to him.

[ from: sohee đ»
iâm waiting by the bio library!Â
to: sohee đ»
walking over! ]
You couldnât help but smile as you made your way towards the biology library, body buzzing with excitement for your âcampus tourâ, although you knew you were more excited to see Sohee than you were the campus. Youâd already figured out where all of your classes were after the week of instruction but you still wanted to know where everything else was and, if you were being really honest, you wanted to spend time with Sohee. In the last week, he had been texting you everyday. It was mostly small things like asking how you were adjusting and if you got to your classes okay but the messages would venture into random conversations where you got to know each other more. As of now, you had learned that Sohee was an accounting major like you, was a part of a frat - which explained why he was hungover on the first day of instruction - lived with his best friend that heâd known since kindergarten, and his favorite drink was cider. You fiddled with the can of cider in your hands as the biology library came into view. It was just a small token of appreciation for showing you around and you hoped he liked it. Youâd be lying to yourself if you said you weren't enjoying talking to Sohee so much in the last week. He was your first new friend and he was just so easy to talk to. Hopefully that ease translated in person too.Â
You found not moments later that it did.Â
Sohee spotted you first, waving his hand up with a blinding smile before jogging over to you. His outfit today was a lot more cohesive. He had on a regular hoodie, jeans, shoes with both laces tied, and a baseball cap atop his head. For a moment you wondered how all that hair on his head fit under there.Â
âI got you something,â You grinned up at him as you held the can of cider out for him to take. Sohee stared down at it before glancing up at you with a small frown and mumbling about how he didnât get you anything. You couldnât help but laugh at his tone before grabbing one of his hands and pressing the cold can into it. You didnât notice the way Sohee swallowed at the brush of your fingers against his.
âYouâre giving me a tour so this is just thanks for that,â You nodded before gesturing out towards the campus, âSo shall we?âÂ
Sohee stood silent for just a second before his lips were tugging back into a big grin and for just another second, you found yourself stunned because Did he look this cute the day you met him too?
Soheeâs tour, you found, was quite informative - not in the way that a regular tour would be but in a way that gave you so much insight into Sohee and his friends. Youâd started with the Biology library and Sohee told you how his friend Sungchan used to study here all the time with his girlfriend when they both were students.
âTheyâre a really cute couple,â Sohee nodded as you walked alongside him and past the library, âThey have their own apartment together now,â
You hummed at the new information, âThatâs sweet,â
âYeah,â Sohee glanced over at you, âI actually remember the night they started dating. Anton, my friend Eunseok, and I were walking home and they were kissing right in the middle of the Student Pavillion Court - thatâs where all the themed housing and greek life is. I used to live there before Anton and I got our apartment,âÂ
Next, you found yourself at the Humanities Department.Â
âSo right over here,â Sohee pointed towards a cluster of tables that sat outside the main Humanities lecture hall, âMy friend Sion spilled an entire tray of food right in front of his professor. He had really been trying to make a good impression on her so that sheâd let him join one of her advanced seminars at the time,â
Your brows rose upon hearing about this boyâs misfortune, âDid she let him join?â
Sohee snorted at your question, âOh yeah. At the end of the day Sion has this charming appeal to him so it wasnât a surprise to anyone that he got in. Heâs pretty smart too so I donât know why he was stressing so much. Personally, I think he really wanted to join that seminar only because he found out his crush was going to be the TA,âÂ
You let out a small huh at his words before continuing to follow him through the campus.Â
âOver there,â Sohee gestured to a cluster of buildings that were shorter than the rest, âis where the Performing Arts Department is. My friend Jisung is a dance major so we go to a few of his performances in the auditorium throughout the semester,â
You lit up at the mention of this, âOh, that sounds like so much fun. I didnât really get to see a lot of things like that at community college,â
Sohee raised a brow at your comment and moved in front of you before turning so that he was walking backwards. His hands were pressed into the pockets of his hoodie as he tilted his head to the side, âDo you dance at all?â
You snorted at the question, âI can not dance to save my life.â You shook your head before meeting Soheeâs eyes again, âI like to watch though,â
âI guess Iâll have to take you to a show one of these days,â He smiled down at you before turning so that his back was facing you again, âItâll be a date,â
You felt your cheeks heat up at his words, wondering if they held any implications to them and while you couldnât see Soheeâs face in that moment, a similar pink heat crawled upon his own cheeks.Â
Sohee continued to show you around campus, telling you about every building and the memories and friends he associated with them. Your favorite story so far was about how heâd accidentally signed up for the conservation club while walking to his calculus lecture freshman year because he was running late and the staffer wouldnât leave him alone.
âTo this day,â He huffed just thinking about it, âThey charge my student account $50 per semester to save the bees and I canât figure out how to cancel it. I get the bees need to be saved but Iâm broke,âÂ
You threw your head back with a laugh that sent butterflies through Soheeâs stomach and in that moment he thought that maybe $50 was worth it if he could hear that sound again and again.
He wished this moment could last forever but there was only one department left to show you, one he deliberately left for last. Youâd started your tour with Sohee around 3pm and now you were getting close to sunset as you found yourself at the Engineering department of campus.Â
âThis,â Sohee gestured to a building that seemed to tower over the rest on campus, âIs the Engineering Tower. You normally need a card to scan in and I just happen to have one that I swiped one from Eunseok before he graduated,â You watched in awe as Sohee pulled out a white card with your schoolâs logo on it before holding it up to the towerâs entrance. A small beep and a click sounded through the air before Sohee held the door open for you and gestured you inside. Sunlight filtered through the windows of the building, casting you and Sohee with a soft glow as you waited for the elevator to take you up. Once it had arrived, you followed Sohee inside and watched as he pressed the button for the top floor.Â
âThis is actually one of the newer buildings on campus,â Sohee hummed as he rocked on his heels.
âReally?â You tilted your head in question.
âItâs only a few years old,â He nodded before braving a glance your way. Your cheeks were painted a soft pink color, likely from walking around in the sun, and your eyes seemed to twinkle as all your attention laid on him. Soheeâs heart pounded against his chest as he cleared his throat and turned his attention to the doors in front of him, âA lot of couples actually come up here for dates,â
âOh?â You felt your stomach do a small flip at the new information, âHave you brought anyone here before?â
It was almost comical how quickly Sohee was shaking his head and glancing back at you with wide eyes.
âN-no,â He spoke softly and you felt warmth settling into your chest as he glanced down at his feet and said his next words, âJust you,âÂ
Tension filled the small elevator compartment - not the kind that was suffocating but the kind that had you slowly reaching out for Soheeâs hand. He seemed to catch your movement from the side of his eyes but before your fingers could even brush his, the elevator was dinging to signal your arrival and the doors opened to reveal the entire campus sitting below you. You let out a gasp at the sight before surging forward towards the windows for a better look.Â
âOh my gosh,â You breathed out as you took in the way the sunset filtered over the university, drowning it and the people below with so much warmth. You could see other students walking through the roads of the campus that you and Sohee had just made your way through, holding conversations and laughing with one another. A small breeze blew through the air and you could see the ruffle of the trees and the way a few leaves rolled through the ground. Further out, you saw the way the city expanded well beyond the confines of your school and out to a point that your eyes couldnât even focus on. Everything just looked so new to you, so exciting, and you thought that this moment couldnât get more perfect than it was now.
That is until you felt Soheeâs shoulders brush against yours, his body so close that you could feel the heat radiating off him.
âWhat do you think?â He glanced down at you with a soft smile. You felt your breath catch in your throat as his brown eyes seemed to turn gold with the way the light hit them and how his skin was alight with a pretty glow. You couldnât help but trace over every mole and freckle that decorated his face. You hadnât even been aware that you had been openly staring at the boy until he called out your name, effectively pulling you out of your trance and into embarrassment.Â
âSorry,â Your body was buzzing as you sharply turned your gaze away from him and had you not been in your own state of turmoil, you would have noticed the way Sohee was patting his hand against his chest, willing his heart to stop beating so hard against his ribs.
âIâŠâ You cleared your throat, keeping your gaze forward, âI really like it here and I really liked your tour,âÂ
Soheeâs face softened at this, âYeah?â You nodded, still looking ahead in a way that Sohee thought was adorable, âMaybe we can do something like this another time too then?âÂ
You were quiet for a moment and Sohee wondered if he misread the situation but before he could dwell on it too long, you were nodding again.Â
âIâd really like thatâ

-
It was two months later that you found yourself at Soheeâs apartment, brain feeling like mush as you completed the last question of a Canvas quiz from the comfort of Soheeâs bed while he sat at his desk. While you werenât technically allowed to help each other on the exam, you still figured that you two could complete it together - for moral support.
Not because you two wanted to just hang out together.
No, definitely not that.Â
For you it just so happened to be a plus that you got to spend more time with Sohee, especially once you both finished your quizzes and he turned to face you with a tired, but oh so pretty, smile. He let out a sigh as he slunk back in his chair and combed a hand through his hair. It was unfair, really, just how attractive he could look just sitting there in a t-shirt and sweats.
âGod,â Sohee stretched his arms out above his body with a small groan, âIâm glad thatâs over with,â
âYeah,â You nodded, closing your laptop and setting it off to the side, âIâm so excited for this weekend. Iâm not going to think of anything school related at all,âÂ
Sohee raised a brow at your words, leaning forward so he could rest his elbows against his knees, âYou have plans?â You couldnât help but snicker at his tone, almost able to hear him ask Without me?
âNo,â You shrugged your shoulders, lips tugging upwards as Soheeâs expression relaxed.
You watched as he stood and made his way towards you, gesturing for you to scoot over so that he could take his place next to you.Â
âSo youâre excited..â He began, adjusting the pillows behind him so that he could rest against them comfortably, âto do nothing?â He seemed just a bit baffled when you only nodded in response and couldnât help the small snort that left his lips.
You knocked your shoulder against his, âI genuinely like doing nothing after a week of lectures and soul crushing quizzes,â
He hummed in understanding, thinking of how almost every class had quizzes due this week in preparation for midterms.
âYouâre interesting, you know that?â He sunk further into his spot as he glanced over at you, âMost girls I know like to have fun over the weekend,â
The mention of other girls had your stomach twisting and you held down the nerves that bubbled up your chest.Â
Despite that, you couldnât hold down your curiosity, âYou know a lot of girls?â You were hyper aware of Soheeâs eyes on you as you tucked your knees into your chest. When he didnât say anything, you braved a peak his way and caught the way he was looking down at you with a teasing smirk. Heat crawled up your skin as your head whipped forward, now avoiding his stare. At this, Sohee could only laugh, finding your mannerisms so cute.
âI know a lot of guys too,â The words came out before you could even think about what you were saying and you listened as Soheeâs laughter died out like a fire that had been dumped with water. You swore you could scream as you realized what you had said.Â
âYou do?â You hadnât expected the question from Sohee and you tapped your fingers against your legs as you tried to think of something, anything, to say back to him that didnât make you want to die of embarrassment. When nothing came to mind, you let out a flustered groan and faced him again. You sucked in a breath at the way he was staring down at you, brows furrowed and lips pressed into a pout.
Your voice was small as you mumbled a quiet No.Â
It was instant the way Sohee let out a sigh of relief. In all honesty, he didnât care if you had a lot of guy friends but he wanted to be the only guy you had eyes for. He didnât even want to think about another guy talking to you the way he would, looking at you the way he would, or feeling the way he did for you. God, it had only been two months since heâd met you but Sohee knew he was hooked.
You cleared your throat, sitting up a bit straighter, âI donât know why I said that. I think this week has stressed me out,â It was a lame excuse but Sohee seemed to buy it as he nodded along, expression lighting up for an instant as he rolled over on his side, leaning over to rummage through his bedside drawer. When he turned back to face you, he was holding what looked like a pen in his hand.Â
âWant to take a hit?â He held it out towards you and upon looking closer, you could see that it was a weed pen, âIt always helps me to destress,âÂ
âLike on the first day of school?â You snorted, watching how Soheeâs lips pulled into an amused grin at your comment. He let out a sheepish laugh before bringing the pen to his lips. You watched intently, as he sucked in a breath so that the pen lit up. When he pulled it away, he sucked in another breath before letting smoke blow into the air above you.Â
âThe only reason I was out of it then is because Anton and I drank too,â He lolled his head to the side, âIf itâs just the pen then itâs nice,â Sohee held the pen out to you again and you eyed it warily, contemplating your options. It shouldnât have been as hard of a decision as you were making it out to be since there were only two things you could do - either get high or not get high. Sohee caught onto your hesitance rather quickly, sitting up so he could turn to face you better.Â
âHave you ever gotten high before?â He asked curiously and while the question didnât warrant it, you felt the heat of embarrassment crawl up your skin as you shook your head no.Â
What if he thought you were lame?
You were sure all these other girls he knew had done this before and didnât look so callow in comparison. Doubt burrowed in your chest as your eyes fell to your knees and Sohee was quick to catch the change in your demeanor.Â
âHey,â He tapped your leg, making sure he had your attention âThatâs okay. You know you donât have to do anything if you donât want to,â
You were quick to shake your head, âThatâs not it. I just havenât done this before and Iâm..Iâm just nervous,â Soheeâs expression softened as he watched the way you bit at your lip. He let out a deep sigh as he took hold of one of your hands, pressing the pen into it.Â
âTwo things,â He scooted closer to you so that his legs bumped together with yours, âFirst - Do you actually want to try it?â You glanced down at the pen in your hand and then up to Soheeâs patient face before giving him a short nod, âSecond - Do you trust me?â You gave him another nod and this time, his lips curled into a sweet smile, âGood,â
His body was alight with a warm buzz and he wasnât sure if it was because the weed was working fast or if it was from knowing that you felt safe enough to be so vulnerable with him.
âOkay,â He guided your hand that held the pen to your face, stopping just in front of your mouth, âYouâre going to want to bring it to your lips and then suck in a big breath,â You listened diligently, pressing the pen to your lips as you took in a breath, âBefore you blow the smoke out, take another quick breath and then let it all out,â You blinked at him as you pulled the pen away and sucked in another short breath before blowing the smoke up, watching as it filled the air between you. Almost instantly, you felt the burn in your throat as you began to cough in a fit. You brought your elbow to your face as you leaned over yourself, trying to will yourself to stop. You felt the gentle press of Soheeâs hand against your back, rubbing comforting circles into your skin.Â
âCoughing is normal when you first try it,â He winced at a particularly loud hack, âBut youâll get high faster because of it,â You sat up with a deep breath, eyes watering as your wheezing died down. Sohee chuckled at the sight of you, bringing his hand up to gently wipe at your eyes with his thumb. Your breath hitched at the contact, the entire thing feeling too domestic as Sohee stared down at you with that oh-so-sweet smile that you couldnât get enough of.
And then he just had to go talk in that soft tone that had your heart rapping against your ribs, âThatâs my girl,âÂ
It was only a moment before Soheeâs eyes widened as he seemed to realize just what he said.
âI..Uh,â He cleared his throat, quickly pulling his hands away from you and into his lap as a pink color spread onto his cheeks and ears, âSorry I didnât mean it like that. I justâŠI..I donât know what I meant. I just..fuckâÂ
Tension filled the air the same way it had that day at the Engineering Tower - not uncomfortable but instead charged with something that made you want to get closer to the boy. It wasnât rocket science that you had a bit of a crush on Sohee and from the way heâd acted towards you from the day of the tour to now, you were almost sure that he felt the same way. The last two months had been filled to the brim with knowing glances, random excuses to hang out (on one occasion, Sohee had even asked you to go with him to get his carâs oil changed), and a familiarity that had cemented itself so quickly that you couldnât be sure that youâd barely met the boy this year.Â
âSohee,â His name was breathy on your lips and his eyes snapped towards you at the sound. Unlike his usual easygoing demeanor, Sohee was at attention. He swallowed as you shifted, bringing a hand to rest against his knees. His eyes were locked on yours, breath stuttering as you tentatively leaned forward. His own body moved to follow your lead without him even realizing it and his gaze fell onto your lips before he brought a hand up to cup your cheek. He was aware of every second in the moments that followed from the way your fingers bunched up the fabric of his sweats and how your breath fanned against his skin when you were just centimeters apart to how you let out a whine that just about destroyed him as he closed the distance between you so that he could finally kiss you.
He kissed you slowly at first, soft with the way his lips slotted against yours. But as the high began to settle in and he felt his body buzz at your touch, his kiss became more feverish. He groaned against your lips as your hands traveled up to his torso, tugging at his shirt to pull him closer. Sohee was quick to bring his own hands to your sides as his body shifted forward and guided you to lay back against his mattress. You couldnât help but sigh into the kiss as you felt the soft sheets press against your back and Sohee took the opportunity to slip his tongue past your lips. Everything felt so heightened in that moment from the way your skin erupted with goosebumps as Sohee's hands began to travel underneath your shirt to the dizzying feeling of his tongue against yours. Your own hands travelled up the expanse of his chest and over his shoulders to find purchase in his hair, giving it a gentle tug that only seemed to spur the boy on. His lips moved sloppily against yours now as his hips pressed against yours and you couldnât help the way your body bucked up against his. It all felt hazy yet electric with every second that Sohee continued to kiss you like he couldnât get enough of you. It was only when he had to catch his breath that he pulled away, barely registering your whine at the loss of contact.
His eyes were blown out, cheeks flush, and lips swollen and shiny with spit as he panted for breath. His gaze met yours and he couldnât help but grin as he leaned forward again for another quick kiss. He gave your waist a gentle squeeze as his face hovered above yours, close enough for you to feel as if you could get lost in his eyes.
âYou look so pretty right now,â His voice was soft as he placed a kiss against the corner of your lips this time. Your breath hitched at the intimacy of it as your body squirmed underneath his.
It all just felt like so much and you wanted more.
âSohee,â You gasped as your hips rocked up against his and Soheeâs grip on your waist tightened. His touch on your skin was searing, âIt feels good,â
Sohee swallowed at your wrecked tone, fingers now trembling against your body as you looked up at him almost in a plea.
âYeah?â He leaned in to connect your lips once again, shivering as your hands carded through his hair.
âYeah,â You sighed with a short nod and before Sohee could process it, you were guiding him onto his back and straddling his lap. His hands were quick to find their place against your waist as yours pressed into his chest. You didnât give him any time before your hips rolled against his, body desperate for him as warmth enveloped your skin. Soheeâs head fell back against his bed, eyes screwed shut as you rocked against him. His hands gripped your waist tight and the feeling only spurred you on as you leaned forward to kiss down his jaw and the column of his throat.
âFuck,â He gasped as he felt himself hardening beneath you.
âSohee, I need you,â You whimpered against the skin of his neck and it was like a switch flipped as your whiny tone hit his ears . You yelped as he flipped you over, rough and fast, so that you were once again beneath him. His hands were quick to find yours before pinning them above your head and his lips were crashing against yours again.Â
âYou know you drive me crazy?â His voice was breathless against your lips as one of his hands travelled down your body while the other held your wrists above your head, âBeen like that since the day I met you,âÂ
You panted below him as his hand slipped under the waistband of your pants and over the soft fabric of your underwear. His fingers were teasing as he slid them over the wet spot that had formed, adding just a bit of pressure so he could hear you gasping underneath him. Your senses were heightened, hyperaware of every little thing Sohee did from the way his lips had attached to your neck to the way his hand moved to the lace edge of your panties.
âGonna make you feel eve-â His fingers had barely hooked under the waistband when a loud banging erupted from Soheeâs door. Both of your heads snapped in the direction of the sound and Sohee was quick to pull his hands out of your pants and shield you in case anyone walked in.
âSohee,â Antonâs voice sounded from the other end of the door, â Are you guys done with that quiz yet? Weâre supposed to meet Wonbin for dinner in 20 minutes,â
âFuck,â Sohee dropped his head against your shoulder with a frustrated sigh before sitting up to respond the the younger boy, his voice louder now, âGive me 10 minutes. Iâll be right out,â
It was silent for a beat before Sohee was climbing off of your body and sinking into the spot next to you.
âI am so sorry,â He ran his hands down his face with a sigh, âI completely forgot I had dinner plans and Wonbin just got dumped so I canât bail and I I donât want to leave but I have to. Believe me, I really really donât want to leave you right now,â
You slowly sat up, heat crawling up your cheeks as your hands brushed down your shirt. You tried to ignore the lingering feeling of Soheeâs hands on you and the shakiness of your fingers.
âNo..â You shook your head, voice small and face warm, âI get it,â
Soheeâs head snapped your way at the sound of your quiet tone.
âHey,â His eyes were alight with worry as one of his hands reached out for yours and laced your fingers together, âIâŠI need you to know this wasnât just me being high or anything like that,âÂ
You glanced up to meet his soft stare, heart stuttering at the sight.
âI really like you and I meant it when I said youâve driven me crazy since day one,â He confessed, giving your hand a small squeeze.
You sucked in a breath as you registered his words, lips tugging into a smile âReally?âÂ
Sohee visibly relaxed, meeting your smile with one of his own as he gave you a nod and leaned in to place a chaste kiss on your lips, âYouâre on my mind so often and sometimes I canât believe just how much I like you,âÂ
At that, you couldnât help the giggle that left your lips and Sohee swore his heart was soaring at the sound.
âCan I please take you on a date when I come back?â He asked, hopeful as his eyes bore into yours.
You raised a brow, âArenât you going to be out with Anton and Wonbin for a while?â
âI meanâ Sohee shrugged, âI can make an excuse to leave early once I know Wonbin is okay,â
You couldnât help but laugh at his suggestion, âSohee you canât do that,âÂ
As a pout cemented itself on his lips at your answer you leaned in for yet another kiss, beaming as it instantly melted into one of his pretty smiles that you had come to love.
âTake me on a date tomorrow night,â You said as you pecked his cheek before leaning to whisper in his ear, âand then you can make me feel good again,â
When you pulled away, you found that Sohee was no longer looking at you. Instead, he seemed to be avoiding your eyes as his cheeks and ears burned pink.Â
How could someone that had you squirming just a few minutes ago look this cute?
âHey,â You felt your own face start to heat up at his sudden shyness, âDonât act innocent, you had me pinned underneath you 5 minutes ago.â
âI couldnât help it,â Sohee sputtered as he braved a glance your way, âYou said you needed me,â
âWell duh,â You muttered, turning your attention to your linked hands, enjoying the way your hand seemed to fit so perfectly in his, âI like you a lot too and youâreâŠkind of hot,â
You heard Sohee let out a breathy laugh at that before his free hand was finding its place against your cheek and gently guiding you to look at him, âYou like me too?â
âI thought it was kind of obvious Sohee,â You swallowed your nerves as you met his eyes, taking in the way he was looking at you with so much adoration that your heart could barely take it, âI like you so much,â
Sohee swore his heart could melt in that moment, âYouâre perfect, you know that?âÂ
With that, he was kissing you once more - his lips so gentle against yours that your heart was skipping a beat because while Sohee might have fallen first, you had fallen just as hard.

BONUS
Later that night your phone buzzed alive as you lay awake in bed, mind still replaying the events that had transpired earlier. When you saw Soheeâs name light up your screen, you couldnât help the butterflies that once again fluttered in your chest.Â

Your hands covered your face, palms pressing into your eyes as you sobbed into the quiet air. Every image of you and Eunseok flashed through your head - from the way heâd kissed you in this same courtyard when you first met to the way less than an hour ago heâd told you that he wished youâd never met.Â
How could you be so stupid? How could you think that he loved you too? Youâd been hanging around for almost a year and you mostly met up at night, alone in his room. Most of your meetings outside of that happened because your roommate was dating his and even then, you never told Hana how you had been hooking up with Eunseok. You couldnât tell her now either, not when your skin flashed with hot embarrassment as you recalled his rejection over and over.
Almost a year of shared touches, stolen moments, and conversations youâd only trusted him with - just for him to tell you he didnât even care about you. Your heart felt like it was crumbling with the reminder and your lungs were on fire as you gasped for breath in between cries.
Your throat and chest felt tight, muscles overwhelmed with the pressure from each sob that tore through your body. You werenât even sure how long youâd been out here, crouched on the floor crying your heart out. You were oblivious to your surroundings, not even noticing a figure approaching from the side.Â
The man stopped in his tracks when he first saw you, glancing around the empty courtyard warily before taking careful steps towards you.
âUm..â He reached a hand out towards you before stopping himself in fear of spooking you. He glanced around again, bringing his hands to the straps of his backpack as he did so. His brows furrowed as he turned back to you, watching as you struggled to even out your breaths as your head slunk between your knees.
He cleared his throat, watching as your body stiffened for a moment at the noise, âExcuse me. Are you..â His words trailed for a moment as your head lifted to look over at him. Your eyes were puffy, cheeks wet and nose pink as you sucked in rapid, choppy breaths, âAre you okay?â
Your vision was blurred by tears, only registering the tall appearance of the man before you before your lips wobbled at his question. A whine vibrated against your throat as you shook your head and dropped it between your knees again, resuming your crying. The boyâs lips parted as he watched you, suddenly feeling at a loss with the situation he found himself in. It was almost 1 in the morning and heâd just gotten back from a late night study session. This was the last thing he expected to deal with tonight.
What was a guy even supposed to do when he found a random girl crying alone at night? He swore heâd seen a video on Tiktok a few days ago about how crying women showing up alone at night was the latest ruse to rob people. The creator had said something about how there was always a second party around the corner that would jump good samaritans in situations like this. He hadnât thought much about it then but now, he was a little wary. It didnât help that you looked so pathetic, crumpled into a little ball that made him not want to leave you alone. What if one of the creeps from Alpha Delta Whatever tried to take advantage of you like this? He knew the frat guys werenât all like that but heâd heard enough stories to stay rooted to his spot near you.Â
He thought for a moment that if you were trying to rob him, he was about to make it really easy.Â
âHey,â He sighed, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose as he took a step closer to you, âItâs not really safe for a girl to be alone this late at night,â
He didnât expect you to respond but as you mumbled an incoherent I donât care in between whimpers and sobs, his shoulders slumped in distress.Â
He thought for another moment that if you werenât trying to rob him, you would make it really easy for others to rob you.
âI think you should care,â He cocked his head to the side, âStatistically we live in a safe area but colleges can be an outlier in that data and college campuses actually show a higher rate in crime related to property damage and theft. You lifted your head, peeking over at the random man that was privy to your breakdown and for some reason was telling you about criminal statistics. It was bizarre enough to make your cries come to a halt for a moment. Your breaths were still shaky as you wiped at your eyes, faintly registering the throbbing pressure in your head.
âWhat?â You blinked up at him through wet lashes, finally taking a good look at the man. He was tall, really tall, and clad in a boxy zip-up grey hoodie, t-shirt peeking out from underneathm and black sweats. His hands held onto the straps of his backpack and a pair of glasses sat perched up on his nose. Behind the frames sat a surprised expression and a head of fluffy brown hair.
âHey,â He perked up just a bit, lips tugging into a gentle smile âYou stopped crying,âÂ
âYeah,â You sniffled, pulling at the neckline of your shirt to dab at your nose, âBecause you started to talk about property damage statistics while Iâm here crying overâŠâ Your words got caught at the reminder of why you were here and as the memory of Eunseokâs cold stare and harsh words hit you again, the waterworks started again. The man in front of you could only watch in dumbstruck awe as you leaned backwards to sit on your butt, bringing your hands over your face as your cries resumed.
âNo, no, no,â He stumbled forward, slowly crouching down as he brought a hesitant hand to your back. He winced as he felt your body shake against his touch, âHey I can talk about other statistics,â His brows furrowed as he racked his brain for something to say to get you to stop crying.
âUm,â He sucked in a breath as you folded in on yourself, âDid you know that giraffes are 30 times more likely to get hit by lightning than people,âÂ
When you continued to cry, ignoring his fact, he felt himself panicking, âUh..TheâŠOh! Snails! Snails have teeth. They actually have between 1000 to 12000 teeth if you want to be preci-â
âStop,â You croaked, shaking your head as you shut your eyes tight, replaying the entire conversation you had with Eunseok earlier over and over, âI donât give a shit about snails and I really donât need you to comfort me right now,â
The man froze for a moment, frown cementing on his lips as another whine left your lips.
âWell I canât just leave a crying girl out here alone. Itâs not safe this late at night,â He sighed, shifting to sit down next to you. As a chill ran through the air, he noted how you were only in a t-shirt and jeans. With a sigh he took off his backpack, setting it down next to him, before unzipping his hoodie and draping it over your shoulders. You noticed the smell of his cologne as soon as the fabric set over your body, notes of black pepper and raspberry settling into your nose. You felt the manâs hand on your back again, this time rubbing gentle circles into your skin. You hated to admit it but as he continued his reassuring movements, offering silent support, you felt yourself calming down little by little until your cries dissolved into sniffles and hiccups.Â
âHere,â You felt the man next to you shuffling until he nudged your arm with a half-full water bottle, âYou donât want to dehydrate,â
You stared at the bottle and then up at him, noting the kind smile on his face.Â
âI donât know,â You swallowed thickly, wiping at your eyes with the back of your hand, âStatistically â of people globally have oral herpes. How do I know youâre not one of them?âÂ
The man blinked at you in awe for a moment before his head fell in a quick fit of laughter. Had you not been in a state of turmoil, you would have stopped to admire just how cute his laugh sounded.
âI promise you Iâm clean,â He lifted his head, pushing his glasses back up his nose when his eyes met yours again. He held the bottle towards you once more and this time you took it from him. You took a few sips, welcoming the cool feeling of the liquid soothing your throat before handing it back to him with a quiet thank you.
âIâm Sungchan by the way,â He set the bottle back inside his backpack before settling into his spot next to you. You met his introduction with your own, quietly offering your name in between sniffles.
âSoâŠ.â He awkwardly hummed as he pulled his legs up and rested his elbows against his knees, âI know Iâm just a random guy but want to tell me why youâre out here crying in the middle of the night?â You swallowed at his question, setting your head down against your knees before heaving out a big sigh.Â
âI met a guy last year,â Your bottom lip wobbled as you started to recount your saga with Eunseok. Sungchan, despite being a total stranger, listened dutifully. His hand was on your back again, gently rubbing every time you would let out little cries between speaking. He thought it was definitely a big improvement from the debilitating sobs he heard moments earlier. When you finished recounting the moments that led up to your arrival at the courtyard, Sungchan was silent. You braved a glance his way, finding his face set into a deep frown.
âThatâŠâ He huffed, having difficulty with finding the right words before settling for a few simple ones, âHe sounds like a dick,âÂ
That managed to pull a soft laugh from you and Sungchanâs expression softened at the sound.
âHe does, doesnât he?â You sniffled as another wave of tears washed over you, âI should have realized it didnât mean anything to him,â
âWhoever this guy is,â Sungchan patted your back before bringing his hand back to his body, âHeâs an idiot for not realizing he had someone who loved him this much. Itâs his loss,âÂ
You nodded at Sungchanâs words, trying to convince yourself to believe them. You sat like that for a while, your breaths slowly calming down as Sungchan patiently sat by. He leaned back at some point, letting his palms press into the ground behind him as he looked up at the stars in the sky. You werenât sure how much time had passed when you heard Sungchan yawning.
âFuck,â You winced, grabbing the boyâs attention as you moved to stand, âIâm so sorry. I should probably get home. Iâve held you up, huh?âÂ
Sungchan followed your lead, dusting off his pants before shaking his head with a smile, âItâs fine. I couldnât just leave a lady in distress,â
âStillâŠâ You shrugged off his hoodie, holding it out to him, âI donât live too far from here so Iâll just get goingâŠâ
Sungchanâs brows raised at your words, âYou donât live here?â When you shook your head in response you knew he was going to offer to walk you home from the look on his face. Before he could even present that option, you assured him you were fine to walk yourself.
âIâve taken up enough of your time and itâs only like a 15 minute walk if I go fast,â You assured. When Sungchanâs concerned expression didnât fade, you were giving him a little sigh before pulling your phone out and handing it to him, âHere, text yourself so you have my number. Iâll text you again later so you know I got home safe,â
While Sungchan would have rather made sure you got home safely himself, he didnât want to push too hard considering heâd just met you. In the back of his head, he thought you might still be able to rob him. So, instead he just entered his number into your phone and pushed his hoodie back into your hands. You raised a brow at the action.
âItâs cold out. I live in the Bio house which is just right thereâ He pointed behind you to a house that stood at the corner of the courtyard, âSo Iâm fine but if you have to walk home alone, Iâd feel a little better knowing you arenât freezing on the way,â
You sighed at his explanation, âThank youâŠâ Your words trailed as you realized you had forgotten his name. He couldnât help but snort at this.
âSungchan,â He smiled as he slung his backpack over his shoulder, âThe names in your phone too if you forget,â
And so, you found yourself quietly slipping into your apartment a little over 15 minutes later. You were glad that you and Hana had gotten a new place for your last year of college - one that gave you both your own rooms. You didnât have to worry about waking her as you settled into the bean bag that sat in the corner of your room and pulled out your phone. You navigated to your messages, a small laugh leaving your lips at the name Sungchan had set for himself before you sent him a text.
[ to: jung sungchan (guy from the courtyard)
i made it home. thank you again for listening. iâll be sure to wash and return your hoodie. ]
His response came almost instantly.
[ from: jung sungchan (guy from the courtyard)
of course. make sure to get some rest tonight
and fuck that guy.Â
not literally.
sorryâŠ. ]
You couldnât help but laugh again at his texts. You could imagine him panicking with how fast each message came through.

âIâm so pissed at Wonbin,â Hana told you over breakfast a week later. You raised a brow as you shoved a spoonful of cereal into your mouth, signaling her to continue, âHe and Eunseok have been playing video games until 3 in the morning for the last couple of days. He missed our date yesterday because he overslept,â You stiffened at the mention of Eunseok but tried to play it off as you continued to eat your meal. Hana didnât seem to notice as she poured herself a glass of orange juice.
âHe said he was coming over today to make it up to me but unless heâs hanging the stars from our ceiling, Iâm still going to be pissed,â She huffed before taking a sip, âThis is Eunseokâs fault too you know,â You hummed in response, ignoring the uncomfortable feeling burrowing into your chest at the continued mention of the man that broke your heart. It wasnât Hanaâs fault though. Neither she, nor Wonbin, seemed to have any idea you and Eunseok had been hooking up. You werenât sure why you had never told her but at some point, youâd gotten so far in that you didnât know how to tell her that you were having sex with her boyfriendâs roommate for months and were falling in love with him.
It felt too embarrassing to tell her now with the way things ended, especially since it seemed that Eunseok wasnât as affected as you were- given the fact that he was happily gaming every night since.
âThe only time he doesnât get on my nerves is when we all hang out together,â She gestured between you both, âItâs like you neutralize the annoying part of him,â
âYeah,â You gave her an awkward laugh in response.
âHonestly,â She sat down at the kitchen counter next to you with a snort, âmaybe you two should get together so he can be more tolerable,â
You said nothing to that, mouth running dry as it only served to remind you that he had rejected you - harshly, at that. Hana seemed to notice your silence, raising a brow as she faced you.
âHey, you okay?â She asked, snapping you out of your quick wallowing.Â
âY-yeah,â You nodded a little too quickly, âSorry. I was just thinking about how I needed to grab some groceries today,â
âOh,â Hana hummed, âCan you grab some of those protein shakes I like?âÂ
You gave her a nod in response, mumbling a quick sure before finishing up your cereal.
Once you were at the grocery store later that day, you werenât even sure what you needed to get yourself. You had stopped by for your weekly grocery run just two days ago so you didnât actually need to re-up yet. Youâd grabbed Hanaâs protein shakes already and found yourself in the produce aisle, staring at the mangoes and wondering if you had enough fruit at home or not. You hadnât realized how intently you were in thought until someone was tapping on your shoulder, causing you to jump with a start. Your hand came to your chest in an attempt to calm the sudden spike in your heart rate.
âShit- sorry,â Your head snapped up at the sound of a familiar voice, lips parting in surprise at the sight of Sungchan standing before you, âDidnât mean to scare you,â
He offered you a small smile as you stared at him, taking in the sight of him in a well-lit area. Unlike the night you met, he didnât have his glasses on - likely having swapped them for contacts. He wore a track jacket, unzipped to reveal a tank top below, and a pair of sweatpants. His skin was slightly flushed and you assumed that he must have come here straight from the gym, especially with how his hair still looked a little damp from sweat.
âSungchan,â You met his smile with one of your own, âHey, Um, I meant to text you earlier this week about your hoodie,â
âOh!â Sungchanâs brows raised at the reminder, âI forgot I had lent that to you,â A soft laugh left his lips as he brought one of his hands to the back of his head, âI actually just saw you when I walked in and wanted to say hiâŠand uh, see how you were doing. I hope thatâs not weird?âÂ
You shook your head in response, assuring him that it wasnât weird and that you were doing fine.Â
âI think you got to see the worst of it,â Your cheeks burned at the memory, eyes dropping to the floor as embarrassment settled in, âItâs been a bit hard but Iâve been managing,â
âHe hasnât messaged or called you or anything, has he?â Sungchan asked and you shook your head, making the man before you click his tongue in annoyance, âDick,â
You chuckled at his tone, raising your head to meet his eyes again.Â
âHe really is, huh?â You said matter of factly.
âI bet heâs ugly too,â Sungchan shook his head, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he did so. When your brows furrowed at his words, Sungchan gave you a sheepish smile, âToo much? I was just trying to make you feel better,â At that, you couldnât help the laughter that left your lips. Sungchanâs grin grew wider at this.
âYouâre really funny, you know that?â You shook your head.
âAm I?â Sungchan tilted his head to the side.
You nodded, âI mean, you found me crying in the middle of the night and one of the first things you said to me was college crime statistics,â
âHey,â He put his hands up, âYou stopped crying for like 10 seconds after that,â
âBecause it was so random.â You rolled your eyes.
âStill,â He shrugged, still smiling down at you. A bit of a silence settled between you two with that. You sucked in a breath, looking over at the mangoes as you remembered you were still in the middle of your impromptu grocery run.
âSo hey,â You swallowed, turning back to him, âI did wash your hoodie. I live just down the street in the apartments if you wanted to stop by and grab it..maybe?â You werenât sure why you suddenly felt nervous. Maybe it was because this man had seen you at one of your low points and you barely knew him. Or maybe it was because he didnât seem to have any judgement towards you despite seeing you like that.
Sungchan nodded at your proposal, âSure. I brought my car with me so I can drive us and our groceries there,â He glanced down at your cart, âAre you just getting mangoes and protein shakes?â You sighed at his question before settling with a nod. You really didnât need anything else and werenât in the mood to waste your money.Â
You ended up following Sungchan around for the next 45 minutes, laughing at the little comments he would make here and there. You learned that he was a Biology major and that he was studying to become a doctor. He hadnât settled on the indication he wanted to focus on but was really leaning towards pediatrics.
âI really like kids,â He shrugged as he told you about it, âMy sisterâs kid is the greatest little guy youâd ever meet and he makes me want to make sure kids like him are healthy and happy. You know they say kids are the future,â
In turn, you told him about how you were majoring in Education, wanting to become a kindergarten teacher and Sungchan listened intently.
âIâve had to do some classroom observations as a part of my major and you know, those kids are just so bright. I know a lot of people talk about the pay not being the best compared to a job in STEM but I really think this is something Iâll love doing even 20 years down the road,âÂ
Your fingers tapped against the handles of the shopping cart as you realized this was one of the things you would talk to Eunseok about. Youâd told him how you were worried because your parents had always pushed a STEM major for you. When youâd taken an alternative, they werenât the happiest and youâd always wondered if you were making a mistake despite being passionate about education. Every time, heâd just tell you how it was your life and that you shouldnât stress too much.
âI think thatâs great,â You blinked at Sungchan, realizing that he was beaming at you from across the cart. âAt the end of the day, if youâre happy and youâre doing something that makes everything feel worth it, thatâs what matters right? I think youâd be a great teacher and besides the whole argument that teachers donât make good money is pretty subjective,âÂ
You were left awestruck at his words, not knowing how to respond. Thankfully, you didnât really have to as he started to tug your cart towards the self-checkout counters. You hadnât even realized that talking to Sungchan had made your chest feel lighter compared to earlier that morning as you loaded everything into his car later.
Sungchanâs car was nice, you found. Heâd introduced the old BMW as Bella - Italian for beautiful, despite the car being German. Heâd bought the car used right before college. Heâd worked summers at a restaurant in his hometownâs mall during his last two years of high school and saved enough for half the cost. His parents helped him with the other half as a graduation gift and he'd boasted that he got a really good deal on it since his dadâs friend sold it to him.
After the super short drive to your apartment, Sungchan helped you carry the protein shakes and mangoes youâd picked up to your place despite your insistence that you could do it yourself. You made small conversation as you walked down the hall to your apartment with Sungchan telling you how he had applied to live in your apartment complex since it was one of the nicer on-campus housing options. Unfortunately, all the slots had filled up so quickly that he wasnât able to get in.Â
âOh I know,â You nodded as you unlocked your door, vaguely noting the sound of voices from the other side âHana and I were refreshing the website on the dot when applications dropped and-âÂ
Your words were cut short as you opened the door, coming face to face with three figures in your living room. Hana stood in the center of the room, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared down Wonbin with an unimpressed look. The blond looked like he had come straight here from the gym, clad in a tracksuit, and had a desperate look about his face as he tried to talk to his girlfriend - likely about their missed date. It wasnât those two that had caught you off guard though. Behind them on the sofa sat the reason for your turmoil over the last week. Eunseok sat slouched on your couch, legs spread as he glanced between the couple. He too was wearing his gym attire and you had to wonder for a moment if everyone worked out at this time of day. When the sound of your voice had filled the room, all three turned to look at you.Â
Hana raised a brow at the sight of you and the man behind you, calling your name in question, âWhoâs this?â Her expression was notably brighter from just a moment ago.Â
âOh..â You swallowed, avoiding looking at Eunseok at all costs, âThis is-â
âWonbin? Eunseok?â Sungchanâs voice beat you to the punch and you swore that the way your head whipped in his direction must have been comical. He glanced down at you, confused by the sudden wild look in your eyes.
âYou know each other?" You hurriedly whispered to him.
Sungchan, ever so confused by your sudden whispering, whispered back, âYeah, theyâre my friends. Why are we whispering?â
âHey Sungchan,â Eunseokâs voice pulled your attention back to the living room. He had his hand raised in greeting, âLong time no seeâÂ
Sungchan snorted in response, âYouâre funny acting like I didnât spot you while you struggled in the gym an hour ago,â
You were suddenly feeling very sick, ignoring the comfortable conversation between the boys as you closed the door behind you and Sungchan. Sungchan didnât seem to notice your sudden quiet demeanor at first as he introduced himself to Hana.
Your ears were ringing, body feeling really hot as a rush of scenarios flooded your brain - most of them being ones where Sungchan would tell Eunseok about your embarrassing breakdown and then theyâd both laugh about it. You hadnât even realized that Sungchan had called your name or that every pair of eyes in the room were on you until his hand tapped against your arm.Â
âSorry - what?â You blinked up at him, taking in a deep breath.Â
âYou okay?â He asked cautiously, lips pinching into a small frown.
âYouâve been zoning out a lot lately,â Hana chimed in, likely referencing your behavior this morning, âHave you been getting enough sleep?â
If the floor would have split apart at that moment, you were thinking that you would willingly jump through it if that would get you out of this room.
âYeah,â You nodded, grabbing onto Sungchanâs sleeve and pulling him forward toward your room in a rushed movement, âJust been a bit tired lately,â You gave Hana a curt nod, not giving her enough time to ask any other questions as you pushed Sungchan into your room and closed the door behind you. As soon as the door was closed, you looked up at Sungchan, cursing as you saw that he was still holding the case of protein shakes and bag of mangoes. Without a thought, you grabbed the items and went back outside to drop them on the kitchen counter before making a beeline to your room. This time, however, your eyes met Eunseokâs before you could make it back. His brows raised just a fraction at the contact, looking like he wanted to say something but you didnât give him the chance as you disappeared behind your door once again.Â
Back in your room, Sungchan stood stupified by your sudden change in behavior.Â
âAre you okay?â He asked warily as he watched you ignore him and walk towards your closet. You found his hoodie neatly folded on the ledger at the top and took hold of it.
âIâm fine,â You spoke in a clipped manner as you held the garment out for him, âThank you again for letting me borrow this. You must be busy. Should I walk you out?â Sungchanâs brows furrowed at your words as he took his hoodie from you. His expression only contorted into even more confusion as he noticed how your hands were trembling and you avoided his eyes. He spoke your name softly, setting his hoodie onto your desk before reaching out for you. When your body stiffened at the action, he pulled his hand back to his side.Â
âDidâŠDid I do something?â His voice was low, mindful of the people outside. You shook your head, still trying to process that youâd basically overshared your relationship problems with Eunseok to one of Eunseokâs friends. Sungchan was quiet for a moment, waiting for you to speak as he noticed you tapping your hand against your thigh nervously.Â
âI..â You sucked in a breath, voice coming out small, âCan you please not tell Eunseok about what we talked about last time?â Sungchan was taken aback by your request, looking back towards your door where Eunseok sat on the other side before turning back to you. His confusion lasted only a few moments though as he began to put two and two together.Â
His lips parted in shock, âIs Eunseok the guy?â You gave him a quiet yes in response and Sungchan could only sigh at that as he ran a hand through his hair.
âI know I must look really stupid right now,â You began, forcing Sungchanâs attention back on you and the way your eyes were welling with tears, âEspecially since youâre friends and everything butâŠCan you please keep it to yourself?â
âHey,â Sungchanâs voice was rushed but he managed to keep a gentle tone to it, âIâm not going to say anything and I donât think youâre stupid. This doesnât change anything Iâve said to you and frankly, Iâm just thinking how my friend is a real asshole right now and - oof â Sungchan felt the air getting knocked out of him as your body collided with his, arms wrapping around his middle as your face pressed into his chest. Quiet whimpers filled the air and Sungchanâs body was quick to relax as his own arms wrapped around you, rubbing down your back.Â
âItâs okay,â He softly whispered as you held him tighter. He stayed with you like that for a few minutes, listening to how your whimpers died out until you were just standing there quietly. His grip around you only loosened when you started to pull away, wiping at your face with the sleeves of your shirt.Â
âSorry,â You mumbled, glancing up at him through wet lashes. Sungchanâs breath caught in his throat at the sight of you before he shook his head.
âNo. Itâs fine,â He cleared his throat, âYou didnât cry as much as last time. Statistically, some people only start to feel better 3 months after a relationship falls through but look at you doing better after a week,â You stared at Sungchan silently, expression dumbstruck as his words settled into the air. Then, just as Sungchan was about to speak again, you were laughing.Â
It wasnât a quiet laugh either. It was one that shook your entire body, racking past your lungs and making your stomach hurt. You werenât even thinking about the people on the other side of the door as you wiped at the new tears in your eyes, these ones not formed from sadness. Sungchan laughed along with you, glad that you werenât crying anymore.
âWhat is with you and statistics?â You breathed as the laughter faded into quiet giggles.
Sungchan sheepishly rubbed his neck at your question, âI was a bit of a nerd in high school. My friends and I used to see who could learn the most facts in a day so I just have a bunch of stats locked and loaded in my head,â
You found his new revelation exceptionally endearing, almost forgetting about the predicament you were in just a moment ago, âThatâs really cute.â You offered Sungchan a smile and he couldnât help the way his cheeks burned at your words.Â
âThanks,â He nodded, eyes prying away from yours. He fidgeted in his spot for a moment before forcing himself to look back at you, âI really wonât tell him,â You sucked in a breath at Sungchanâs segway back into earlierâs conversation.
âI donât fuck with what he did and I donât want you to feel like Iâd take his side over yours just because I am his friend,â You nodded at Sungchanâs words, mumbling a quiet thanks. Silence settled between you again before Sungchan gently clapped his hands together.Â
âI should probably go though,â Your lips parted into an âoâ at his statement, âI do have all those groceries in my car and I donât want them to go bad,âÂ
âY-yeah,â You nodded, gesturing towards the door, ready to walk him out.Â
âOh!â He stopped you before you could, âThereâs something I know would drive him up the wall a little though. Is it okay if I try something if heâs still out there?â You were taken aback a bit by his sudden question but agreed nonetheless. Sungchan felt trustworthy enough right now.
So, as you walked out to the living room - finding that Hanaâs room door was closed and only Eunseok remained in the living room - you didnât think much of it. It was only as you opened the door, ready to bid Sungchan goodbye that you caught the mischievous grin on his lips.Â
âIâll see you later, okay?â His voice was so soft as one of his hands moved to cradle your cheek and before you knew it, his lips pressed against your cheek in a quick, chaste kiss. When he pulled away his smile was just as soft as his voice and with a final wink, he was turning to walk away, leaving you dumbstruck. You slowly closed your front door as he walked away, locking it before turning back to catch a glimpse of Eunseok simply staring at you. His expression was more shocked now but you paid him no mind as you scurried back to your room, ignoring how he started to call out your name before the door shut behind you.
Back in your room, you noticed that Sungchan had forgotten his hoodie.
[ to: jung sungchan (guy from the courtyard)
you left your hoodie. ]
You stared at your screen for a moment before changing Sungchanâs contact name. A few moments later, your phone buzzed with a response.
[ from: sungchan :)
i guess iâll have to come back for it another day.
i hope that didnât freak you out.

Another week had passed since your fall-out with Eunseok. The man still hadnât reached out to you and with each day that did pass, you were starting to think that maybe this was all for the best. Someone that didnât even check up on you didnât deserve to be in your life and certainly didnât deserve your tears.Â
Still, you couldnât help when the tears would fall. It was all still fresh and you swore that sometimes when you lay awake at night, you could still feel the ghost of his fingers on you and his warm breath fanning against your skin. It was on one of those nights that you had found yourself pressing your palms to your face in frustration before throwing yourself out of bed. A quick glance to the clock on your wall told you that it was 10pm and while you really should be sleeping so that you didnât die at your 8am lecture the next morning, you found yourself changing into a pair of sweats and rummaging through your closet for a hoodie. As your luck would have - or more so your laziness - your laundry had piled up and the only clean hoodie you had was Sungchanâs. Grabbing the garment, you wondered how he was doing. He also hadnât messaged you since your last run in but, in turn, you hadnât either. Itâs not like you really knew each other well enough to check in on each other and he was pre-med so you just assumed he had more important things to focus on.Â
Your fingers pressed into the fabric of his hoodie for a moment before you decided to throw it on over your bra. It wasnât cold enough for you to really need to wear a shirt underneath anyways and besides, it wasnât like you were going to wander outside for too long.
No, instead, you grabbed your backpack and decided to make the 15 minute trek to campus towards your favorite on-campus library. If you were going to be awake, you might as well get some work done. Despite being an education major, you really liked the biology departmentâs library. You had frequented it during your freshman year when you had to take a gen-ed biology class and maybe it was because it had become so familiar early on that you found yourself always coming back to it despite the education buildings being on the other side of campus.
You felt your shoulders sag as you walked into the familiar building, taking in the comforting smell of all the books. The building was dimly lit with just a few students occupying the tables inside. Your feet carried to the second floor, finding an empty table by the windows that gave you a clear view of the campus outside. It was like muscle memory as you sat down and emptied your backpack - laptop, textbook, earphones. You put the earphones into your ears, playing your study playlist before opening your laptop up to Canvas where you found a quiz that was due in a couple days. You fell into your routine quickly, head bopping to the songs that filtered through your earphones as you shuffled through your textbook for answers to your quiz. You went through each question without much issue, getting into a good flow as you answered every one in quick succession. You barely registered the person sitting across the table from you, shoving their backpack into the seat next to them. You did think it was a bit weird that someone decided to sit with you when you were sure you had seen so many unoccupied tables on your way up earlier but you didnât pay them too much mind. It was only when you had realized from the corner of your eye that this person hadnât taken anything out of their bag after a few minutes that you were glancing up at them.
Your lips parted with a small exhale when you registered Sungchanâs familiar face smiling at you giddily. Today, you found that he had opted for his glasses, fluffy hair falling over the frames. He tapped his ear lightly, gesturing for you to pull out your earphones.Â
âSungchan,â You whispered his name with a smile as you turned the music off and set your phone aside, âFunny running into you here,â
It really was.
A little weird too.
Not once in the last three years had you seen this man before your breakdown but this was now the third time in the last two weeks that youâd run into him on the off-chance.
He nodded towards your laptop, âWhat are you working on?â
âJust finishing up a quiz,â You shrugged, glancing down at your laptop to see that you only had 3 questions left, âI couldnât sleep so I came here,â
Sungchan raised a brow at your words and you knew he was wondering if your insomnia was Eunseok related. Not in the mood to make every conversation you had with Sungchan about your failed situationship, you changed the topic.
âWhat are you doing here?â You cleared your throat before throwing half of your focus back to your quiz. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Sungchan leaning forward over his elbows.
âIs that my hoodie?â He ignored your question, posing his own that had heat running up your neck as you remembered that you were, in fact, wearing his hoodie. Your eyes shot up to meet his and where you expected an annoyed look, you found his endearing smile. Before you could even begin to apologize for wearing his clothes instead of returning it like you had promised, Sungchan reached forward to grab onto one of the strings of the hood, giving it a gentle tug before letting it fall, âIt looks cute on you,âÂ
Your breath caught in your throat at his boyish grin and the way his eyebrows raised up for just a moment. You didnât know how to respond to him, lips pursing together as your cheeks burned at the compliment. So, you didnât respond and instead forced your focus back onto the last three questions of your quiz. Sungchan let out a quiet chuckle at your actions before leaning back in his seat.
âI was here for a study session,â He mindlessly tapped against the desk, finally answering your earlier question, âWe wrapped up a few minutes ago and then I saw you,â You hummed in acknowledgement as you progressed through your quiz.
âHowâd that go?â You glanced up at him for a second, taking in the sight of him slouched in his seat. He was wearing just a sweatshirt today, one that had the name of a soccer club embroidered onto it.Â
âIt was okay,â He shrugged, brushing a hand through his hair before mussing it up from the back, âMy brain is fried though,â
âOh?â You raised a brow as you answered another question of your quiz, leaving you with just one more, âIs the pre-med life getting to you?âÂ
Sungchan snorted at your words, âAnatomy and Physiology is tough. I want to see you memorize every bone in the human body and their position in relation to each other,â
You laughed at that, shaking your head as you finally submitted your quiz. Your score came back instantly, a triumphant 100% staring back at you. You turned your laptop screen towards Sungchan, âI think Iâm good where I am,âÂ
Sungchan gave a low whistle in response before remembering he was in the library. He nervously looked around the room but when it seemed that no one had really heard him, he relaxed.
âSo are you done for the night?â He asked, sitting up straighter. You gave a nod in response as you closed your laptop and book, moving to pack up, âCan I drive you home?â
You peered over at him, surprised by his sudden offer, âAre you sure? My apartment isnât that far and I can walk,âÂ
Sungchan was quick to shake his head, âNo, no. I know I told you about college crime statistics last time. I was glued to my phone until you texted me back that night because I was so worried,â Your brows pinched together with a smile at the new information and your shoulders shook with light laughter as you pushed your laptop into your bag. Sungchan watched with a fond smile, thinking to himself that laughter really suited you.Â
âFine,â You nodded as you stood up, slinging your backpack over your shoulders, âLead the way to Bella,â The man perked up at the use of his carâs name, a large grin spreading over his face as he mumbled a quick okay back to you.
Later that night, once Sungchan had dropped you home and you found yourself snuggled up under the covers of your bed, you found yourself texting Sungchan again.
[ to: sungchan :)
thank you for driving me home.
i promise Iâll wash your hoodie again and give it back asap]
[ from: sungchan :)
donât worry about it
and you can keep the hoodie.]
You blinked at his reply, brows furrowing as you moved to respond how you couldnât do that. Before your fingers could begin to write out your refusal, you saw the three dots pop up that signaled Sungchan was typing again.
[ from: sungchan :)
you really did look cute in it]
Safe to say, you went to sleep that night with cheeks that felt too warm for comfort and a weird buzz in your chest that you just couldnât place.

âCome onâ Hana pleaded, hands clasped together as she stood a few feet away from you in the living room two weeks later. In the kitchen, her boyfriend rummaged through your fridge for a snack. Both of them were dressed up for a frat party - one at the same house that youâd met Eunseok at. You were curled up on your couch, the tv show you were watching paused as Hana tried to convince you to join.Â
âI have plans already Hana,â You gestured to the television and your half eaten bag of chips in your lap. Hana whined your name in response before turning towards Wonbin, who was stepping back into the living room, taking a bite of a sandwich heâd found.Â
âHelp me convince her,â She frowned, patting his arm frantically.
Wonbin shrugged, turning to you, âEunseok will be there. You guys usually talk a lot when we go to these parties,â While he didnât realize it, his attempt to convince you was doing the exact opposite. Then, however, he said something that had you shooting to attention, âBut I think heâs bringing his girlfriend tonight so actuallyâŠâ Wonbinâs words trailed and Hana gave him an exasperated sigh, failing to notice the way your face had fallen from what youâd heard.
Eunseok had gotten a girlfriend?
âWonbin that doesnât helpâ She groaned, smacking his chest.
âOh,â Wonbin perked up as another thought came to mind, âYou know Sungchan, right? Heâs gonna be there,â
âThat tall hottie you brought over last time?â Hanaâs face lit up with recognition.
Wonbin feigned offense at her words, âIâm right here, babe,â Hana rolled her eyes at his words before turning to you again.Â
âIs there anything going on between you guys?â She was basically vibrating with excitement, clasping her hands together.Â
âNo,â You shook your head, grabbing a chip from your bag as you turned your show back on. Your answer wasnât a lie by any means. You and Sungchan had started texting a bit more - just a few check-ins from each other and the occasional random statistic from Sungchan. Youâd mentioned in one of your messages to him that you liked them and heâd started sending you at least one every day. Just earlier today, heâd texted you about how 20% of the mammal species on Earth are different types of bats. You smiled at the reminder and thought that maybe if Sungchan was going to be there, it wouldnât be the worst idea to go. And besides, if Eunseok could move on so easily, why should you be the only one upset over everything?
âIâll go,â You sighed, rolling up your bag of chips - much to the delight of Hana. She squealed at your agreement, telling you to get ready and that youâd head out in an hour.Â
Once you were back in your room, rummaging through your closet for an outfit, you decided to send Sungchan a quick text.
[ to: sungchan :)
what is the statistic for if weâll run into each other at this party?]
You set your phone aside as you got dressed, settling on a lacey cami top that tied at the front and jeans. You were in the middle of fixing up your make up when your phone buzzed to life.
[ from: sungchan :)
iâd say that thereâs a high likelihood for it :) ]
When you got to the party later that night, you found that the frat house was just as musty as you remembered from a year ago. You leaned against one of the walls of the house, staring out at the crowd as you sipped on the bottle of beer youâd grabbed earlier. Youâd been here for about an hour and that meant it had been exactly 47 minutes since Hana and Wonbin had slipped away to talk to their friends Anton and Sohee - both residents of this frat house. To Hanaâs credit, she had urged you to join them but you had declined, letting her know you were just going to grab a drink and chill.Â
Sungchan had texted you earlier, letting you know he was finishing up a study session and was going to head over with his roommate in a bit so you found yourself just waiting for him.Â
It was maybe 15 minutes later that you were wishing heâd hurry up because as you caught sight of a familiar head of short, messy hair you felt your heart drop. Eunseok stood on the other side of the house, lips parted in laughter as he talked to one of his friends and had his arms wrapped around a girl you could only assume was his girlfriend. She looked familiar and when you really thought about it, you realized that she was the same girl you had seen him with on the day he rejected you. You took another swig of your drink, trying to look away from the couple but finding that you couldnât.
God, this had to be like some stupid form of self-inflicted torture you thought. It only seemed to get worse though as Eunseokâs eyes drifted towards you. His brows raised in recognition and you sucked in a breath. Your hands suddenly felt clammy as you watched him excuse himself from the two and head towards you. The sound of the music blasting through the house dulled in comparison to the sound of your heart beat thumping in your ear.
Eunseok called your name once he was just a few feet in front of you, lips pulling into a hesitant smile.Â
âEunseok,â You nodded curtly, prying your eyes away from him and setting your sights instead on a group of guys pushing each other around not too far from where you were standing.Â
âCan we talk?â He stepped closer to you, forcing your attention back on him. You swallowed thickly at the lack of distance between you.
âAbout what?â You feigned innocence, earning a frown from Eunseok. He spoke your name again, tone a bit more dejected this time and you met his frown with one of your own, âWhat is there to talk about Eunseok? You and I are done and from what I heard, it only took you a few weeks to find someone you actually cared about,âÂ
Eunseok winced at your words before letting out a sigh.Â
âLook, can we just go somewhere private for a second?â He asked, eyes piercing into yours. You were hesitant, glancing around to see if you could spot Hana or Sungchan or anyone you knew for that matter and slip away. Eunseok seemed to catch onto your train of thought, grabbing onto your arm before you knew what was going on and hastily pulling you upstairs.
âWhat the hell are you doing?â You only came to your senses once he had ushered you into a random room, closing the door behind you, âYou have a girlfriend. What if she saw us and misunderstood,â
âItâs fine,â Eunseok crossed his arms over his chest with a sigh, âThereâs nothing going on here anyways,âÂ
You scoffed at his words, setting your bottle down on the desk that was pushed up against one of the walls, âYou made that clear last time Eunseok. So what the fuck are you doing now?â
Eunseokâs brows furrowed at your words and the harsh tone with which they came out. Youâd never spoken to him like that before, âHey, thereâs no reason to be mean,â
You couldnât help but laugh at that, disbelief clear in your voice, âYouâre one to talk about being mean. Last I checked, you and I should be acting like we never met,â Eunseok let out an exasperated groan as he met your sharp glare.Â
âYou know I didnât mean that,â He took a step closer to you and you met it with a step backwards. He froze, taking in a deep breath through his nose as he called your name again, his voice a little more gentle this time, âYou know I cared about you,âÂ
Your lips trembled at his words and you shook your head, âThatâs not what you said,â You voice became smaller as that night flashed before your eyes, âYou asked me how I could even think that you cared about me,â
âI was caught off guard,â He tried to defend himself, âYou told me you loved me and I never did anything to make it seem like I felt the same way while we were together,â
You felt a familiar lump forming in your throat at that, trying to swallow it down, âHow can you say that?â
âBecause,â Eunseok spoke with finality, âAll we did was fuck. Yes we talked after and yes you would stay the night sometimes but we didnât do much else outside of that. Even when we did hang out outside of that, it was because our roommates were dating each other. It was convenient â
You stayed silent at his words, wondering how he could equate every moment, every conversation, every secret that you both shared with each other as just convenient.
âLook,â He continued, letting out a low breath, âPeople like me arenât supposed to have someone like you, I think fate was being harsh on you.â
Your lips pressed together tightly as you nodded at his words, feeling your chest tighten and your stomach churn with nerves.
âCan you please say something?â Eunseokâs voice was softer as he stared down at you. You sucked in a breath, eyes squeezing shut for a moment before you looked back up at him.
âFine,â You cursed at the shakiness in your voice, âWhat does she have that I donâtâÂ
Eunseokâs face morphed into surprise at your words, lips parting but no words coming out.
âCome on Eunseok,â You laughed, the noise sounding pathetic in your own ears as you pressed a hand down against the desk, âYou wanted to talk about this right? So tell me,â
Eunseok sighed out your name again, bringing a hand down his face, âDonât be like this,â
âNo,â You shook your head, feeling all the pain and anger bubbling to the surface, âWhy donât you follow your own advice? Donât act like weâre friends right now and donât try to talk me down just to make yourself better. The only reason weâre having this conversation right now is because you know you did something wrong and you feel bad. Donât expect me to make you feel better about it when you already found another girl,âÂ
Eunseokâs jaw clenched, âYou found someone else too. What? Are you going to act like you didnât throw yourself at Sungchan right after we ended things?âÂ
Your blood boiled at his accusation, âHeâs just a friend, not that thatâs any of your business anyways,â Your eyes narrowed as Eunseok let out a laugh of disbelief. His tongue pushed against his cheek as he shook his head.
âYeah, because friends kiss right?â He tilted his head to the side with a huff.
You scoffed in response, head dropping for a moment as you started to wish you had just stayed home, âWell, according to you, we were just friends and we did a lot more than just kiss Eunseok,â
Eunseok was quiet for a moment before clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, âI didnât realize you were so easy,â
Your mouth dropped at his words, a huff escaping your lips as you stared at the man you suddenly felt was a stranger to you. The Eunseok you knew, or that you thought you knew, would never have spoken to you like this. As you registered the lack of remorse on his face you were settling with the fact that whatever you thought you had with him was completely gone.
âYou know what,â You spat, ignoring your budding nerves, before making a move to leave, âI hope you two are very happy together and I hope you and I never have to speak again,â You shoved your shoulder against his as you walked past him and out the door. Your breaths came out rapidly as you scurried down the hall, trying to put space between you and that room. You felt lightheaded and the amount of bodies in this house didnât help with your need to breathe. You shoved past everyone you came in contact with, mumbling out a series of apologies as the room seemed to spin and the music playing seemed to get muffled. It was only when you felt a hand grabbing onto your arm and heard the sound of a familiar voice yelling your name that everything seemed to suddenly clear. Your breathing was still off, the air feeling too stuffy, but as your eyes met Sungchanâs it was like everything else was clearing in that moment.
âHey!â He smiled widely as he didnât seem to notice your turmoil, âI was looking for you. I texted you I was here earlier,â
âSorry about that,â You forced a smile back at him, willing yourself to shake away your nerves, âI didnât realize,â
âThatâs okay,â Sungchan, ever so sweet, just gave you another grin before gesturing to the boy next to him, âThis is my roommate by the way. Shotaro,â The shorter boy gave you a quick wave in greeting and a small Yo. You met his wave, telling him your name with a nod.
âHave you been here long?â Sungchan asked but before you could respond you were flinching at the sight of two boys jumping onto Sungchan and Shotaro, their arms falling around their shoulders.
âYou guys made it!â The shorter of the new duo cheered.
âI thought weâd never catch you both at a party this year,â The taller one laughed, his voice softer than you would have imagined for a guy his size. He seemed to notice your presence before his friend, giving you a quick apology before introducing himself as Anton. The other boy followed his lead and you found that his name was Sohee. You remembered their names from Hana and Wonbin, finally able to put their faces to the titles.
You gave them a small nod, telling them your name before letting them know you were Wonbinâs girlfriendâs roommate. The two seemed excited enough to hear that before floating the idea that you should all take a shot together. When you had declined, they let out little whines of protest but didnât push you to join them again. Sungchan, following your lead, declined as well and the boys seemed to protest more vehemently at that but when Sungchan stood firm, they simply booed before dragging Shotaro away from you both.
âThey seemâŠexcitable,â You laughed, the absurdity of the last few minutes almost making you forget about your conversation with Eunseok from a few moments ago. Sungchan shook his head at your words, smile still gracing his lips
âYouâd think but Antonâs actually quite shy. He just gets giggly when heâs had some drinks in himâ He glanced back down at you, brow raising at how your shoulders sat tense and your hands were clasped together.Â
âYou okay?â He rested a hand against your back, thumb pressing against your shoulder to help you bring them down. While you tried to feign ignorance, the way your brows pinched together for a second had tipped you off. Still, you tried your luck.
âYeah,â You shook your head, hands dusting down the sides of your top, âI actually was about to head out. Iâm a bit tired and-â
âYouâre lying,â Sungchan was blunt but his tone wasnât harsh. You hesitantly met his eyes and you werenât sure if the way he looked so much like cared about what you had to say was making you feel better or worse, âDid something happen?â
You stayed quiet for a moment before shaking your head.Â
âI donât want to ruin your night,â You swallowed, âI feel like every time I see you Iâm always on the verge of tears,â
Sungchanâs expression softened at that, âYou didnât cry last time,â You knew that his words were an attempt to make you feel better but for some reason, they just made you want to cry more.Â
âIâm sorry Sungchan. I think Iâm just going to head home,â You mustered up a smile but Sungchan could only frown back at you. He was silent for a beat before shaking his head.
âNo, letâs go to my dorm,â He took hold of your hand gently, giving you enough room to pull away if you really didnât want to be in his company. When you didnât though, he gave your hand a quick squeeze and moved to pull you through the crowd. On the way out, he stopped for a moment and turned to face you. He leaned down, whisper-shouting how heâd be right back before disappearing amongst the groups of people. A few minutes later, you saw his head poking out over the crowd as he lifted a bottle of vodka that he had swiped. You raised a brow at him as he took hold of your hand again and pulled you outside into the cool air and towards his house that sat on the other end of the courtyard.
âWhat is the bottle for?â You asked as his hand shifted so that his fingers could link with yours.
Sungchan shrugged in response as his attention laid on the path in front of you, âSometimes people feel better when they drink,â
âIs that another statistic?â Sungchan looked over his shoulder at your question before shaking his head.
âNah,â His nose scrunched as he spoke, âJust speaking from experience,â
An hour later, you found yourself sitting on Sungchanâs bed while he sat at his desk, body slouched back against the wooden chair and his legs spread as he took another shot of alcohol. You found that his words were, in fact, right. You were feeling better already as your body buzzed with warmth and as Sungchan held out a shot glass towards you, you let yourself take it and get closer to that feeling. You grimaced at the taste and the way it burned going down your throat. Sungchan giggled at the sight and your eyes flitted towards his. His t-shirt was loose around his frame, collar laying in a way that showed the flush of pink skin below. He had opted to change out of the jeans heâd been wearing at the party and into a pair of sweat that rested low on his hips.Â
And then there were those glasses.Â
You wondered if Sungchan knew just how cute he looked when those sat perched on the bridge of his nose.Â
âSo,â He huffed as he sat up a bit, stretching out his arms with a tiny whiny, âDo you want to talk about it,â He blinked at you, face patient as you fidgeted in your spot. Your eyes dropped to your hands as your fingers circled each other.Â
âYou first,â You shook your head, earning a confused hum from Sungchan as he gestured for you to elaborate, âYou said alcohol makes people feel better and that you were speaking from experience,âÂ
He let out a small Ah at your words, eyes widening with understanding. You watched him curiously as his fingers tapped against his thighs before he was standing, the vodka bottle left behind. It was probably for good reason too; You both had taken quite a few shots in the last hour. He gestured for you to scoot over, which you did, allowing him to situate himself next to you. His shoulder lightly bumped yours as he crossed his arms over his chest and let his head fall back against the wall behind you both.
âI got cheated on last year by a girl Iâd been with since freshman year,â You sucked in a breath at the sudden revelation, listening to him as he opened up about his last relationship. Heâd met the girl during welcome week and theyâd both really hit it off, going on a couple of dates that same year before heâd asked her out. Things had been going well up until last year when Sungchan had gotten busier as he took on research opportunities and volunteering. His girlfriend seemed to think that he was cheating on her every time he told her he was busy. Theyâd argued about that point for months and after every argument, things would get better until they'd fall back into the same hole again. Then one night, heâd gone to her place after a lab class - after her roommate had texted him to come over -Â and he had caught her cheating on him with a mutual friend.
âI got really drunk a couple of times after that,â Sungchan shook his head, âShotaro was not happy one of the times because I had thrown up on a pair of shoes heâd just gotten,â
âAnd that made you feel better?â You raised a brow, your words making Sungchan laugh a little.Â
âYou know, not on that night,â He looked over at you and from how close he was, you could see just how pink his cheeks had gotten, âShotaro was really mad at me,â
âI bet,â You snickered, knocking your knee with his. He mimicked your action before letting out a huff of air.
âOkay,â His eyes stayed trained on yours, âYour turn,â He watched carefully as your lips pursed together, the memory of earlier events running through your head. He listened intently as you told him how Eunseok had found you at the party and how he had pulled you into a room to talk. His lips set into a frown as you told him the words exchanged between the two of you and his eyes widened as you told him how youâd gone off on Eunseok before heâd brought up Sungchan and insulted you, resulting in you rushing out before Sungchan found you.Â
âHuh,â Sungchanâs shoulders slumped as a light laugh, one that held no real humor, left his lips, âI guess I had perfect timing,â
You nodded at that, thinking back to how youâd run into him tonight and all the other times, âYou know you really do have a knack for showing up when I really need someone,â
Sungchanâs eyes crinkled in triumph at that, âI guess Iâm like your guardian angel,â You snickered at his comment before a comfortable silence settled between you. Your eyes traveled around Sungchanâs side of the room as you both sat there. He had some posters hung up, mostly of soccer teams you assumed he liked, and a cork board that had a few pictures of him and his friends pinned on it alongside some sticky notes that were scribbled with reminders. His desk was messy, mostly taken up by stacked textbooks and piles of notes.
âYou know Iâm proud of how you handled that,â Sungchanâs voice pulled your attention back to him. He bumped his shoulder against yours as he looked forwards, âDonât know if that means much since weâve only known each other for like a month but I am. Iâm glad you stood up for yourself and I donât think you're anything like what Eunseok said to you,â
You blinked up at Sungchan, lips wobbling just a little as his words settled in. You were really trying not to cry tonight but the combination of the alcohol and Sungchanâs kind words were making that really difficult and soon enough you felt the first tear slip through. The man hadnât even realized that you had started crying until he heard you sniffle. His head whipped towards you, eyes wide.
âHey,â His body turned to face yours, hands coming up to cup your face. His thumbs swiped against your cheeks, gently brushing away your tears, âItâs okay,â You nodded at his words, blinking up at him through wet lashes as you took a wobbly breath.
âI know,â You spoke softly, bringing one of your hands up to cover his, âI just really needed to hear that,â Sungchan smiled down at you, a sigh of relief leaving his body as his eyes roamed over your face. It was only for a second but you felt the air between you shift as his eyes dropped to your lips. Youâd caught the movement almost instantly and as his eyes moved back up to meet yours, he knew you had too. No words were exchanged between you as your hand slowly brought his down to your waist, just beneath the loose fabric of your top. His fingers flexed against the warmth of your skin, his other hand following suit as you shifted towards him. He helped you move atop his hips, breath stuttering as your weight settled against his body. Your hands came up to rest against his shirt, fingers splaying against the soft fabric. Your chest rose and fell with nervous, charged breaths as you stared down at Sungchan. His eyes roamed over your body above his and the expanse of your skin. He couldnât help the quiet whine that left his lips at the sight of your hips pressing down against his and you felt a shiver run down your spine at the sound. You slowly rocked your hips forward in an experimental movement, feeling your chest stir as Sungchan bit back a groan, his eyes shutting closed and head falling backwards with a thump. His fingers tightened their hold on you, keeping you in place as he peeled his eyes open and peered at you from behind his glasses. Everything felt hot and you werenât sure how much of that was because of the alcohol and how much was because of Sungchan. All you did know was that your body was buzzing as he continued to look at you as if you were the most mesmerizing thing heâd ever seen. One of his hands slid up the side of your body, fingertips memorizing the curve of your body before they found their place against your cheek. You swallowed as he leaned forward, the space between your lips disappearing until you felt his breath fanning against your skin. You could hear your heart beat in your ears as his eyes flickered up to yours for a second, silently asking for permission to kiss you. You only answered by leaning closer to him, nose brushing against his. His lips were just about to press against yours, barely a few millimeters apart when you heard the tell tale sound of keys jingling against the roomâs door.Â
It was instant the way you both came back to your senses, heads whipping towards the door and then back to each other before you were scrambling apart. You launched yourself off of the bed, settling quickly into the chair Sungchan sat in earlier while he pat down his shirt, smoothing out the wrinkles.Â
Shotaro emerged into your room a moment later, stopping in his tracks as he caught sight of you.
âOh hey,â He offered you a quick wave before looking over at his roommate with a brow raised in question.
âUh..â Sungchan cleared his throat, âShe wasnât feeling very well,â Despite the lame excuse, Shotaro seemed to buy it, snorting as he mumbled how Sungchan should have been the one on the wooden chair and you in the bed.
âChivalry is dead,â He shook his head as he set his wallet and keys down on his desk before turning to you, âSo are you staying the night?â Your face burned at the question even though you know Shotaroâs words didnât hold any assumptions or intentions.
You quickly shook your head, standing up and frowning as you felt the rush of alcohol in your veins. This was really a horrible time for the vodka to hit. Sungchan sat up at the sight of your wobbly stance but you sent him a warning glance before turning back to Shotaro, âMy roommateâs probably still at the party. Iâm just going to ask her to take me home. It was nice meeting you Shotaro,â You turned back to Sungchan, breath caught as your brain scrambled for something to say to him as you stood there, still feeling the ghost of his fingers on your waist, âIâll see you later Sungchan,â
Before the boy could even say anything, you were making a beeline for the door.
Your thoughts were askew, adrenaline pumping through your body as you trudged outside, hasty fingers pulling up Hanaâs contact on your phone as you called her to let her know you needed to go home.Â
You barely registered Sungchanâs name popping up on your phone after you ended your call, agreeing to meet Hana outside of the party house.

You tried to avoid Sungchan after that night, feeling so unbelievably embarrassed by your actions that you had even screamed into your pillow the next morning. It probably wasnât your best idea as Hana and Wonbin, who had spent the night, burst into your room with pans in hand and they thought someone had broken in.
Unfortunately for you, your efforts to steer clear of the man were for naught. It only took five days for you to come face to face with Sungchan on the one day that you had finally decided to go to the gym. You had specifically gone at a different time from when youâd run into him at the grocery store, having thought of the possibility of him being there. That didnât seem to matter though as he still showed up.
The whole interaction was awkward. You offered him a stiff wave and he mirrored your movement.Â
âHey,â You sucked in a breath as you gripped your water bottle tightly.Â
âHey,â Sungchan gave you a clumsy smile, âHow are you?âÂ
âIâm good,â You nodded, blinking up at him ,âYou?â
âAlso good,â He replied, swallowing down the awkward air.
âGreat,â You pursed your lips together, only able to stand there for one more second before you were excusing yourself with the notion that you had to finish your workout.
It was safe to say that you did not go back to the gym after that but still, you managed to run into Sungchan again two days later. This time, he was the one to approach you.Â
You had been studying at a cafe on campus during a break you had between two of your classes. It was the lunch rush at this time so you always made sure to dash to the cafe after your first class to grab a table before they filled up. It was routine for you and you hadnât expected Sungchan to show up since he never had before. This day, however, you found yourself dumbstruck as he slunk into the seat across from you as you reviewed one of your lectures. He offered you a boyish grin in greeting, asking if it was okay for him to join you. You could only nod in response before watching as he pulled out his laptop.Â
It was weird at first but neither Sungchan nor you mentioned what had happened in his room the night of the party. Instead, Sungchan had brought up another random statistic heâd learned recently - something about how 11% of people are left handed. You raised a brow at his segway to a conversation and Sungchan only met your inquisitive star with his own hopeful one. His expression only brightened as you took the bite, asking if he knew anyone who was left handed. From there it was like an unspoken agreement that you werenât going to talk about what happened.
Months passed like that with unplanned run-ins and ignored feelings. Whether it was at the library, the campus bookstore, or even one time at a comedy show that Hana dragged you to, Sungchan would somehow spawn like magic.Â
You felt the charge in the air every time you were with him. It was unlike what you felt with Eunseok. With him, it didnât feel like this. It didnât feel like the air would get thicker when you were around him, it didnât feel like your heart was going to thump so hard that you were scared it would beat right out your chest, it didnât feel like you could melt from the warmth that tingled down your skin.Â
It didnât feel so all encompassing.Â
If you werenât so scared to admit it, youâd say that you were falling for Sungchan.Â
You couldn't do that though. You hammered it in that this time you two were just friends and you didnât dare to cross the line with any assumptions even when Sungchan would look at you with a smile so fond that your breath would stutter or when heâd help you prep for your classroom practicals with such care that you couldnât believe someone could be so attentive or even when heâd adjusted the passenger seat of his car so that it was set to your preferences.
Sungchan was just a really nice friend - you told yourself that even if you didnât believe it.
So, when the opportunity to be a really nice friend to him presented itself to you, you were taking it without a second thought. Shotaro had reached out to you with a proposition of a surprise party for Sungchan after he had been accepted to medical school. You had already congratulated the boy privately when heâd told you himself, having practically jumped him with joy when he dropped the news on you one night at the library. You had been shushed by several students to the point where you had to end your study session early so you could pull Sungchan outside and engulf him in a tight hug. Your arms had wrapped themselves around his shoulders as you squealed in his ear. Sungchan could only laugh with mirth as his own arms placed themselves around your waist and his face buried itself against your shoulder. You remembered giggling at the feeling of his hair tickling your skin before pulling away to tell him how proud you were of him. His face was struck with awe as he stared down at you that night before he had pulled you in for another hug, gently rocking your bodies back and forth.
With this party now, however, you and Shotaro wanted Sungchan to be able to be celebrated by all of his friends. So, thatâs how you found your apartment filled with a bunch of people that you didnât know well but who knew Sungchan well enough - at least per Shotaro.Â
When you looked around, you only recognized a handful of people. Anton and Sohee stood in your kitchen, munching on some of the snacks youâd set up on the kitchen counter. They were talking with Seunghan, Sungchanâs physiology lab partner that youâd met a few times when youâd met up at the library. Then in the living room sat Wonbin, Hana, Eunseok, and Shotaro. Despite your great distaste for Eunseok, you hadnât barred Shotaro from inviting him - mostly because no one besides Sungchan knew what had happened between you but also because he was still, somewhat, Sungchanâs friend. From what Sungchan had told you before, the two had been regular gym buddies after they met back during freshman year. It wasnât like he could just ice him out either when their friend group mixed so much.
You told yourself you were mature enough to face him for Sungchanâs sake and as he sat in your living room, you were really believing it as not a single pang was felt in your chest at the sight of him. Still, you couldnât help greeting him with a frown before promptly ignoring him for the rest of the night - an action that raised eyebrows from Hana and Wonbin.
Around the rest of your apartment, small clusters of people were scattered, waiting for Sungchan to arrive. You had texted the boy that you needed him to help you change a ceiling light that maintenance had been neglecting and he was supposed to arrive at 7PM. Currently, it was 6:58PM so he was expected at any minute.
You were in the middle of a conversation with one of Sungchanâs soccer buddies, Taeyong, who youâd met only minutes earlier when your doorbell rang. Shushes filled the space as everyone clamored into positions, crouching onto the ground as you flipped the lights off, hiding them from view.
You opened the door slowly, a smile tugging onto your lips as the image of Sungchan and his signature glasses came into view. He met your smile with one of his own before looking behind you at the darkness with surprise.Â
âWow,â He entered your apartment, letting his eyes adjust to the dark for a moment as you closed the door behind him, âYou werenât kidding when you said they were neglecting your lights. You could only giggle at his words, missing the sight of Sungchanâs brows rising in confusion. He had expected you to be more frustrated in this situation.
His confusion only grew when you flipped the lights on and he was met with the sight of an apartment full of people. In another second, every person jumped to their feet, yelling out a loud chorus of Surprise!Â
Sungchan turned to you, bewilderment still written on his face, âItâs not my birthday. You know that right?â
âI know,â You rolled your eyes, âShotaro and I planned this since you got into medical school,â At that, Sungchanâs eyes sparkled in understanding and his lips slit into a blinding grin.
âReally?â He glanced at you before turning towards the group of his friends.
Sohee was the first to speak up, âIâll be expecting some free check-ups in the future Dr. Jung,â After that, it was one congratulations after another as Sungchan was pulled into countless conversations. You grinned at the sight of him, letting yourself slink off to the living room to sit with Hana and Wonbin who were conversing about their weekend plans. Eunseok had disappeared from your line of sight at some point too - to your delight - probably mingling with some of the others around.
An hour had to have passed before you realized you didnât have your phone on you. You must have left it in your room and moved to go grab it, but not before your eyes caught Sungchanâs. He perked up as he tried to wave you over to him from across the room. You mouthed that you would be right back and although a pout made its way onto his lips, he was sending you a nod. You snickered at his mannerisms before heading into your room, quickly finding your phone before you went back out to the party. Sungchan wasnât at the same spot youâd seen him just a moment prior, instead having moved to the kitchen where Shotaro was pouring him and a few others a round of shots. Â
You decided to let him have the moment with his friends instead of joining him. You were sure to run into him again tonight at some point. It was a small apartment after all.Â
For some reason though, the stars werenât lining up. Despite you and Sungchan running into each other randomly for months, you somehow couldnât find a single moment with him now as he kept getting swept up. His eyes would meet yours every now and then and you had to hold back your laughter every time he sent you a look that just screamed help me when heâd get roped into another shot by his friends.Â
By the time the clock had struck 11PM, some people had started to go home and it was only as you were starting to be able to count the heads in the apartment that Sungchan was finally finding you. You were in the middle of a heated conversation with Sohee about which Justin Bieber song was the best when you felt his hand wrap around your wrist.Â
âIâm going to steal her for a bit if you donât mind,â Sungchan didnât even wait to hear if Sohee did mind as he started to drag you away, pulling you past the people in your apartment and out the front door.Â
You looked at Sungchan in confusion as you two now stood outside in the hallway.
âWhat are we doing?â You watched him curiously as he stared down at you, bringing a hand up to smooth down the ends of his messy hair.
âI wanted to tell you a statistic,â He shrugged and you couldnât help but snort in response before gesturing for him to continue. He sucked in a sharp breath as he clapped his hands together and you jumped at the loud sound. He mumbled a sheepish sorry before clearing his throat, âDid you know that research shows that some people can develop romantic feelings for someone within 3 to 4 months?â
âOh,â You nodded at the fact, âThat's a cool one. I think I might like the ocean one you told me the other day better though,â
Sungchan jerked his head in surprise, obviously not expecting that response from you, âThe one about 50-80% of Earthâs organisms residing in the ocean?â You nodded and Sungchan couldnât help but pinch the bridge of his nose, âOkay, but this oneâs a really good one too,â
Your brows furrowed at his sudden insistence, âI mean I guess?â
âYeah and you know,â You watched as Sungchanâs hand tapped against his side nervously, âWeâve been friends for longer than that,â
âYeah?â You questioned, unsure where Sungchan was going with this.
He gave you an exasperated look, shoulders slumping as you were missing his point completely, âYou canât be serious right now,â He let out a huff of breath, hands coming to his hips as his head fell back so he could look up at the ceiling. When he lifted his head again, you found that his face was dusted with an unmistakable shade of pink and his lips were pressed into a nervous line.Â
âI like youâÂ
You froze at his sudden proclamation, lips parting in shock as your eyes searched for any indication he was messing with you. As he met your stare with a determined look, you settled on the notion that he was serious. Still you found yourself struck with silence, brain struggling to come up with any reply to his words.
Sungchanâs face fell at your lack of response and from the look on his face, you knew he was assuming the worst.Â
âLook,â His eyes dropped to the ground, âI know you think we arenât right for each other, but weâve run into each other too many times for you to tell me that this isnât fate. And I donât think I can pretend anymore that I donât have feelings for you,â Heat creeped up your cheeks as he continued to ramble, âI know we didnât meet on the best of terms and that maybe youâre still getting over the whole thing with Eunseok but I really donât know how much longer I can keep from kissing you when youâre next to me,â
Silence hung in the air between you as you processed everything he had just said.
âSay something,â He frowned as you just stood there.Â
âI..â You swallowed, mind running with a million thoughts âI donât know what to say,â
It was the truth. You really hadnât expected this from Sungchan but you couldnât say that you hadnât hoped he felt this way at some point in the last few months.
Sungchanâs face fell as your words settled and he gave you a quick nod, âRight,â
âWait, Sungcha-â You felt panic as he started to come to the wrong conclusion, one where you didnât feel the same.
âNo,â He was quick to shake his head, âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have sprung that on you,â
âNo, thatâs no-âÂ
He cut you off again, much to your frustration, âIâm just going to go. Thank you for the party,â You stood dumbfounded as he brushed past you, giving you no time to clear up this massive misunderstanding as he disappeared around the corner.Â

[ to: sungchan :)
iâm going to drop off your hoodie]
Youâd texted Sungchan at 1 in the morning, long after all the partygoers had gone home. You sighed as you recalled your very awkward excuse from before as to why Sungchan had gone home early from his own party. Youâd told everyone that he had stomach issues and had a problem using other peopleâs bathrooms. You werenât sure how many people believed you considering they all knew Sungchan longer than you had and probably would have noticed if he truly had a problem like that. If anyone did think you were full of it, they didnât say anything. You did notice the wild look of bewilderment on Shotaroâs face though.Â
That really didnât matter now though as you trudged over to Sungchanâs dorm, his hoodie draped over your figure. Your phone buzzed to life as you walked through the start of Sungchanâs housing community.

You rolled your eyes at his response.

You smiled triumphantly before pocketing your phone in the pocket of your jeans. Moments later, you caught sight of Sungchan emerging from his house. He was clad in an oversized black hoodie and matching sweats. You watched as he adjusted his glasses, squinting as he took in the sight of you.Â
âWhy are you wearing it?â He frowned, âI thought you were going to wash it first,â
You deadpanned at his words, unable to believe that of all things he could have said right now, thatâs what he chose to say. When he came closer and you caught sight of his puffy eyes, however, your expression softened.
âIâm not giving it back,â You shook your head and Sungchan furrowed his brows in response.Â
âYou came all the way here to tell me that? After I just confessed to you?â He seemed to be full of disbelief and for a moment you swore you thought he was contemplating his feelings for you.
âNo,â You shook your head, âI came here to tell you that you are an idiot,â You ignored the squawk of offense that rose from Sungchanâs throat, âYou know if youâre going to be a doctor you really need to work on your communication and your critical thinking. You didnât even give me a chance to respond back there,â
Sungchanâs brows furrowed together, âI swear there was literally a yearâs worth of silence between us earlier,â
You frowned at that, lips pinching together, âI was shocked Sungchan and itâs not my fault you ran off,â
âAbout that,â Sungchan raised a finger as he recalled something Shotaro told him when he came home, âDid you really tell everyone I couldnât use other peopleâs bathrooms?â
âDoes that really matter right now?â You sighed.Â
Sungchan was quiet for a beat before nodding, âA little bit, yeah,â
You shook your head, willing yourself to calm down before looking up at Sungchan, âYou really are an idiot,âÂ
Before Sungchan could respond, your legs pushed yourself forward. You grabbed at the material of his hoodie, pulling him down to meet you as you leaned in so that your lips met his. You felt his body freeze against yours for a moment but it wasnât long before Sungchanâs arms wrapped around your waist and he was kissing you back. You sighed against him, melting into his body as his soft lips met yours over and over again.Your chest buzzed with warmth as his hands slowly slid up your body before cradling your cheeks. He angled your head up, giving him better access to kiss you. You felt him smile against your lips before his tongue ran over your bottom lip but before the kiss could become too heated, you pulled away. You giggled as Sungchan chased your lips and you pressed your hand firmly against his chest to keep him back. You almost rethought your actions as he whined at the loss of contact but you had to make sure there were no misunderstandings first.
âSungchan,â You panted, catching your breath as you tried to recall the statistic you had looked up before leaving your apartment, âDid you know that when you like some one, chemicals associated with the reward circuit flood your brain and that can make people experience racing hearts and flushed cheeks and sweaty palms?â
Sungchan smiled down at you, eyes crinkling in amusement, âYeah?â His tone urged you to go on.
You nodded, pushing down your nerves with a laugh, âI think Iâm feeling all of that right now,âÂ
Your words hung in the air for a moment before a squeal vibrated against your chest as Sungchanâs lips suddenly found yours again, this time moving slower as he took his time in memorizing the way you tasted and the way your body felt pressed up against his. He kissed you sweetly, lips slotting against yours perfectly as his hands gently held your face. You continued like that, savoring the feeling of his kiss until you had to pull away for air.
âFor the record,â You panted, bringing one of your hands over his, âI never thought you werenât right for me. I justâŠI was just scared you didnât feel the same way and I didnât want things to end up like they did with Eunseok,â
âGod,â Sungchan groaned, pressing his forehead against yours. You giggled as his glasses knocked against your brows, âI donât want to ever hear Eunseokâs name come out of your mouth after I kiss you,â
You snorted at that, âWhose name should I be saying then?â
Sungchan rolled his eyes at your comment before pressing another kiss to your lips, unable to resist when you were so close to him, âObviously your boyfriendâs,â
âDidnât realize I had a boyfriend,â You pulled back for a moment, a pout on your lips as Sungchan peered down at you with an unimpressed stare.
âYou do now. Itâs me,â You couldnât help but smile as he kissed you once again, âAnd I will be for a long time,â
âMhhm,â You sighed against his lips, âIs that another statistic?â
âItâs a fact,â

[ eunseok x reader; suggestive but no real smut; college au; angst no comfort; word count: 4.2k]
Youâd met Eunseok in some musty frat party your junior year of college. You hadnât even wanted to go out that night but your roommate, Hana, was insistent on you joining her, giving you some excuse about how she needed moral support because it was the night she was going to hook up with some guy she had been talking to. Incidentally, said guy was best friends with Eunseok. You clearly remembered the moment that Hana had pulled you through the crowded party, yelling over the music that she had found Wonbin as she nodded in his direction. When your eyes landed on him, you had given Hana a sneaky smile bumping her shoulder as you whisper shouted about how he was cute. Youâd barely caught the way her cheeks burned a bit brighter at your comment before you were looking back towards Wonbin but this time, your sights were landing on the guy standing next to him. His eyes were on you, staring back into your own as he raised the red glass of whatever he was drinking to his lips. You couldnât help but let your eyes rake over him. He was wearing a pair of loose jeans that ripped at the knee and a black tank top that clung to his frame, giving you a perfect view of his tan skin and toned arms. His hair was cut short but mussed up at the top in a way that actually worked instead of making it look messy. When your gaze trailed back to his face, you found he was still staring back at you but this time he had a small smirk on his lips, having watched you blatantly check him out. You swallowed down the feeling of getting caught as you found yourself standing in front of him not seconds later.
âWonbin!â Hana squealed as she threw her arms around the shorter boyâs shoulders and pulled him into a hug. You heard the beginnings of a conversation between them and Hanaâs laughter but couldnât make out what the two were saying as you continued to just stare at Eunseok. To your defense, he was doing the same thing. It was his turn now to let his eyes drop over your appearance, over your body, in a way that sent a shiver down your spine. You watched the slow blink of his eyes before he was looking up at you again. Neither of you said a word at first until you heard Hana say something about being right back before she and Wonbin were slipping away.
âO-ohâŠ. okayâ Your words trailed off as they disappeared into the crowd, leaving you with the unfairly attractive stranger. You spared a glance back his way for just a moment to see if he was still watching you but his gaze seemed to follow the direction of your friends.
You heard him sigh before speaking up, âSeems like theyâve really hit it off, huh?â
âY-yeah,â You mentally cursed yourself for stuttering as you tried to look anywhere but at him, âIâm glad Hana found someone she really likes,â
He hummed in agreement at your words, âWonbin seems to really like her too,â
You nodded at his words, still avoiding looking up at him. You werenât sure why you were doing that given you both had just played the longest game of eye tag a moment prior. You were completely oblivious to Eunseokâs watchful eye and the sly smile that lit up his face at your sudden demure act.
âIâm Eunseok by the way,â It was with that that you were finally glancing back up at him, suddenly feeling rude that you hadnât even introduced yourself. You gave him your name and a small nod.
âSo, what about you?â Eunseok watched as your brows furrowed at his question, âYou have anyone you like?â
âUh, not really,â You shrugged moving to Eunseokâs side as you felt someone moving to get by behind you, âYou know how a lot of college guys here are,â
Eunseok raised a brow at this, signaling for you to explain.
âYou know,â You dragged the word out hoping heâd understand but the quizzical look on his face was telling you he didnât. You sighed at this.
âA lot of guys here just want to fuck and dip but the funny part of that is that they arenât even good at it,â Eunseokâs eyes widened just a fraction at this and you couldnât help the laugh that came out in response.
âIs that something you can say from experience?â Eunseok tilted his head to the side.
You snickered, âYouâre going to need to get a few drinks in me before I tell you about my failed sex life,âÂ
A breathy laugh left his lips before he nodded his head towards the kitchen and took hold of your hand without warning. He caught the surprised look on your face, leaning in so that you could feel his warm breath against your ear and smell the musk of his cologne, âDonât want to lose a pretty girl like you in this crowd,â
Your heart stuttered at the low tone of his voice and your knees buckled as he pulled back with a wink.
You found that Eunseok was really easy to talk to, especially after a couple of drinks and a game of rage in the cage that you both had somehow gotten roped into playing. To Eunseokâs credit, heâd started drinking for you halfway through the game when he noticed you were looking a bit too drunk for comfort. To his fault, he did not realize that he had reached your level despite being able to hold his liquor better.
"At least we,â Your arm was hooked with his as you both stumbled out the front door for some air later that night, âAt least we didnât get the bitch cup,âÂ
Eunseok giggled at your words, head falling onto your shoulder so that his breath fanned over your skin and his hair tickled your neck. Even while drunk, it was enough to send a jolt through your body.Â
âYouâre cute, you know that?â Eunseok raised his head to look up at you. He was close enough for you to see the way his lashes curled against his eyelids and a very prominent tint had made its way over his face. You sucked in a breath, holding his arm a bit tighter as the world around you continued to spin.
âThanks,â You breathed out, trying to avoid looking at his lips as he grinned at you.
âSo,â He took a wobbly step back, keeping his arm linked with yours, âHave you had enough drinks to tell me about your failed sex life now?â You rolled your eyes as his free hand came up to make air quotes.
âYou seem quite curious,â You laughed as you tugged Eunseok forward so you could be free of the music that blasted through the front door. He followed your lead, letting his arm that was linked with yours snake around your waist as yours rested against his back.
You both found yourself in the courtyard that rested in the middle of all the dorm houses. It was an interesting layout really. There were frat houses, sororities, academic houses, and cultural houses all in the same housing area. You couldnât even imagine living in the Biology house that sat across from one of the frat houses.
You had to admit though that as you sat down in the cool grass in the courtyard that this area was not that bad. You could even see the campus gym peeking out from behind one of the houses. You made a mental note to drop by there on one of the days where the building didnât look like it was moving.Â
Eunseokâs knee knocked against yours, pulling your attention back to the man next to you. You noted that his hair was more disheveled now but it still seemed to work in his favor.
âSo spill,â He rested his palms in the grass behind him, letting his body lean back just slightly.
âYou,â You knocked your knee back against his with a breathy laugh, âare persistent. There isnât much to tell though,â You dropped your head between your knees, trying to ignore the way your head spun.
âIâve talked to some guys. We had bad sex. Then they become mysteriously busy,â
Eunseokâs brows furrowed at this, âLike they didnât make you come?â
You offered a nod in response, âIâm convinced the guys here are just challenged,âÂ
It was at this moment that you remembered that you had met Eunseok only because your two friends were into each other.
âIâm sure Wonbin is fine though,â You lifted your head to look over at Eunseok, âHana really likes him,â
Eunseok couldnât help but throw his head back in laughter at your words, regretting it almost instantly as he felt the rush from the alcohol you both had drank earlier. He didnât let it show though as he leaned back against one of his arms and let his head loll forward.Â
âFunny how you thought to defend my friend but not me,â He blinked slowly and while his tone was light, you felt the shift in the air. Your legs pressed together in a movement that Eunseok didnât miss.
âWell,â You swallowed, âI donât know you like that,â
âThatâs fair,â Eunseok nodded with a sigh, âDo you want to though?â
You wondered if Eunseok was always this forward or if it was just the alcohol speaking.
âIâŠâ You paused for a moment, taking in the sight of him under the glow of the light posts around the courtyard - messy hair, pink cheeks, pretty lips, and that fucking tank top, âI wouldnât mind it,â
You definitely werenât this forward without the alcohol.
Eunseok swallowed at your words, slowly pushing himself closer to you. Your heart was hammering in your chest as one of his hands snaked up your jaw before cupping your cheek. Your breaths were shallow as your eyes met his for what felt like the hundredth time that night and one of your hands moved to rest against his chest, fingers gently tugging at the fabric of his top.
âIs this okay?â Eunseok whispered, voice soft as he leaned in so that his breath mingled in with yours. You nodded in response as your gaze fell to his lips, wishing that heâd finally kiss you.
âWords baby,â He shook his head, âI need to hear you,â
You whined in response, earning a smile from Eunseok.
âYes,â You nodded once more, meeting his eyes again, âPlease kiss me,â
That was all it took for him to crash his lips against yours. He kissed you softly at first, testing the waters as he took in the feeling of your plush lips on his but the more he heard of your sighs and the more he felt your fingers tugging at his tank top, he felt himself wanting more. He shifted so that his body could move on top of yours, never letting your lips disconnect. You gasped at the feeling of the cold grass against your back and Eunseok took that opportunity to slip his tongue past your lips. One of his hands tilted your face up giving him better access to kiss you while the other trailed down your body to rest against your waist. Your own hands found his hips, pulling him closer. He groaned at the feeling of your hips flush against his, pulling away for just a moment to glance down at your bodies pressed together before his eyes flitted back up to your face to find your dazed expression and swollen lips.Â
âSo pretty,â He mumbled before letting his lips find yours again. Your skin felt warm and you couldnât be sure now if it was because of the alcohol or because of Eunseok but as his lips trailed away from yours and instead down your jaw and neck you were sure that each kiss was searing hot.
âEunseok,â His name came out a whimper as he sucked on the column of your throat and let his tongue run over the splotches of red that appeared.
It was the sound of Eunseokâs phone ringing that forced you both to pull apart.
His brows furrowed as he sat up, chest heaving as he took in the sight of you panting below him before he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
âWhat,â He answered harshly, frustration clear in his tone. You giggled at this and Eunseok glanced back down at you, expression a bit softer.
That is until your fingers slid into the belt loops of his jeans, gently tugging at the material. He sucked in a breath, listening to whoever was on the other line as his free hand came over yours, pulling your hand away before placing a kiss against your knuckles.
âThatâs fine,â Eunseok spoke into his phone, âShe can stay at ours,âÂ
With that, he hung up the call and shoved his phone back into his pocket. He let out of deep sigh as he stared down at you.
âThe world still spinning for you?â He asked, bringing a hand back to your cheek before pressing a soft kiss on your lips.
âNot much more than earlier,â You shook your head, bringing your hand over his.
âDarn,â He grinned, kissing you again, âAnd here I was hoping my kisses would make you dizzy,â
You giggled against his lips, âCocky much?âÂ
âJust trying to beat out these other lame guys,â He pressed a final kiss against your lips, pulling away to sit up again.
You moved to sit up too, prompting Eunseok to roll off you. As soon as you sat up you felt the dizziness again, âLooks like I spoke too soon,â
Eunseok chuckled as your hand reached for his arm to ground yourself, âWould you want to head to my place?â
You blinked at him, feeling your heart stutter at the proposition, âI-I would need to check with Hana. Donât want her to worry,âÂ
âWonbin was the one that called,â Eunseok tapped his fingers against his pocket, âThey went back to your dorm for the night and uhâŠâÂ
âOh,â You sucked in a breath, realizing that your options for the night were to go back to your dorm where your roommate was almost certainly having sex or go to Eunseokâs.
The decision was easy.
Eunseok didnât live too far from the frat house and despite the alcohol still coursing through your veins, you managed to make it there in one piece. As each minute passed, you were feeling the effects of your drinks a bit more and the heat in your body from before lingered even as you stepped inside Eunseokâs apartment.Â
He seemed to feel the same because as soon as you heard the door behind you click shut, his hands were finding your waist, turning your body around before pushing your back against the wall.Â
You sucked in a breath as his lips ghosted over yours and his fingers pressed into your skin.
âPlease tell me youâll let me kiss you again,â He looked at you desperately.
âEunseok,â Your hands ran up his stomach, feeling the flex of his abs before finding their way around his shoulders, pulling him closer so that you could feel the plush of his lips again, âI need you to do more than just kiss me,â
Everything happened so quickly from the way your clothes were strewn to the floor to the way Eunseok had you pressed into his bed underneath him.
One night turned into another, which turned into weeks, months, and almost a year of feverish kisses and roaming hands. Youâd never put a label on what it was that the two of you were doing and you were content with that at first. Being with Eunseok was easy. There was no stress and no strings attached.Â
You were just friends.Â
You continued to tell yourself that after every night that Eunseok had your legs hooked around his waist as he pushed into you. You told yourself that after he would so gently kiss your lips and pull you against him in the mornings. You told yourself that when heâd hold you close to him on the nights you were stressed about life and whisper that everything would be okay. You told yourself that when youâd lie awake after sex, talking to each other about your dreams in the quiet of his bedroom.Â
You told yourself that even when you felt yourself falling for him but you werenât sure if you believed yourself.
It was a little over a year after youâd met Eunseok that you were accepting the fact that you were in love with the man. You were almost positive that he felt the same way. The way that he looked at you, his stares always lingering just a second too long to remain friendly, told you so.Â
Youâd never worked up the courage to do anything about it though - never felt brave enough to ask him if he felt the same.
Until a random night senior year.Â
Youâd seen Eunseok that day on campus with another girl and while you tried to ignore the gnawing feeling in your chest, you couldnât when you saw him lean in to hear something she was saying and break into a fit of laughter. His eyes shone brightly when he spoke to her and you couldnât help but notice the way his knees kept knocking against hers.Â
You shouldnât have been jealous. There was no reason to be.Â
You and Eunseok were just friends.
You kept trying to tell yourself that even when he texted you later that night, asking you to come over.Â
It was like every night when youâd showed up at his door later. His lips were on yours instantly when the door behind you was shut. He mumbled something about Wonbin being out for the night as he kissed down your neck and collarbones. You sighed as he pressed his hips against yours, grinding against your body in a way that sent a jolt between your legs.Â
âEunseok,â You whimpered his name, hands finding purchase in his hair as you pulled him closer. Eunseok chuckled against your skin before pulling back to get a good look at you.Â
âBarely started and you're already a mess,â He grinned down at you and you felt your heart stop. The way he looked now was exactly the way heâd looked earlier on campus.Â
Eunseok noticed the change in your expression immediately, his own brows furrowing together in confusion and concern, âHey, whatâs wrong?â
âSorry,â You shook your head, trying to will away the invasive thoughts that screamed at you to tell him you loved him, âItâs nothing,â
Eunseok frowned at this, âItâs obviously not nothing baby. You look almost spooked,â
âEunseok, Iâm fine,â You tried to reason but with the way Eunseok was staring you down, you knew he didnât believe you.
âYou know you can tell me anything right?â He frowned as he brought a hand up to cup your cheek. You sighed at the feeling of his thumb running over your skin.
âI knowâŠI just..â You pursed your lips together, eyes dropping from his to the floor.
âHey,â Eunseok tilted your chin up, forcing you to look at him again, âTalk to me,â
He looked at you with so much care you felt like you could cry and as you felt the tears well up in your eyes, you thought you just might.Â
âEunseok,â You took in a deep breath, âWhat are we doing here?â
âWhat?â Eunseok blinked down at you, confusion written in his expression.
âThis,â You motioned between the two of you, âFriends donât do this,â You nerves stood on end as Eunseokâs hand left your body and he took a step back.
âWhat are you saying?â His words were suddenly guarded, brows knitting together.
âIâm saying,â Your hands curled into fists before opening up again, âIâm saying that Iâm in love with you,â
He met your words with silence and with each second that passed you felt like the ground below might swallow you whole.Â
âIâŠâ Eunseok swallowed, âWhat do you want me to say to that?âÂ
Your stomach dropped as he looked at you with a guarded expression, his words telling you more than enough on how he saw you.Â
You should have left things at that. You should have walked out and salvaged what you could have of your relationship.
Instead, however, you kept talking.
âDo you not feel the same?â
âWhat made you think I cared for you?â
As soon as the words left Eunseokâs lips, you felt heat rise up your neck and your mouth ran dry. Eunseok, to his credit, seemed just as shocked by the words that left his lips.
âFuck, thatâs not what I meant,â He sighed, running a hand through his hair, âI just- I donât see you that way,â
âI see,â You swallowed the lump forming in your throat, âThen what was all of this Eunseok?â
âWhat?â He asked, taken aback as you questioned him again, âIt was obviously just fun,â
You sucked in a breath at his words, âI was just fun to you?â
âWe were just messing around,â Eunseok shook his head, eyes scanning the distress on your face, âWhat made you think I felt that way towards you?â
âI donât know Eunseok,â You felt your voice get louder as tears welled in your eyes, âMaybe itâs the way you act towards me. Friends donât fuck and then talk about their life goals after. Friends don't hold each other the way you held me, okay? Friends definitely donât do everything weâve been doing. This wasnât just sex,â
Eunseok watched you with a stunned expression, âI donât know what you want me to say. To me it was just sex and you telling me you loved me, quite frankly, is making me kind of uncomfortable,â You couldnât help but laugh in disbelief, bringing a hand to run through your hair.
âYouâre joking right?â You stared at him, hoping to find something in his face that said he was lying. When you found nothing, you felt your heart shatter, âI was just sex to you?â
Eunseok sighed softly before speaking your name with the same tone, âItâs not my fault you thought this was more than it was. I never tried to make it seem like I loved you. You never should have felt that way,â
You were dumbfounded by his words.
âI never should have felt this way?â You posed it as a question, unable to hold back the scoff that left your lips, âEunseok, I didnât just choose to fall in love with you,â
Your heart panged as Eunseok met your eyes with an unreadable stare, like he didnât care that you were about to cry in front of him. He just shook his head again, licking his lips as he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes.Â
âWell you shouldnât have,â His voice raised, tone harsh as cold eyes opened to look back at you, âIf you were going to do this I just think it would have been best if we never met.â
Silence filled the air as you felt the weight of his words sink in between you. Your heart beat rapidly, the sound of blood rushing filling your ears. Your hands shook as you processed what he just said. Your eyes pried themselves from his and landed on the ground, unable to look at him any longer. You hadnât even realized you had started crying until the first tear drop fell against the wood floor below.Â
Eunseok spoke your name, slight panic in his tone as he took a step towards you.
âN-no,â You shook your head, holding your hands up to try and keep space between you, âYouâre right,â Your lips trembled as you forced yourself to look back up at him one more time. Eunseok sucked in a breath as he took in your pained expression.
âSince Iâm obviously such aâŠa nuisance to you, Iâll just go,â You nodded curtly, trying to force the growing lump in the back of your throat back down.
âNo,â Eunseok reached out for you but you were quick to dodge his touch, body jerking towards the door. He froze at that, only able to look in shock as you put distance between the two of you, âWait, please,â
âYou wonât have to worry about me, okay?â Your words were shaky as you ignored his plea and you mentally cursed yourself for sounding so weak, âItâll be like we never met. Just like you wanted,â
Before Eunseok could try and stop you again, you were grabbing the doorknob, prying the door open before rushing out. Your steps were frantic as you left his apartment complex and made your way out into the cold night. Your legs carried you aimlessly as you held your cries back, legs burning as you tried to get as far away from Eunseokâs place as you could.
It was only when you found yourself in a familiar courtyard that you let your legs rest, body crumpling down over your knees as sobs racked past your lungs and into the quiet air.

âHow could you think this wouldnât hurt me?â
âYouâre never going to be the same after this.â
âI just think it would have been best if we never met.â
âYou never loved me, did you?â
âI hope youâre happy.â
âYou couldâve- couldâve stayed. You couldâve helped me fix things.â
âThis isnât going to be fixed. Youâve ruined this for good now.â
âYouâre back in my life and I want to die again.â
âI hope you got what you wanted.â
âYou made me miserable and I still loved you.â
âDonât pretend like youâre not happy to see me like this.â
âDid anyone ever tell you how pathetic you are? Itâs incredible how low my standards are for you.â
âYou shouldnât have come. You canât be-â
âHand me the gun and Iâll kill him myself.â
âI shouldnât care for your life, but Iâm starting to and itâs becoming an inconvenience.â
âI canât help but think youâre a terrible person.â
âWe should probably stop talking forever.â
âTo say I âtolerate youâ is a vast overstatement.â
âIâm not coming home, donât look for me.â
âI couldâve died and you couldnât have cared less.â
âJust get out. I- I donât want you here, just leave.â
âHate me all you want. I know Iâm right.â
âYou live with so much guilt, I hope it drives you mad one of these days.â
âMy life was ruined because of one mistake. You were that mistake.â
âDonât pretend you havenât thought about your life without me.â
âThis isnât Romeo and Juliet, this is real life and I can go on without you.â
âYou donât own me, I donât belong to you.â
âI think youâre going to ruin me. Am I right?â
âWill you ever forget my number? No? Ah, because you still love me.â
âWhat made you think I cared for you?â
âDonât act as if weâre friends. I know how much you want to slit my throat.â
âLetâs not get angry. Letâs calmly and sensibly take this outside so I can ruin your face.
âWhy do you have to look at me like that? Itâs making me weak, please stop.â
âLook at me. I love you.â
âWhat took you so long? I missed youâŠâ
âI-I think we should go for dinner first.â
âI know youâre working, but can I come over because I miss seeing your face?â
âI never thought Iâd be so lucky, especially not in this lifetime.â
âAnd when youâre not around I keep thinking I might cry.â
âIâm asking because Iâve seen the way you look at me.â
âIâm tired and my bed feels so empty without you here.â
âI think Iâm in love with you and I donât know what to do.â
âI desperately want to take you out for dinner and slow dance with you until the sun comes up, but I also want to grip your hair as I watch you writhing underneath me.â
âIf you donât stop looking at my lips without doing anything about it, I will take you right here on this counter.â
âAre you going to kiss me or keep staring?â
âPlease just look at me while I confess, after that you can look anywhere you like, I swear.â
âDonât hesitate, just kiss me.â
âEverytime I look at you, I think I fall a little more in love.â
âI think you need to tell me the truth about how you feel towards me.â
âI shouldnât be allowed to be this happy.â
âYou keep saying that weâre friends but you look at me for a moment too long for that to be true.â
âNot only am I deeply in love with you, youâre my best friend.â
âI know you havenât done anything, but can you please stop looking so goddamn kissable, my parents are here.â
âThe things I would do just to see your face right now.â
âPlease come home, this doesnât feel right.â
âWill you stay the night?â
âHold my hand.â
âShall we- shall we go back t-to my place?â
âAre you awake? Oh my god I was so worried, holy shit I thought I was going to lose you.â
âCall me everyday, I just need to know youâre okay.â
âI know you think we arenât right for each other, but weâve run into each other too many times for you to tell me that this isnât fate.â
âThereâs always a place in my bed for you, I will wait no matter what.â
âPeople like me arenât supposed to have someone like you, I think fate was being harsh on you.â
âWhy didnât you answer your phone? It was an emergency, I needed to tell you I loved you.â
âThank you for loving me, I couldnât have been more lucky.â
âIâve fallen for you and itâs becoming difficult for me to get anything done.â
âAll I can think of is your lips on mine.â
âYou keep that photo of us in your wallet?â
âAll I ever wanted is right here in front of me.â
âDonât pretend that you donât feel the same way.â
âDonât leave me like that again, you scared me.â
âI never thought weâd end up together, but here you are confessing everything to me.â
âI canât be without you.â
âI hope we last.â
âDonât tell me you love me unless you mean it.â
âI want to love you like itâs our last day on earth, but you beat me to it.â
âThat night you kissed me and I thought I might melt.â
âThey told me that youâd break my heart but, holy shit, they never said itâd feel like this.â
âDonât act innocent, you had me pinned underneath you 5 minutes ago.â
âI just want you to be happy, even if your happiness doesnât include me, I just want you happy.â

part 1
You werenât entirely sure how you managed to get into this situation. It was absurd, really.
Here you were clad in your cleaning outfit which was just a pair of bleach stained sweats, your high school gym tshirt, and pink rubber gloves while your gym crush (and current bane of your existence) was kneeling over your tub just a few feet away in a similar fit and his own pair of matching pink gloves. Youâd given him the task of cleaning your tub while you handled the floors and the toilet for your âdateâ.
âIt smells pretty bad in here,â He scrunched his nose, groaning as he scrubbed the edges of the tub.
âBecause of your girlfriend by the way,â You rolled your eyes, barely sparing him a glance before lining the toilet bowl with cleaner.
âNot my girlfriend,â Wonbin huffed as he brought his forearm up to swipe his hair away from his face, âEx situationship, remember?â
âThe only thing I remember is how you snuck her into a room you shouldnât have even been in,â You shot back, earning a laugh that let you practically hear the smirk forming on his lips. You already knew you were going to hate whatever came out his mouth next.
âYet yesterday you seemed to remember where I usually work out in the gym,â Your lips pressed into a straight line at his remark , cheeks warming up as you ignored his words and moved to grab the mop and bucket leaning against the corner of the bathroom. Wobin could only grin as he leaned back against the tub, watching you begin to clean up the floor, your back now facing him.Â
Cute.
He watched as you meticulously cleaned the floor, eyes sweeping over every spot to see if you could find the source of the smell. Honestly, Wonbin couldnât believe the stench lingered this badly and it made him feel a little bad. Only a little, though, because teasing you here and now was so much more fun than staying at home and playing video games with his roommates.
âYou know this isnât an actual date right?â Wonbin blinked up at you, taking in how you were now facing him - mop in one hand while the other rested against your hip. A small frown was etched into your features as you stared down at him, âYou canât just sit there looking at me. You have to clean too,â
âSorry, sorry,â Wonbinâs lips split into another smile, eye twinkling as he moved back onto his knees, âJust had to sneak a few glances like you do at the gym,â
You sucked in a breath at his words, mumbling insults under your breath before pushing the mop against his knees.
âHey! Youâre getting my pants wet,â He whined, pushing the mop away as you tried to bump it against him again. His eyes flitted up to your face, lips parting in small awe as he watched a pretty smile make its way onto your lips.
âServes you right,â You snickered before moving to the other side of the bathroom.
âIâm here helping you and youâre attacking me with a mop,â Wonbin faked offense, pressing a hand to his chest before turning back to the tub. He felt like gagging as the smell seemed to get stronger.
âHey,â He called out to you, sniffing around, âIâm pretty sure the smell is coming from the tub,â
âThe tub?â You raised a brow, stopping your mopping again as you stared down at him.Â
âYeah, the smell is stronger here. It might be your drain,â He moved closer to the drain, taking a whiff before immediately backing away with a scrunched nose and a nod, âDefinitely your drain,â
âOh my God,â You gasped, taking a step towards him, âI never cleaned the drain,â
âYou didnât clean the drain?â Wonbinâs brows furrowed, voice going up an octave as he shot you a look of judgement.
âYou can not judge me,â You set the mop aside and grabbed the drain cleaner and brush from under the sink, âYou and Hanbin didnât clean it the first time either,â
âWell there was a lot to clean that day,â Wonbin muttered as you handed him the items with a scoff.
âAgain,â You shot him a look, arms crossing over your chest, âBecause of your girlfriend,â
âEx-situationship,â Wonbin corrected again with a roll of his eyes before leaning over the tub with a grimace, âAnd with the way this smell is never going to leave my brain, itâs going to stay that way,â
You let out a dreamy sigh at his words, prompting the boy to look back at you once again with a raised brow. He rolled his eyes as you batted your lashes at him and held your hands to your chest, already anticipating that you were about to fuck with him.
âWith sweet words like that, itâs no wonder the ladies love you,â Wonbin let out a breathy laugh at your tone, choosing to ignore your words as he finally began to pour the cleaner down the drain and scrub the mess away.
âUgh,â He cringed, face contouring into a frown that you mirrored as you watched him pull the brush out along with a layer of gunk.
âIâm going to puke,â Wonbin groaned, holding up the brush before tossing it into the trash bag next to the toilet, deeming it too far soiled to keep.
âPlease donâtâ You muttered loud enough for him to hear as you grabbed the bag, ready to throw it out, âI do not need a repeat of this,â
âOh?â Wonbin sighed as he turned on the water for the tub, let it rinse through the drain, âBut wouldnât it be so fun if we got to do this again?âÂ
You let out a snort at his words, âNever again Wonbin. Just finish mopping up while I toss this outsideâÂ
âBossy, I like that you know,â You watched as Wonbin stood up, sending a wink your way as he grabbed the mop, Your lips parted, searching for a retort but when Wonbinâs eyes stayed on yours, his head tilting to the side with a boyish grin, you felt every comeback fizzle out.Â
âOkay thenâ You nodded stiffly before quickly turning to leave the room.
Your face was warm, heart thumping as the image of Wonbin burned itself into your brain -Â pretty smile, tanned skin, blonde strands of hair falling over his forehead in soft waves.
It was unfair.
How could someone look so pretty while cleaning up old puke - and in a pair of pink rubber gloves no less?Â
âStupid Park Wonbinâ You mumbled as you scurried outside, barely catching the image of Hanbin peaking out of his room down the hall at the sound of your door opening. You paid him no mind as you had the last evidence of Wonbinâs exâs mess finally removed from your home.
You felt lighter with that thought as you made your way back inside moments later, hoping that this would be the last mess you had to clean up in your bathroom.Â
Of course, the universe wouldnât be so kind as to let your hopes come to fruition.Â
You were on auto pilot as you made your way back towards the bathroom, legs moving quickly so you could be done with whatever this thing with Wonbin was.Â
But you really should have looked where you were going.Â
If you had, you wouldnât have turned the corner into the bathroom and slammed into Wonbin, a shriek leaving your lips as your foot slipped on the wet floor and your knees gave out. Wonbin was quick to drop the mop with a clatter and let his hands find your waist, barely steadying you before you could fall. Your own hands grabbed at the fabric of his shirt in an attempt to find your balance.
You hadnât even realized the close proximity you were in at first as adrenaline pumped through your veins. It was only as you stood straighter that you realized that you could feel Wonbinâs breath against your face. And it was only when your eyes lifted up to meet his that you realized he was staring down at you. Unlike the playful (and somewhat annoying) looks heâd given you today, this time his expression was soft as his eyes ran over your features.Â
âYou okay there?â The corner of his lips pulled upwards as one of his hands gave your waist a gentle squeeze that had you sucking in a sharp breath. The intake was not lost on the boy as a small chuckle filled the space between you. Your eyes stayed locked on his, brain going blank as he met your stare with quiet confidence. It was only as he called your name that you realized you never answered his question.
âOh,â You blinked, eyes finally leaving his, âIâm-â
The sound of knuckles suddenly rapping against a door frame cut you off.Â
âI heard a loud noise. Is everything - ohâ Hanbinâs voice filled the air, grabbing both your and Wonbinâs attention. Your head whipped in his direction, eyes wide before turning back to Wonbin (who only looked too amused by the situation) and then again to your housemate. He stood by the door of the bathroom, mouth agape before his lips split into a grin, âSorry to bother. Iâm just going to go water my plants,â
As quickly as Hanbin had come, he was gone and you couldnât help but let out a whine knowing that he was definitely going to tell Sohee about this and knowing Sohee, the rest of your friends were going to hear about it too.
âHe doesnât even own plants,â You frowned, finally pushing yourself away from Wonbin for some much needed space.
âHuh,â Wonbin chuckled, pulling off his gloves as he spared a glance your way. He bit back a laugh at your flustered state, finding the way your lips pressed into a pout to be oh so cute.
âWell I guess I should expect some texts from Sohee later,â He sighed, rolling his shoulders back. His comment only seemed to irk you more as you let out another whine, mumbling under your breath about how Sohee wasnât going to let you live this down.
âI just know heâs going to make this into something when it isnât,â You groaned, shaking your head in dismay.
âOh? And what exactly was this?â You glanced over at the boy, his soft expression from earlier already gone in lieu of that signature smirk
âWonbin, don't start with me right now,â You waved a hand in his direction before deciding you needed more space and heading into the bedroom. To your disdain, Wonbin followed close behind you with a giggle that only irritated you more because not only was he laughing at this whole scenario that had you mortified but his giggle also sounded adorable.Â
It was like a tug of war the way your thoughts about this boy kept shifting.Â
You plopped onto the edge of your bed with a huff, letting your shoulders sag as Wonbinâs gaze roamed over the photos propped up on your nightstand - one of you and Hanbin on the day you moved in together and another of your parents. You watched him in quiet contemplation.
âSo,â He hummed, eyes flickering over to yours, âYou wanna grab something to eat?â
You raised a brow at his sudden offer, âWhy?â
âWeâre on a date right?â He shrugged, eyes lighting up as he watched your lips twitch at his comment, âAnd Iâm kind of hungry,â
You thought about the proposition for a minute, weighing the pros and cons before your stomach growled, pulling a bright laugh from Wonbin.
âShould I take that as a yes?â He tilted his head in anticipation and you couldnât help the sigh that escaped your lips.
âFirst of all,â You lifted a finger before gesturing between the two of you, âNot a real date and secondly - Yes, I could eat,â
Wonbin clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as his brows raised just a smidge, âFine, what are we eating?â
*
If you had been told a week ago that you would be pulling up to your favorite Thai place in the passenger seat of Wonbinâs Lexus you would have laughed in the face of the messenger. You would have never expected that to be your current reality.
His car smelled slightly sweet - almost floral. The air was set low as a R&B song you didnât know filled the space along with the sound of Wonbinâs fingers tapping against the steering wheel. You didnât say much during the drive, too tired from the day to have a real conversation. Wonbin noticed as much, leaving you to rest your head against the passenger window as he took a break from teasing you. Every now and then he would hum along to the music, his voice sounding soft enough to almost lull you to sleep.Â
If the drive was even five minutes longer you were sure you would have drifted off but as Wonbin parked in front of the familiar restaurant you took a deep breath and sat up. Your limbs stretched forward with a low whine and if you had been more alert, you would have noticed the way Wonbin swallowed at the sound.
âReady to go?â You nodded your head outside, earning a hum of approval form Wonbin before he followed your lead out the car and into the restaurant.Â
Wonbin knocked his shoulder against yours once you were inside, in line behind a group of teens.
âSo whatâs your go to?â He asked as he scanned the menu pictures hung above the cashier.
âUsually the Pad Thai,â You hummed in response, âYou can never go wrong with that,â
âIâll follow your lead then,â Wonbin nodded before his tone turned a bit more sing-songy, âYou seem like you have good tasteâ
âWhat makes you say that?â You narrowed your eyes at him, already expecting him to push your buttons.
âWell you like me right?â He broke into a shit-eating grin as he leaned a bit closer to you, face a few inches away.
âNot too much now Wonbin,â You huffed out a breath as you ignored the warmth of your cheeks, and pressed a hand to his chest, gently pushing him back, âYouâre just easy on the eyes but as soon as you open your mouth I canât even think straight,â
He raised a brow at your comment as he crossed his arms over his chest, âSee that still sounds like you like me,â
âWell youâd be wrong,â You quickly shot back, tone firm but holding no malice.
âWell that kind of sucks,â You watched a pout make its way onto his pink lips as he blinked back at you, âBecause I kind of like youâ
It was your turn to blink at him, brain short-circuiting at his sudden confession, âWhat,âÂ
You mentally cursed yourself for not being able to find better words, too taken aback with the way Wonbin was staring at you so seriously.
It was only as he snickered, nose crinkling with joy that you realized he was, once again, teasing you. It seemed almost second nature for this guy.
âYouâre fun to mess withâ He giggled, lightly tapping his foot against yours.
âYouâre a dick,â You met his tap with a kick to his shoe, which only served to make him laugh louder.
âBut still easy on the eyes?â The way his eyes twinkled with mirth and his tone danced with playfulness as he looked your way managed to pull a laugh from you. Wonbin seemed to only brighten at your reaction.
âYou know you have the biggest ego Iâve ever seen, right?â You shook your head, turning your attention to the teens that were now ordering their food ahead of you.
âDo you like that in guys?â His attention stayed on you as he continued his teasing. You glanced back his way and you werenât sure where the confidence came from with your next words, âNo, but you know, Iâve always like blondes with pretty arms,â
You couldnât help but grin as Wonbin sucked in a breath at your words.
âYeah?â Wonbinâs voice dropped an octave but somehow still held a soft edge to it. Your stomach flipped at the change in his tone, âWhat else do you like?â
You pretended to think about his question, sweeping your gaze around the restaurant as you did so. Wonbin couldnât help but anticipate your response as your lips curled upward in a pensive smile. It never came, however, as your next words got lost once your eyes landed on a familiar figure sitting a few tables away with a couple other guys. It was like whiplash the way Wonbin watched your smile drop and your movements still.
âHey,â His brows furrowed, following your line of sight towards the man who was now getting up and walking towards you two, âAre you okay?â He felt your body stiffen next to his as you sucked in a breath and quickly muttered something to him, quiet enough so that only he heard.
âThatâs my ex,â Your lips set into a straight line, âHeesung,â
Wonbin stood a bit straighter at the revelation and the sight of you looking so uncomfortable all of a sudden. He eyed up the man that made his way to you, calling your name with a familiarity that seemed to catch you off guard. A frown cemented on your face at the sweet smile he gave you.
âItâs been so long!â Heesung spoke cheerfully, âI havenât seen you in forever,â
âYeah,â You couldnât help but be wary of his casual tone, âBecause you cheated on me,â
Wonbinâs eyes widened at the new information, body instinctively moving closer to yours.
Heesungâs smile faltered for just a moment, eyes flickering towards Wonbin before finding their way back to you.
âCome on now,â He laughed, rolling his shoulders back, âYou canât still be upset by that. We were younger and it was just so long ago.âÂ
You didnât respond to his words, face instead twisting into disdain that Heesung didnât seem to catch.Â
Wonbin, however, did and you felt his hand press against your back in a gentle pat meant to calm you. Heesung caught onto the small act of intimacy, brow raising for a moment.
âYou know I missed you?â Heesung hummed in a saccharine tone that made you want to gag.Â
What were you even supposed to say to something like that - something so out of the blue and (you were sure) insincere.Â
Wonbin seemed to beat you to the punch as his arm resting on your back slid around your waist, sending a shiver up your spine, âShe didnât miss you,âÂ
âWonbin?â You glanced up at the boy, voice soft as you took in the sight of Wonbin staring down your ex.
âWho are you again?â Heesung snickered, looking almost bored as he met Wonbinâs eyes. Wonbinâs eye twitched at the tone and you felt his hand give your waist a squeeze, almost like a warning for his words.
âIâm her boyfriend,â You blinked up at him, lips parting in shock.Â
What the fuck?
âReally?â Heesung raised a brow, âWhereâd you meet?â
âThe gym,â Wonbin shrugged, âShe kept checking me out and I liked that,â
What the actual fuck?Â
You were going to kill Park Wonbin.
âThis guy?â Heesungâs attention was back on you and you could only blink back at him.
âWhat do you mean by that?â You spat back at him, your shock from earlier quickly turning into anger.
âI mean we were so good together and you followed up with this?â You looked at Heesung as if he had grown a second head before glancing up at Wonbin whose expression almost exactly mirrored yours.
âAre you being serious right now Heesung?â You shook your head in disbelief.
âIâm just speaking the truth,â He shrugged and the action only spurred your anger on.
âStop it,â You sucked in a breath, âFirst of all, we were not good together. You were a jackass and you cheated on me. You were manipulative and toxic and you told all our friends I was the problem so they would stop talking to me. You made me feel awful about myself,â Your voice shook as you remembered how youâd felt through the thick of your relationship and during the fallout of it.
âSecond of all,â You smacked a hand against Wonbinâs chest, earning a small âoofâ from the boy, âWonbin is better than you in every way,âÂ
You felt the eyes of some of the other customers in the restaurant turning towards you three. Your stomach churned at the attention.
Heesung seemed to catch on as well, letting out a nervous laugh. You knew he hadnât expected you to talk back like that. You were so much more meek when you were dating compared to now.
An awkward tension hung in the air and as whisper filled the restaurant, you decided you were no longer hungry,Â
âLetâs go Wonbin,â You didnât even give Heesung a chance to react before you were tugging the blonde out with you. As soon as you were outside with the fresh air, you felt like you could breathe. You didnât relax, however, until you were back in Wonbinâs car with the comfort of his tinted windows that hid you from the following eyes.
âWonbin,â You closed your eyes as you sank into the passenger seat, âWhat is wrong with you?âÂ
Despite your words, your tone was light. You knew the boy was only trying to help, even if his methods were interesting to say the least.
âSorry,â He sighed, turning on the car so that he could blast the AC, âThat guy was just suck a dick,â
You chuckled at that comment, opening your eyes to the sight of Wonbin sending you a small smile.Â
âSo,â You let out a sigh, sitting up a bit straighter, âYou like that I checked you out?â
Wonbinâs smile only grew as he rested his head back against the car seat, âWhy? Did you like hearing that?â
âIn your dreams,â You rolled your eyes, âBut thanks for trying to help,â
âWell I couldnât just stand there and leave a pretty girl in distress,â He shrugged, âEspecially after all of our bonding today. I feel like I really got to know you when you were scrubbing the toilet,â
âYouâre ridiculous you know that?â You found that Sohee and Hanbin were right about what they said yesterday - Wonbin was a pretty decent guy.
âAnd youâre kind of hot when youâre telling guys off,â

You remembered the first time youâd laid eyes on Wonbin. With the start of a new semester, youâd had to switch your usual morning gym routine to the evening so that it didnât clash with the plethora of 8am lectures youâd gotten stuck with. It was your fault, really, but you liked to blame your housemate, Hanbin, for it every now and then. Yes, you were the one that had missed your initial class registration window but it was only because you were helping Hanbin catch his pet hamster that had escaped from its cage. By the time you had found the little furball, registration had completely slipped your mind and classes had filled up.
And so, you found your usual 6am gym sessions turn into 6pm sessions.
You were trudging on the stairmaster when you first saw him, casually glancing up between steps when your eyes landed on the pretty faced boy with arms that had your mouth running dry. You were embarrassed to admit that youâd almost tripped on your machine, barely catching yourself before looking to the girl to your right with a sheepish smile as she sent a sideye your way.
Could anyone really blame you though? Youâd venture to say no, especially with the way pretty boy had lifted the hem of his shirt to wipe the sweat on his neck, giving you a glimpse of perfectly sculpted abs. You felt like a high school girl with the way your face flushed with a blush as you told Hanbin about him later that night.
âIâm telling you,â You let out a dreamy sigh as you plopped down next to your housemate in the living room, âIâve never seen someone so hot before in my entire life,â
Hanbin had simply laughed as you talked about your new gym crush and how youâd nearly fallen off the stairmaster because of it.
âHe must really be something to catch your eyeâ He hummed.
It was true, really.
You were pretty sure the last time you were into someone like this was your ex from freshman year but just the thought of him made you want to gag.
-
You also remembered the first time youâd actually met Wonbin. That experience was anything but pleasant.
âHey, back from the gym?â Hanbin called out from the kitchen as you walked into your shared house, finding three familiar faces in the living room. Jaehyun, Sohee, and Matthew were no strangers to your home but the wide grins they gave you were telling you that something was up. You gave Hanbin a hum in response before nodding to the three boys sat in your living room.
âWhatâs going on here?â You eyed them warily, setting your bag down next to the sofa, â You guys look suspicious,â
âWeâre planning a surprise party for Hao,â Matthew explained, watching as your expression brightened at the mention of Zhanghao. He was another one of Hanbinâs friends that frequented your place often and it was safe to say that he was one of your favorites from the rotation of people that flowed through your home.
âHe got the solo part for his concert!â Jaehyun nodded along, eyeing the way your smile grew wider.
âThe one he was practicing all last month for?â You questioned, hands clapping together as you made a note to call the boy later and congratulate him.
âYeah!â Sohee also took in your gleeful mannerism, thinking it was safe to drop the next vital part of this whole plan, âWe were thinking of having it here,â
It was like whiplash for the boys as they watched how quickly your face fell and how you walked over to the frame leading into the kitchen to give Hanbin a knowing look. The boy in question had a nervous smile playing on his lips before he opened the fridge door, pretending to look for something.
âHanbin,â You called, hands resting on your waist, âI thought we agreed no more parties after Gunwook and Taki broke my bed frame after sneaking into my room to do flips,â
The memory was so ridiculous it earned a snort from Matthew, followed by a smack that you assumed was either from Sohee or Jaehyun signaling him to not laugh.
âI know,â Hanbin poked his head out the fridge, still hiding the rest of his frame, âBut what are the odds something like that will happen again?â
You raised your brow at his question, âThe time before that, Sungchan dropped an entire case of soda on the ground and I swear to God this place was sticky for weeks,â
âYeah but-â
âAnd before that, Jaehyun here,â You pointed an accusatory finger back the trioâs way, âwas making out with a girl in my bed,â
âDude,â Sohee shook his head at his friend whose ears were now burning red.
âSorry,â He mumbled, sinking into his seat.
âI promise weâll be good this time,â Hanbin finally closed the fridge door, voice pleading, âNot one thing will go wrong. Besides, this is for Hao. Heâs never done anything wrong to you,â
âHanbi-â
âPleaseeee,â The boy clasped his hands together, voice going up an octave in a way that had you biting back a laugh.Â
Okay, maybe it would be fine to have just one more party at your place.

You were wrong. Dead wrong.Â
Not a week later, you found yourself laughing in your living room at something that Youngji was telling you as you both shared a slice of strawberry cake. The party had been going for a few hours at this point and it seemed to be a success. Zhanghao was completely surprised and the house had been packed. People, both familiar and unfamiliar, filtered through the house (except for your room that had its door shut and a makeshift sign that Hanbin had made plastered atop that read â KEEP OUTâ) as music blasted through the walls. The crowd had dwindled a bit from earlier but there were still a decent amount of people around.
Hanbin was sitting atop the sofa, chatting with friends that you recognized to be Gyuvin and the man of the hour, Zhanghao. A makeshift beer-pong table was set up in the kitchen and from your spot in the living room, you could make out the group of people swarmed over there. You swore you could hear Taeraeâs loud voice from where you stood, saying something about how he was the best at beer pong.Â
In another corner of the living room you could see Soheeâs friend Anton leaning against the wall as he talked to a girl you hadnât seen before. You wondered if he had brought her. Either way, if the tint on his ears and the smile on her face were any indication, the two were clearly into each other. And if the way Sohee and Seunghan were staring at the two in astonishment was any indication, this wasnât something that was common for the boy.
âWoah,â Youngjiâs gasp of astonishment caught your attention, head whipping back in her direction. Her lips were parted, eyes settling on something behind you, âWho is that?â
Confused by her reaction, you turned in the direction of her stare, only to mimic her actions as a gasp escaped you at the sight of the one and only pretty gym boy. Only this time, he wasnât in his usual gym attire. No, instead he was clad in some baggy black jeans and a button down shirt with the sleeves pushed up to reveal his forearms - one of which was hanging over the shoulder of a girl that looked a bit too tipsy.Â
âOh my God,â You swatted at Youngjiâs arm in hushed excitement, âThatâs the guy I told you about earlier. The gym guy!â
âOh my God!â She matched your words, leaning in to you, âHeâs cute!â
âYeah,â You sighed, chancing another look his way, âI wonder when he got here and who invited himâŠYou think he came here with that girl?âÂ
âIâd bet good money on it given the way sheâs pressed up to himâ Youngji frowned with a huff, âI swear all the cute guys are always taken and somehow always are linked to Sung Hanbin,âÂ
You raised a brow at her words, laughing lightly before you thought about it and concluded that she was right given how many of them were in your home right now. You made a mental note to ask him about the pretty gym boy later.
âMaybe I should ask Hanbin to set me up with someone,â You hummed, missing the way Youngjiâs eyes were widening.
âAre you serious?â She basically bounced on her heels, âYou havenât gone out with anyone since Hee-â
âAh,â you waved your hands, cutting her off as the telltale syllables of your exâs names sounded, âDonât even mention him right now,â
âSorry,â Youngji sighed, âBut you know what - I have to tell Hanbin about this before you change your mind,â
Before you could even say anything in response, Youngji was bolting off towards your housemate and you couldnât help but sigh before poking at the bit of cake left on your plate. There was only a bit of frosting left so youâd decided to walk it over to the trash in the kitchen before stopping to watch the beer pong tournament.
Taerae was, in fact, as good as he said he was as you watched him knock ball after ball into the cups, earning a chorus of cheers from his friends. There was only so much enjoyment in the game while being sober though - courtesy of your dentist appointment tomorrow morning -Â so youâd decided to call it a night. The main part of the party was already over at this point and you were exhausted, body already looking forward to the warm embrace of your cotton sheets. You sent a quick text to Hanbin, letting him know you were turning in before heading down the hall to your room, only to stop in front of the door as you noticed that, unlike earlier, it was no longer fully closed and instead was open a few inches from the frame.
âWhat the hell,â You groaned as you pushed the door open and prayed that your bed was intact.
Two things came to mind as your room came into view
Thank God your bed was intact
Why was the pretty gym boy sitting on it?
You stood frozen for a moment, simply staring at the boy and taking in the way his soft eyes found yours. With him so close, you were noticing how his hair fell just above his shoulders in soft waves. Youâd never noticed that before since his hair was always tied back when you saw him at the gym. His cheeks were dusted a light pink color - likely from having some drinks earlier. You noticed the way his lips looked so soft and how his brows furrowed as you continued to stare and you were sure someone couldnât get much prettier until he had to go and ruin everything by opening his mouth.
âCan I help you?â He raised a brow, the smallest of smirks lighting up his expression, likely catching how you were basically gawking at him, âThis room is kind of occupied right nowâ
Now that shook all those lovey dovey crush thoughts right out of your head.
âWhat?â You blinked before gesturing towards the door where Hanbinâs sign was still hung, âYouâre not even supposed to be in here,â
The boy let out a breathy laugh, âYouâre not either,â
âThis is my room dickhead,â You scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest as the boyâs brows shot up. He glanced around the room, seeming to finally catch on to the fact that your face was in almost all the photos that hung on the wall.Â
âWell canât you come back a bit later?â He shamelessly asked, attention turning back to you as he leaned back against your bed in an action that only irritated you more.
âAnd why the hel-â Before you could even finish your sentence, the sound of retching filled the air and had both of you snapping your head towards your bathroom.Â
âYouâre joking,â Your eyes met the boyâs again before you were storming towards the bathroom, swinging the door open to reveal a girl -the same one he had on his arm earlier- barfing everywhere except for in the toilet. The smell hit you instantly and you slapped a hand to your nose, trying to block it out.
âWhat the fuck?!â You screamed in disgust, gagging as you closed the door, unable to look at the scene without wanting to barf yourself. You took a step back, bumping into something, only to find that the pretty (now infuriating) boy had followed behind you. He had a similar expression as you at first -likely having caught the scene in the bathroom- but as his eyes caught yours, he was back to his cool guy act.
âSheâs justâŠâ His lips twitched in an awkward smile, âNot feeling very well,â
You deadpanned at his words, close to seeing red because all you wanted to do was go to bed but now someone was vandalizing your bathroom with their stomach contents.Â
This was why you didnât want a party at your house.
âWho,â You took a deep breath as your hands clenched in fists, âinvited you,â
âUh..Sohee,â The boy replied, brows scrunching as he wondered why that was even relevant right now. He didnât expect you to grab his arm and tug him along to the living room, grip tight. Your eyes scanned the area, landing on Sohee in an instant. Heâd moved from his earlier spot to join Hanbinâs group.
Perfect, you could give them all a piece of your mind.
Hanbin was the first to notice your figure approaching, eyes widening as he caught sight of the boy you were dragging along.
âWhatâs going on here?â He asked playfully, clearly not catching your anger as he eyed your hand on the boyâs arm.
âWhatâs going on here,â You gave Hanbin a sickly sweet smile that immediately had his expression falling. The only time you looked at him like that was when you were really pissed off, âis that Sohee invited this guy to our house and his girlfriend is filling my bathtub and floors with pukeâÂ
There was silence for a beat as everyone turned their attention to the pretty boy whose ears were tinged a deep shade of red.
Sohee was the one to break the atmosphere, simply groaning as he ran a hand down his face.
âWonbin what the fuck,â
â
It was a week later and you swore you could still smell the vomit in your bathroom. Even after Sohee and Wonbin had cleaned up after Wonbinâs girlfriend and after you had deep cleaned the next day, you swore the smell still lingered. Every time you caught a whiff of it, you wanted to do nothing more than to give Wonbin a kick to the shin. Youâd had the pleasure of not seeing him at the gym for the last few sessions youâd gone to but it seemed this morning would be the end of your lucky streak. You shouldâve known today wasnât going to be a great day with the way the smell in your bathroom seemed to somehow be stronger. It shouldnât have been physically possible for that to even happen but alas there you were at 6 in the morning, ready to pull your hair out over it.Â
Youâd checked every corner of the bathroom, trying to figure out where it was coming from but with no luck. Your only option was to give up and head to the gym, making a mental note to clean your bathroom again later.Â
And so, with a sour mood, you showed up to the gym - a scowl present on your face as you made your way to the treadmill for some cardio. Youâd hoped that the endorphins from running might lighten up your mood but, of course, before you could even start your workout, youâd somehow crossed paths with the reason for your turmoil. At first you hadnât even realized youâd gotten on the treadmill right next to Wonbin, his newly bleached blond hair successfully disguising him. It was only once you had started into a slow jog that youâd noticed that the person next to you was sneaking glances your way. One look his way and your feet were mistepping with surprise as a gasp left your lips. Before you could stumble and embarrass yourself in front of the whole gym, you pulled the safety key and caught yourself. Your heart beat with the quick rush of adrenaline, hand coming to rest against your chest before you looked back up at Wonbin, who had also stopped his own treadmill. His hands were frozen, outstretched as if he was about to help you from your almost-fall and his eyes were scanning over you in caution.
âWhat the hell are you doing over here?â You frowned, standing up straighter as a breath escaped your lungs. Wonbinâs brows furrowed at the question before he fixed his own posture.
âIâm working out?â He raised a brow, gesturing to the machine before glancing back at you.
âYou never use the treadmill,â Your voice was accusatory, causing Wonbin to scoff.
âMaybe I wanted to run today and-â His words cut off abruptly, lips frozen in a part as his brows pulled together in thought. You watched as he took in a sharp breath before a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. He leaned forward against the rails of the treadmill, head tilting to the side as his eyes stared into yours.
âHow do you know I never use the treadmill?â His voice came out in a low drawl and as you registered his words, you knew you had made a mistake. Your face was instantly warm, eyes widening into saucers and lips parting with a shaky intake of breath. Wonbin watched with quiet confidence as you realized you were caught but rather than give him a response to his question, your body jerked to face your treadmill. You inserted the safety key and turned the machine on with almost robotic movements, bringing the speed up to a quick walk as you tried your best to now ignore the man next to you. A light laugh - that you hate to admit made your stomach flip - left his lips as he turned back to his own machine, matching its speed to yours.
âYou can just tell me youâve checked me out in here before,â He hummed, looking over to see how your lips pressed into a thin line at the comment and how your cheeks burned a bright pink color. Your reaction only made him want to push at your buttons some more, âWere you actually glad to see me in your bed at that party then?â
Your eyes flitted his way as your body stayed facing forward but Wonbin caught the frown that cemented onto your face.
âMy bathroom still smells like your girlfriendâs vomit,â You mumbled loud enough for Wonbin to hear and that was enough for his own pink tint to cover his face.
âSheâs not my girlfriend,â He cleared his throat, recovering from your retort quickly.
âWhat, so, just a random girl you let puke in my bathroom?â You braved a glance his way, annoyance clear in your tone.
âMhhm, more like a situationship,â He sheepishly spoke, âthat did not end well,â
âDid she puke in your bathroom too?â You raised a brow and for some reason that pulled a laugh out of him.
âGod no,â He rolled his shoulders back, âYours was enough for me to lose interest,â
âWhat a gentleman,â You rolled your eyes with a scoff.
âYou have quite an attitude for someone that knows where I usually work out in the gym,â He shot back, leaning his upper body so he was more in your line of sight âSo how many times have you actually checked me out?â
You tried to come up with a retort to his question but all you could come up with was, âShut up,â which only made Wonbin laugh again.Â
âCome on sweetheart,â Your breath stuttered at the sudden pet name and you hated how easily that happened, âYou can tell me,â
âThe only thing Iâm telling you is how you annoy me every time I walk into my room even though you arenât there,â You shook your head, trying to focus your attention on the treadmill but as Wonbin continued to speak, you didnât think that was going to happen.
âSo you think about me often,â You could practically hear the smirk through his voice.
âYeah,â You huffed, annoyed with how his teasing was actually getting to you, âBecause my bathroom smells like vomit Wonbin,â
Wonbinâs breath caught at your use of his name. He liked the way it sounded rolling off your lips, even if your tone wasnât the most pleasant, and he found himself thinking heâd like to hear it more.Â
âOkay,â He mused, âthen let me come over and help you clean up again,â
âWhat,â
It was like your brain was short circuiting in that moment as you pressed the stop button on the treadmill, not trusting yourself to not fall.Â
âWhat?â He raised a brow as he stopped his treadmill, turning to face you, âYou have a problem and Iâm offering you my services,â
âYouâre the cause of that problem,â You shook your head, bringing a hand to your temple.
âAnd I could be the solution too,â He grinned and as his eyes twinkled with mischief, you knew you were going to hate whatever he said next.
âYou have full permission to check me out during the process too,â
You deadpanned at his words but Wonbin knew they had an effect on you as your face turned an even deeper shade of red.
âYou are so annoying,â You grumbled as your hands came to rest on the rail of the treadmill that stood in front of you and your eyes continued to avoid looking directly at him. Wonbinâs smile only grew at your flustered state.Â
Were you this cute that night at the party?
âIâm not hearing a no,â He spoke again, voice a bit softer this time - enough to draw your eyes to his. He felt a jolt as you stared up at him, bottom lip pulling between your teeth as he basically watched the gears turning in your head.Â
On one hand, inviting Wonbin over sounded like a horrible idea but on the other hand, you really wanted that smell out of your bathroom and an extra set of hands would be nice.
âOkay,â You nodded, not giving yourself a chance to overthink the sudden proposition, âAre you free tomorrow at 3?â
âOf courseâ Wonbin drawled before sending a wink your way, âItâs a date,â
You swore your entire body was on fire with the way he was looking at you and before you could embarrass yourself again (and get caught following the way his pretty blonde strands framed the sides of his face) , you were mumbling a quick goodbye to Wonbin, barely catching him asking for your number as you left. The only response you gave him was to ask Sohee as you made a beeline for the exit, cutting your workout for the day short.Â
You just knew Hanbin was going to love hearing about this later.
â
It was just your luck that Sohee happened to be over at your house that day. Before you could even set your things down, he and Hanbin were basically bouncing in anticipation, asking you why Wonbin wanted your number out of the blue. Your explanation did nothing to quell their excitement.
âWait, wait, wait,â Hanbin ran a hand through his hair from where he sat next to Sohee on the sofa while you paced in the living room in front of them, âYour gym crush was Wonbin?âÂ
You nodded silently as he and Sohee let the information sink in.
âAnd heâs coming over tomorrow to help you clean upâŠafter his ex-situationship,â Sohee added, cupping his hands in front of his face.
You nodded again, continuing to pace as the situation really settled down on you.
âAnd he said itâs a date,â Hanbin barely held back a giggle at that comment and you stopped your pacing to give him an exasperated stare.
âThatâs what he said but Iâm pretty sure he was just fucking with me,â You threw your hands up, âHow can cleaning up a bathroom be considered a date. This canât even be a date, mind you, because I hate him,â
âYet you have been checking him out at the gym for weeks and invited him over,â Sohee nodded, pursing his lips together to hide his smile.
âSohee this is like 75% your fault,â You groaned, bringing your hands to your head.
âHey,â Sohee raised his hands up, âI invited him to the party. You invited him to your room tomorrow night,â
âBathroom,â You corrected, sending a glare his way, âI invited him to clean my bathroom - God, that sounds stupid to even say out loud,â
âHey,â Hanbinâs voice chimed in, adding a soft edge to the conversation, âDonât stress out over this. Just make the guy clean your bathroom and then go on about your day. It doesnât have to be a whole thing,â
âHanbin,â You shook your head with a whine, âIf he acts the way he did today at the gym then it will for sure become a thing. Heâs a huge flirt and I am easily affected,â
âYeah, Wonbin is pretty good at that,â Sohee agreed, making you groan again at your predicament, âBut I mean it sounds like heâs into you,â
âDoubt it,â You let yourself sink to the ground, laying down on your back, âDidnât he just get out of that situationship,â
âYeah but I think he had been meaning to end it with her for a while. She was not a very nice person,â Sohee shook his head with a sigh, âEven Shotaro didnât like her and Shotaro likes everyone,â
âWho is that?â You raised your head to look over at the boys again.
âJust one of the guys from my apartment building. Thereâs actually 7 of us and Wonbin is one of them. Anton, Sunghan, Sungchan and I are in one apartment and then Wonbin, Eunseok, and Shotaro live next door,â
âOkay, wait,â You sat up with a huff as Sohee rambled on about his living situation, âHow is it that you never brought Wonbin over before. You two have brought almost half the school over here at some point,â
Hanbin and Sohee both looked at each other before looking back your way with a shrug.
âHonestly I have no idea,â Soheeâs brows furrowed, âIâm pretty sure even Eunseok and Shotaro were here during the whole Gunwook and Taki fiasco though but you were preoccupied that night,â
âYeah,â Hanbin snorted at the memory, âPreoccupied with almost killing those two,â
âI canât remember why Wonbin didnât come that night,â Sohee hummed, âIâm pretty sure I invited him,â
âMaybe he was flirting with some other poor girl,â You muttered before letting yourself fall back against the ground again, earning a small laugh from Hanbin.
He called out your name softly, only earning a groan in response, âItâs okay. He canât be all that bad if heâs friends with a lot of our friends,â
âYeah, heâs a pretty decent guy once you get to know himâ Sohee chimed in.
âWhatever,â You sighed, resigning yourself to the insane scenario youâd set yourself up for, âWhen you send him my number, tell him to bring the cleaning supplies please,âÂ
Tomorrow was going to be a pain.
