I do like how House of the Dragon has one plot line every year that I am just so unexpectedly fascinated by I can’t look away from
Season 1: Everything going on with Alicent to be honest. I still think about “you imbecile” sometimes
Season 2: Daemon’s ayahuasca retreat in the middle of a war
Season 3: Criston Cole suffering through the plot of Platoon while everyone else has pretty much forgotten the previously mentioned war

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.
Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.

Went on another manga binge last week because summer has always put me in the mood for comics. Demon Slayer and Witch Hat Atelier both continue to be amazing, and I’m one volume away from being caught up with DanDaDan, which is actually a little devastating because that is one of my two favorites right now.
Outside of my book bingo picks I made it through the next two installments of Murderbot Diaries. I want to continue the series but my mind needs a bit of a break after inhaling the three novellas. Looking at the rest of the summer, I have one fairly large (to me at least) sci-fi book I want to finish, but other than that I’m looking forward to some light reads and more comic books.
Gonna out myself as a Love & Deepspace player because I have to say that is the craziest shit I have ever seen a dev do, and I’ve been a die hard Bethesda fan since high school…
I didn’t even care about the new guy, this is basically tamagotchi to me and Xavier and Zayne are very lucky this isn’t tamagotchi for how often I open the app to check on them, but damn that was an ice cold response to the criticisms all the serious players had. Truly the Watergate of the otome game world.

God this is the funniest show on television
I went on sort of a sci-fi bender this month so I’ve got three books to log real quick.
First I picked up William Gibson’s Neuromancer intending it to be used as my sci-fi pick for the challenge. I did enjoy this book, but I think I got more out of its general ambience and vibe than I did from its plot or characters. I think other authors have just grabbed my attention better with similar stories, though I get why this particular book is so popular. I would be interested in completing the trilogy at some point.
Neuromancer reminded me a lot of Blade Runner so I had to rewatch that (if you follow my movie blog you’ve seen my notes on it) and while I was watching one of my favorite movies of all time I thought “you know, I really should get around to checking the book out.” Since I’ve been challenging myself to read more in general the last year and a half, it felt like the right time. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick is an utterly fascinating story. I could probably write a full essay comparing and contrasting it to the movie. Plot wise they only have a thin thread in common, but thematically there’s a very deep rabbit hole to dive down there.
I got about halfway through the audiobook before realizing it actually counted as part of the challenge, since this book is almost exactly twice my age, give or take a year. Fascinating that a work half a century old can feel so painfully relevant today. Disappointing that Dick was wrong about hover cars in 2021…
My 3rd book of the batch was All Systems Red, the first in the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. This counts for the non Human MC square. This was a great follow up to Androids because while that story is largely about machines wanting to be treated equal to humans, this book is, to oversimplify it, about a machine begging to be treated equal to the toaster.
Now technically, I did read the Murderbot book last year but I got through it so fast that I had it and the show all jumbled together in my memory. I am glad that I took my time listening to the audiobook this time around. I feel as though it will stick with me better. I would say not remembering a book is valid reason for revisiting it for a reading challenge!
And with these I think I am exactly halfway through the challenge!
