Nose just above the counter, and fingers tapping excitedly against it, the boy watched the contraption, curious and fascinated. It appeared not to be moving from what he could see - this form was ever so tiny and he’d have to stand on his very tippy toes to be any taller, but he supposed the benefit was that more detail could be seen when the world was so much bigger.
He jumped at the sudden ding and his eyes widened with amusement and bewilderment. “They changed color!” he noted of the bread that had popped up. “How did it do that? Is the box magic?”
Magic was an amusing explanation for something Rick considered so mundane, but things must’ve been different for Cody. He could only imagine what something like this looked like to someone who’d only just began their life as a human. Essentially, this kid was an infant. Just...slightly bigger.
Brows perked, one higher than the other before Rick simply shrugged his shoulders. He then looked down at the boy through his glasses, grabbing the toast by the edges, quick to toss them on a plate so the heat didn’t overwhelm his fingertips. “Depends. Is it gonna disappoint you if I tell you it’s got nothing to do with magic?”
