Decided to actually introduce myself! My name is Jess, I'm 21, from the UK. Welcome to my blog!
Aside from (obviously) BJDs, my other hobbies include writing and drawing, but I'm very shy when it comes to sharing my art!
I've been mostly a lurker in the BJD hobby since 2018; though I owned a doll, I think I was a bit too young to really dig into the hobby, and ended up being overwhelmed by plans I didn't have the finances for, so I took a long break.
Recently, I fell back in love with dolls, and set out with new purpose to shell my OCs. I started this blog as an outlet for my dolls and to connect with other BJD lovers.
As I've just jumped back into the hobby, my collection is nowhere near complete! Here, you can watch the doll family grow and take shape.
I finally got everything to scan the last roll of film I shot. It was incredibly expired Fuji Superia 100 (RIP fuji films) so tricky ISO and unknown quality but with the help of a light meter, I got most shots to come out fine and the film had not aged too bad, either. Too bad I just played it safe with some random snaps because most doll photos on the roll were just not interesting lol (but I do like this one).
My Zombie Gal. Still no name figured out for her. All I know is that she's been zombie-ing around for a few hundred years at this point and has permanent resting-zombie-bitch-face (it's not her fault her facial muscles have deteriorated!)
At some point In the early 2000s she discovered Hime Gyaru and was obsessed. I just have not gotten around to the craftiness involved in making her full Gyaru'd out 😬 sorry Zombie Gal.
I think in my head, once my MaskCat Lisette arrives, the story will be that Zombie Gal and Lisette have a sort of...'have to be friends because they're the only two beings that have been alive for a few hundred years' thing going on. Lisette I imagine as a very trad Victorian style girl. She's seen it all but she's stuck on her roots and doesn't get modern fashions. Zombie Gal is the opposite and loves the modern era. Lisette probably gets onto Zombie Gal a lot for just walking around public half decayed all the time. But Zombie Gal happily tells her that everyone thinks its just part of her aesthetic! I imagine Zombie Gal has a bit of a social media following as the infamous "Zombie Gal". Everyone keeps asking for a sfx tutorial, so Zombie Gal practices on Lisette so she can fool everyone into actually believing she's not a real Zombie lol
Since there's only one doll left on my wishlist, I thought I'd cast the net once more. I know they're rare and tumblr isn't the hot spot for bjds anymore, but it never hurts to try.
I am looking for an Angel Region Present/Romantic Ren, the version of Ren with the half-closed eyes.
I don't care if it's the original release or the more recent Soom re-release, either is fine. I don't care if it's just the head. I don't care if it's damaged, yellowed, has a damaged faceup or no faceup. Honestly condition is not an issue so long as it's not been modded too much (it still has to have the original facial features).
I'm hesitant to put down an exact dollar amount here, but I am more than willing to pay fairly. I've been looking for this doll for almost two decades. If you have one you're willing to sell, or even any leads on one for sale, please please let me know!
I got a new outfit set in and played dress up with Dani and Zeke! It’s so cute to me that they have matching pants now TwT I also love how summery Dani’s outfit is. I wish I still lived close to a beach, I think it’d be such a cute location to do a photoshoot at for this fit. Maybe I’ll go out to a lake this summer, though!
Mostly making this to straighten my thoughts out, and for my own reference, but it would also be cool to hear what other folks are scheming this year.
I've returned to the hobby with a bit of a bang, and want to keep the momentum. Armance and Alekz are already well underway, but what on earth are either of them supposed to do without...
Wren!?
It's funny that Wren isn't already home, because he is the central character. I always thought he would be my first complete doll!
His head, Supia Dreaming Juah, is on the way, and I plan to test a hybrid with Armance's body (DollZone B60-005) to see how it looks, since I envision them with a similar build. I've heard Supia heads are on the smaller side though, so I'm anxious it might look strange on a male body.
My dream body for Wren would be a 60cm version of Dream Valley's 50cm B4-04 (this was my first ever BJD purchase, initially intended for a small Wren, however after my hiatus I decided it would be best to upsize him) but I think the DollZone one is as close as we can get.
So, if his head looks good on Armance's body, I'll go ahead and buy a B60-005 in white or peach skin.
I'm hoping he can be complete by the end of the year, but with wait times, you never know!
can't find a picture of a blank dreaming juah to save my life
as for the rest of them...
I really love getting ahead of myself when it comes to doll plans. I have rough plans for lots more characters, and not a single doll is complete yet. But, to me, it's important that everyone be visually cohesive, so planning out each character's sculpt in advance gives me time to mull them over, consider my options, and see if I really want a doll or if it's more of a love at first sight thing.
As of writing this post, I actually did make an impulse purchase, though - which brings me to:
Misha
Misha has always been a tough one. He's a bit of a brute, think Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski or Tom Hardy as Reggie Kray.
He looks almost exactly like Iplehouse Shane, and the SID body would have been perfect for him, but as my other dolls are more stylised, I realised I would never be able to see past the visual clash. So. I'm going to try and shell him as my recent impulse purchase, Switch Eunjo. I like his slightly cynical expression. Hopefully a faceup can make him a little more masculine.
I've also got the HD65 attractive body for him. It doesn't look quite as beefy as the SID, but I'm all for hybrids, so if it's not right, I don't mind experimenting a bit.
I've always wanted a Switch doll - in fact, Ajeong was the sculpt that introduced me to the hobby, so although Eunjo has been an impulse buy, it kind of feels like something I've been planning! Anyone know what wait times are like for Switch?
I was thinking, if I was a vampire with an unlimited amount of resources in income, how would I fill my days when I wasn’t busy luring humans to their deaths? I thought flower arranging sounded nice.
So here’s August with his plants. He appreciates that they thrive in the sunlight - especially since his time in the sun is greatly limited (though he does get some, thanks to some handy magical jewelry he came by about fifty years ago).
(It will be a couple weeks until he has his own clothes apart from his full set. American Girl Doll Josefina really came thru tho).
