been thinking about VSMP as a D&D party for the last two hours, probably a hundred other smarter people than me have done this but here are my takes in no particular order. Yes they are all in one party because I said so. (some of these I will admit I put more thought into than others, if no race is mentioned it's because nothing stood out to me sorry)
Legundo - regular ol' human, multiclassed between cleric and artificer. Cleric for obvious doctor reasons (specifically peace domain, his whole thing about Oakhurst vs those who wish to harm it you know the drill. (I used a very helpful guide on all the classes and subclasses that I will link at the end of this for those unfamiliar with the subclasses)), artificer because of the lab brewing potions all that. I think during his time in the army he was originally a battle smith but changed course when he left (doesn't do battle smith things anymore, he gets to have done a lot of stuff because he's old but he can't have everything.)
Owen - tiefling, for two reasons. One, tieflings are hated for things they can't control. Owen was hated for things he couldn't control, having a chronic condition. double the hatred, yippee. Two, tieflings are resistant to fire damage. Louis was burned at the stake (which did still happen in this for tragic backstory reasons. maybe in another universe he's alive, but not this one). Owen, who isn't hurt much by fire, not realizing how easily Louis could burn until he's already gone. make that guy who isn't hurt by fire be absolutely terrified of fire. go v!owen, be the most tragic guy to ever exist. as for class, barbarian. he do be raging over Louis's death. I was kinda torn between him being a beast or a berserker, because beast gives claws and bite which is very vampire, but I think berserker works better because he's very much about the murder or it all (maybe i should do alignments...).
Scott - elf, of course, because none of us are over empires and we never will be. high elf because he's that sassy noble bitch, enough said. very v!scott. for class though, I think either archfey warlock or shadow magic sorcerer would work well. Scott likes being powerful but studying to be a wizard? he'd hate that. training to fight physically is far too sweaty and nature is too icky, so of course the only option is to make a pact with a higher being. archfey works very well for a warlock Scott Goldsmith because it's about being charming and scary at the same time, you get the point. but it would be very convenient if he could just be born with the power he wants already, hence sorcerer. shadow magic also works well because it kinda gives vampire so yeah (none of these guys will be vampires because that would be too simple i fear). really depends on if you want him to have been minorly inconvenienced prior to the party being a thing or not. warlock scott had to go out of his way to get fun powers, sorcerer scott just kinda had them. fun times
Pyro - half high elf, unfortunately did not help him at all. definitely a wizard, specifically evocation school because setting things on fire. (I'm very funny guys trust me) unfortunately they got kicked out of wizard school or whatever and disowned by his family because Cezlaw drowned, but his body wasn't in the river and it didn't look like he'd fallen in so they thought Pyro had summoned water in his lungs or something. doesn't matter if that's what actually happened or if it was on purpose or not, that's what the people saw so they had to go.
Pearl - plain human, ranger with hunter subclass. the answer was right there. out in the woods all the time = missing major events, and she literally hunts werewolves! what do you want from me. and shes a badass so shush (I haven't watched pearl's pov yet so if I'm missing something super important tell me to watch her pov but pls don't spoil)
Drift - great old one warlock. Yes this is entirely because of that one fic (If I'm undead and you're magical, then who's driving the bus? on ao3) no I will not be taking criticism. honestly this is just Drift from who's driving, go read that fic!!
Ren - again, plain ol' human. I was originally thinking fighter, but after realizing that there is no subclass that fits his character well (again as far as I know, i haven't watched Ren's pov either) I think way of the drunken master monk is better. I couldn't give him a spellcaster class (or a subclass that uses magic) because he literally died hating the supernatural, but he's a very normal guy so champion or battlemaster wouldn't really make sense since I'm trying to stay pretty close to canon backstories. drunken master works because it's not spells or super fancy fighter stuff. the tavern having been a thing is really what made me think drunken master tbh.
M - order of scribes wizard. man's an author, what else can I say? he put the Twilight dustjacket over his spellbook. i have no idea what he is but if he's a human i know he'd be SO annoyed about it. like why can't he be something cooler? i don't know if actual vampires would find Twilight offensive or funny which is basically canon (vampires do exist in D&D, but nobody in the party is one)
Abolish - half drow, because he's a half-vampire at the end of vsmp. there were too many humans in this party ok. I think either oath of redemption paladin or warlock of the undying would work for Abolish. he doesn't try to fight the vampires immediately, he actually gives Owen a chance to redeem himself, for most of the series he avoids conflict and tries to protect people which is very redemption paladin. I think undying warlock would also be fun because it's again very vampire. it makes me think of Morcant (unsure if I want him to be a vampire in this or some other kind of immortal) seeing kid Abolish after his parents died and is just like. "is anyone going to give this child magic" and didn't wait for an answer. making Abolish a warlock does lean more for organization Abolish than Abolish in Oakhurst, so it depends which you like more ig.
Avid - artificer, he made potions and gear for Elle of course he's an artificer. Avid and Legs would both be alchemist subclass and I just KNOW they will beef over this. they will be insufferable about eachother messing up potions or stealing ingredients or something and everyone else is so done. Avid is also still cursed in this, that's why he started adventuring.
Shelby - normal human (not another one of you!!), kinda sad that she couldn't be something cooler but their character development is about realizing that they're still very cool and awesome as a human or smth. college of glamour bard, because she's universally loved and also gets to do magic. I had to give them bard because they're not a fighter but she's also not a healer. Originally she wanted to be a wizard but they didn't get into wizard school :( :(
Cleo - definitely undead. If you've seen that video of making life series characters into a D&D party (i think that's what it's called, go watch it it's good), that's basically what I imagine this Cleo as being. there isn't an equivalent in normal D&D as far as I'm aware, so we gotta homebrew. for their class, I'm thinking circle of spores druid but less reverent if that makes sense. like she gets the decay must exist for life nature magic stuff, but not in a reject society way. idk if any of this makes sense but eh. their mother was not a vampire in this btw, she was a fae. they were taught about fae rules, how to avoid getting your name taken and whatnot, but nobody told them fae rules don't apply to most other creatures (basically the code (i haven't watched cleo's pov, see instructions from pearl's section))
Martyn - wild magic sorcerer. he did not know this for the longest time, was actually trying to learn magic as a wizard. thought that things randomly bursting into flames or accidentally teleporting himself off the balcony was a normal consequence of spellcasting. this is why his dad left him in the woods
Apo - cleric, life domain. she still has her phobia of blood, but by healing people immediately after injury with magic they don't have to see as much blood. also the phobia is getting more manageable over time, exposure or something.
why are you still here. what. link to the website with the subclasses: https://www.cheekykokako.com/games/dungeons-and-dragons-classes/
ok thank you for listening to my nonsense bye
