enough of these “sasuke doesnt belong here” and “scar murdered winry’s parents” bitches
Scar woke up in a military base surrounded by the people enacting a genocide on his people. He had every reason to fear for his life. And zero reason to assume he wasnt going to be executed. And while I know this is how the story frames things, to act like Winry’s parents are not guilty of the Ishvalan genocide because they were medics and not soldiers ignores that the Amestris Military wouldnt be able to carry out that genocide if no one was taking care of its wounded soldiers. That FMA gives more grace to those who ultimately were a part of the system which led to the Ishvalan genocide than a survivor of it is a flaw of FMA, as is it treating any of Scar’s retaliation against Amestris as comparable to what Amestris did. Winry losing her parents isnt comparable to Scar losing his people and country. The moral equivocation of their pain and grief is a flaw of FMA, and Scar killing members of the military enacting genocide on his people should not be described as murder. You can maybe describe his mercy killing Nina that way, but that was a situation with no right answer. Its not like the Amestris government would have take good care of her.
Sasuke probably killed less people than Scar, and ALL of them were soldiers. He killed Orochimaru, who doesnt even stay dea, he killed Danzo, who ordered the genocide of his clan, and he killed some samurai who were protecting Danzo. He never kills another person after killing Danzo. Not one. nNless your counting white zetsus, but Sasuke is far from the only one to kill white zetsus. And him killing Danzo fixed nearly everyone’s problem. He was a problem for all of the villages and the rest of the leaf village, and Sasuke killing him fixed that problem. Danzo’s death is uncomplicatedly a good thing.
Sasuke watched the genocide of his clan (and i do mean watched because Itachi used the sharingan to make him see it multiple times), was given no emotional support from the village and was still made to be a child soldier, and later found out that same village ordered that genocide. Maybe you’re focusing in hard on the time he said to Obito that he plans to kill everyone in the Leaf, but not only does he never do that (again, the only person from the leaf he kills is Danzo) when he does get back to the leaf, he doesnt kill anyone, and instead uses the edo tensei to bring back the first four hokage to hear what they have to say about the village and what it has become. This leads to his next goal, which is to destroy the village system which turns everyone into disposable weapons by making himself into the enemy of the whole world, because the only time all of the great 5 villages actually worked together was when they had a common enemy in Madara, so he thinks thats the only way they will work together.
There are only really two things Sasuke does that are really any kind of bad. Trying to capture Killer B for the Akatsuki, and stabbing Karin to kill Danzo. Thats not why most of you think he doenst belong here, because most of you dont even know who those characters are. And with Karin, Kishimoto only wrote that in because there was nothing else that would make Sasuke killing Danzo wrong. It literally fixed everyone’s problems. Kishomoto couldnt both paint Sasuke as a crazy dangerous criminal AND have his “criminal” actions be something that benefits everyone, so he wrote in Danzo using Karin as a shield and hostage so that Sasuke killing Danzo wouldnt be an uncomplicatedly good, completely justifiable thing.
Maybe OP was exaggerating by saying “nothing wrong,” but at a certain point you have to ask yourself why so many stories portray the anger survivors of genocide this way, because its not just these two. And why do fans of those stories never question it. Why do people who do question that framing get painted as idiots who cant read?
I generally dont even like posts like these. I dont think these characters need to “do nothing wrong for the way their stories frame them and the way fans engage with them to be an issue.
