Happy Pride Month to ALL of the campers!
The Camp Counselors would like to take a moment and wish all of our campers a very happy pride month. No matter who you are, what orientation you fall under- if you fall under any at all, and no matter what life you want. Keep. Being. You. Pride month isn't just about orientation and gender identity- it's about growth and understanding, learning about yourself and others, and experiencing what life truly means.
Thank you for being here. And thank you for being true to yourself.
This Weeks News is Brought to You By: Billie Ng (Demeter Cabin), Nico Di Angelo (Hades Cabin), and Pollux (Dionysus Cabin)
Camp Pride celebrations are happening all throughout the month! The Iris Cabin is hosting free henna, face painting, and tie-dye shirt making events in their cabin every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11am to 6pm! (I'll also be hanging out there, with refreshments. Lemonade and kool-aids.)
The Apollo Cabin is hosting Camp Pride karaoke sessions, every Saturday night this month, from 8pm to midnight! The harpies are aware, and will not attack you for being late to returning to your cabins. (until 1am. Then you're cooked.) (Unless you're a Hades kid. They know our sleep schedule is a bit... messed up.)
The Dining Pavilion will be full of different snacks and treats for the month. This is to help keep you all energized and stable for camp activities as well as festivities! (Thanks, Mr. Dad) (I feel like this was slighted towards me?) (Will's gonna be happy about that)
The Demeter Cabin will be giving away bouquets and flower crowns of camper-chosen flowers throughout the month! They just ask to treat them well, and to let them know in advance! (Please, we need time to grow those flowers. At least a day or two in advance.)
This Week's Camp-Wide event is a large color-blasting obstacle course, hosted by the Iris and Ares cabins! (Shocked that they're working together?) (The Iris Cabin said the color blasting would make it more dangerous. Ares Cabin was instantly interested.) (I mean, paint and color dust in your face is dangerous)
The Ares Kid that was put on workout restriction has healed entirely, and is now on full return!
Two new campers joined us! One was claimed by Hecate, and the other by Zeus! Welcome aboard!
The two unclaimed campers that joined us last week have been claimed! They were both claimed by Nike! Congrats!
Three friendly faces have come to camp for a visit! If you see Hazel Levesque, Frank Zhang, or Lavinia Asimov, make sure to welcome them with open arms! (It's nice to see Hazel and Frank again after so long) (Lavinia can totally stay with us at the Demeter cabin. She seems cool)
The Athena Cabin won the 2v2 three-legged combat tournament! Max Becker and Kyla Croitoru aced the final match against Hecate's Sana Ekstrom and Tanka Jahari! (Why does that name sound so familiar...)
This week's game is a color-blast obstacle course! Weave your way through obstacles and get blasted with bright and bold colors while doing so! (This sounds... kinda fun?) (It IS fun)
The Volleyball Tournament starts on Friday. The first teams to play will be the "Wild Drakes" vs. "Sunny Salamanders", followed by "Bloody Boars" and "Lethal Lions", followed finally by the "Hungry Hawks" and "Bold Brashers" (Rooting for Hungry Hawks. Two Demeter kids on that team? Yeah, they'll destroy it!)
The Pegasus Racing Tournament begins on Thursday. Schedule is posted at the Arena, the Big House, the Dining Pavilion, and the Stables. (Poseidon cabin is actually not competing this time around, right?) (Nope, they won last time, so they'll be mediating and refereeing!)
"Know Your Enemy: Drakons" hosted by the Nemesis Cabin, Wednesday Morning at the Big House.
"Breaking Down the Great Prophecy" hosted by the Apollo Cabin, Wednesday Afternoon at the Amphitheater. (For those of us that lived it, I think we get a pass, right?) (Isn't there like a million great prophecies?) (Yeah, which one is being broken down)
"Olympian Jeopardy" hosted by the Dionysus Cabin, Wednesday Evening at the Amphitheater. (This one is fun, I promise. Kitkat rewards for the highest three scorers)
"Night-Time Battle Maze" hosted by the Hecate Cabin, Wednesday Night in the Woods. (I'm actually a part of this. Good luck)
"Power & Influence in Ancient Greece" hosted by the Aphrodite Cabin, Thursday Morning at the Cabin Green. (I kinda overheard them talking over this one, and it's actually really well researched)
"DIY Workshop: Axes" hosted by the Hephaestus Cabin, Thursday Afternoon at the Forges.
"Ancient Greek Masterclass" hosted by the Athena Cabin, Thursday Evening at the Big House.
"Murder Mystery Night" hosted by the Hades Cabin, Thursday Night at the Hades Cabin. (Bring a snack, and be ready. It's a very immersive game)
"Quests That Went Horribly Wrong" hosted by the Nike Cabin, Friday Morning at the Big House. (A little drama, mixed with tragedy...)
"History of War Games" hosted by the Ares Cabin, Friday Afternoon at the Arena.
"Faux-Lympus: Achilles and Patroclus" hosted by the Apollo and Dionysus Cabins, Friday Evening at the Amphitheater. (Pulling all the stops out for Pride Month) (More like starting it off with a bang)
"Astronomy for Dummies" hosted by the Urania and Hecate Cabins, Friday Night at the Beach.
"Olympian Nature" hosted by the camp satyrs, Saturday Morning in the Woods. (Grover is hosting? Neat)
"Airbrush Shirts and Hats" hosted by the Iris Cabin, Saturday Afternoon at the Arts and Crafts Building. (I'm definitely going to this. Gives me a way to freshen up the wardrobe)
"Mythical or Not Real?" hosted by the Athena Cabin, Saturday Evening at the Big House.
"Camp Karaoke" hosted by the Apollo Cabin, Saturday Night at the Amphitheater. (They banned "Tequila" what a shame)
"Pegasus Riding Class" hosted by the Poseidon Cabin, Sunday Morning at the Stables.
"Life Outside of Camp" hosted by Guest Speakers (Older, Graduated Campers), Sunday Afternoon at the Amphitheater.
"Home Cooking: Yellow Curry" hosted by the Demeter Cabin, Sunday Evening at the Big House. (With and without meat, by the way. For those that don't eat meat)
"Nature Spirits and Dryad Language" hosted by the Dryads, Monday Morning in the Woods. (You better attend this) (I'll be there!)
"Demigod Powers and Limits" hosted by the Athena and Hecate Cabins, Monday Afternoon at the Arena. (Important to know your limitations)
"Water Navigation" hosted by the Poseidon Cabin, Monday Evening at the Beach.
"Lantern Run" hosted by the Hermes Cabin, Monday Night in the Woods. (Running through a woodland obstacle course at night, with nothing but a small lantern in your hands?) (Sounds atrocious)
"Archery Training: Moving Targets" hosted by the Apollo Cabin, Tuesday Morning at the Archery Range. (If anyone sees Will there, keep a good two-hundred food distance from him)
"Camp Defense Guide" hosted by the Hephaestus and Athena Cabins, Tuesday Afternoon at the Amphitheater.
"Medicinal Herbs and Wild Remedies" hosted by the Demeter Cabin, Tuesday Evening at the Demeter Cabin.
"Mythomagic: Learn and Play" hosted by the Hermes Cabin, Tuesday Evening at the Big House.
The camp forge seems to keep going out. People are suspecting it's a Zeus kid, while others are suspecting a Hermes kid. (I suspect it's a poorly lit fire)
Somehow, Reese's Cups and Three Musketeers have managed to weasel into the camp black market. The Hermes Cabin is VERY quiet about it. (Though we aren't mad about it. I missed candy)
Random woven trinkets have been appearing on cabin doorsteps. The current theory is the Hecate Cabin, but there's a theory popping up its the Athena Cabin playing a prank. (I can see it being the Athena cabin pulling a fast one on everyone) (It's so unusual, it's the only option)
An Aphrodite camper was caught sneaking to the beach with a Hypnos camper.
A Terpsichore camper was seen talking to the new Zeus camper. Could it be friendship, or... maybe a crush?
WEEKLY QUESTION AND FUN FACT:
Last Week's Question: Which Cabin would survive the longest on a camp-wide reality TV show?
Answers: "Hermes Cabin- jack of all trades, master of none" - Hephaestus Camper. "Aphrodite Cabin. Charmspeak. Easy choice." - Tyche Camper.
This Week's Question: "If you could create one holiday, what would it be for, and what date would it fall on?"
FUN FACT: Brought to you by Navier Piedmont (Hephaestus Cabin)
Ancient and Old Europeans believed that using the bones of great warriors, relatives, or strong beasts would bring them power and strength in combat. They would take the bones, and melt it into the metal of their weaponry to "carry their spirits." This worked, actually- just not in the way they thought. The iron and the carbon and calcium blended together into carbon steel, making it much, MUCH stronger than regular iron.
